Too many players that play the same way.
Small speedy, skilled. sounds like the same problem as the Leafs.

A .912 save percentage on a 6th round pick probably isn't going to cut it. He is having a good season obviously but he isn't jumping out enough to really force any hands into giving him a shot.
I respect your opinion and am clearly biased to an extent however I feel the exact opposite. Rodrigue and Jones play on much better teams this year and Émond has started virtually every game this season usually facing north of 30 shots a game. He has been stellar.

alrightyyy then. I did the Big Boys roster yesterday. Time for the WJC edition.

Lafreniere Veleno Lavoir
Krebs Heyton Cozens (if Arizona wants to play stupid and not release Heyton, then McMichael moves up to 2nd. line C)*
Pelletier McMichael Thomas
Foote FoudyDellandrea
Byfield (or moves into the 3rd. center spot if Heyton is unavailable)

and the 13F comes down to Rees or Tracey.

Bowen Dobson (it would be beyond stupid for NYI to keep this guy in the pressbox)
Smith J-Bernard-Docker
Harley Addison
Barron

not really a huge fan of McIsaac, but that's probably the direction HC goes if he can tie his skates up and pull his sweater down over his head. 19 year old and returning player and all.

Rodigue or Ellis as #1 or 2.
Maier. They don't often take a 3rd. goalie, but it's more common to take a 3rd. if the tournament is in Europe. and since Maier is in the running for #1 next year is my choice.

It all come down to coaching/goaltending and the 18 year olds. I gotta say, the 2000 born players *the 19 year olds are underperforming pretty much across the board.

that's my take.

ideas or opposing opinions are welcomed.

cheers.

Poulin May be a dark horse
Noel if he can pick up his game
Schneider on defence instead of Barron
Good team so far
Once again goaltending is wide open I would add

Well thought out.

I can't say I agree with everything. But well thought out. I can't think of a reason why they'd keep Hofer off of this team. To me he's the best u20 Canadian goalie right now. How a team could invite Maier and not Hofer is beyond insane, even if you think Maier is the answer next year, which I don't think so.

Instead of replying like a cringey moron with "ok boomer" (see: above) I'll say this... it depends what the other rosters might be leaning towards. From what I gather looking at locks on other teams, I don't necessarily think strength and size will be required to really value it above skill. There's not a Kostin to control. If the best of the best are skilled and smaller (and I don't think this team is that small, there is size there) I don't think it's the worst thing in this years tournament. I mean, who are some of the big boys that could run Canada if Canada did go small? The only one I can think of is Beecher.

You realize the guy who most people on here are putting as the #1 has a .913 sv% right? Now I don't think Rodrigue should be the starter, nor should Emond, but I can see Emond getting the invite and winning a job. He's played well and he did get a camp invite in the summer so he's on their radar. He's a streaky goalie and the Huskies have given him no favours this year.

I’m an Emond fan, but Hockey Canada didn’t even invite him to the Canada Russia series. If you are to look at past precedent, then the odds of him getting a camp invite after being snubbed from this series are essentially zero.

I can think of a couple.

1. Hasn't played 1 minute between the pipes in a Team Canada sweater anywhere at any level. not even a camp invite as far as I can tell.

2. The way Hockey Canada operates. If there's one position HC tends to coddle to the extreme is the goaltender. and the people who work at HC are very much bureaucratic careerists who would rather not go out on a limb with a player like Hofer and risk the inevitable backlash should things go sideways. The 'what were they thinking' media backlash. If we lose with the players who have a Hockey Canada resume and NHL draft pedigree, then not really that big of a deal. disappointing, sure, but not devastating. have a stinker of a tournament with a hunch goalie who's just having a good year in the DUB...media and fans may not be all that forgiving. There are tournament ticket packages to sell and Canadian hockey fans to gouge for next year's tournament in Edmonton/Red Deer.

Does he deserve a camp invite? I'd bring him in. I doubt he gets one however.

Great name, though. Hofer. Hall of Famer.

With his play recently, it's going to be hard to NOT go with Olivier Rodrigue as the No.1 goalie.

The rest seems like a huge dogfight. Hunter Jones has upped his game from where I had him in the last few weeks. Emond, Hofer, Daws...

I'm not too big on Nolan Maier right now, but you could maybe say him.

If you actually look at the WJC rosters since the lockout, they’re actually not scared to take players that don’t have previous experience with Hockey Canada. 11 goalies in the last 14 WJC and they cut returning goalie Leland Irving. If there’s one position that I don’t think they’re afraid to deviate from it’s goalie, especially with the lack of true blue chip goalie prospects Canada has kicked out over this time span.

Colton Point
Connor Ingram
Samuel Montembeault
Mackenzie Blackwood
Jake Paterson
Jordan Binnington
Scott Wedgewood
Martin Jones
Chet Pickard
Dustin Tokarski
Steve Mason

Also don't think Mark Hunter as GM is going to go in for all the typical HC politics. He's a legitimate candidate for an NHL GM spot and success in this tournament will help pad his resume. His brother doesn't strike me as a yes man either.

Impressive list. now are we sure that some or several of these players had Zero exposure to Hockey Canada POE programs, including camp invites, coming up through the years at different levels? which was the point I was making about Hofer. no games and no camp invites. as far as I can tell.

too many names that reach back a little bit in time and I would need to research that a bit. but of the top of my head Point played in WJAC before he played U20.

If a large number of these names had zero history with Hockey Canada, then obviously I owe the bureaucrats at HC an apology. :)

I'm off to enjoy U.S. Thanksgiving in SoCal. should be a travel nightmare.

The WJAC barely counts, being invited to that event isn’t anywhere near the same as their premier events. Majority of those guys will never even sniff being a legitimate draft candidate, let alone suit up in the NHL. That event is an afterthought.

We must also not forget that it’s a lot easier to not get invited to these summer camps as a goalie then it is as a skater. If you don’t get invited as a forward/defence then you’re like let’s say the 25th and 15th “best” defence but if you’re not invited as a goalie, you’re likely the 5th “best”. It may not be that Hockey Canada doesn’t like you or know who you are, it’s just that there isn’t enough net to share between all these guys in a camp.
