McIsaac is apparently coming back on the 30th. That could give him around 5 games before camp. I will be curious to see how he does, as I'm not a big fan.

McIsaac to return next Saturday, confirmed by his junior team’s GM. I think he’ll be a great add back there. Not going to look too mich into his first 3 games, he will need to get back into the swing of things.

If none of the NHL guys are back and the injured guys aren’t ready to go, this is the lineup I’d send:

Lafreniere- Veleno- Lavoie
Poulin- McMichael- Thomas
Foudy- Dellandrea- Cozens
Foote- Groulx- Noel
Byfield

Smith- Bernard-Docker
Byram- Addison
Bahl- Woo
Harley

Rodrigue
Jones
Hofer

Now if the NHL guys are released and the injured guys are back up to speed, this is the lineup I’d send:

Lafreniere- Hayton- Dach
Krebs- Veleno- Thomas
Foudy- McMichael- Cozens
Poulin- Groulx- Dellandrea
Byfield

Smith- Dobson
Byram- Bernard-Docker
McIsaac- Woo
Harley

Rodrigue
Jones
Hofer

I assume the reality of the situation is that this team falls somewhere in between the two. It’s not a one guy in, one guy our off the bottom of the lineup scenario either. If guys get released, or it isn’t for me. I think you have to look at which guys get released, what role they can play and what you expect them to bring to the lineup/team over the course of a tournament.

I think both of your line ups are fairly close to what happens. Realistically I see Hayton getting released and not Dach, very unsure on Dobson.

At forward, I think they roll with Lafreniere Veleno and a third winger as their top line because thats what they used all summer camp and they played really well together, even if Hayton is back. Krebs u18 was great though I have no idea what to think about his Achilles injury, but hes versatile and has a good international resume. I think he makes the team. Not sure on Groulx's foot speed or discipline either but not sure on anyone else I would put in that spot if it came down to that being whose all available. Byfield might start as the 13th forward because thats pretty classic team Canada but he works his way far up the line up by the end of the tournament.

On D, I see Ty Smith, Dobson, and McIsaac as locks. I really dont know what to think about Byram. He was a high pick and really touted last year but by all acounts didnt havea great camp with the Avs and has been slow out of the gate this season. I havent actually seen him this year but just what I've read. I'm not going to call a guy on D, one year post draft a lock. I'm also not sure I would play McIsaac and Woo on the same pairing. It would be the most physical pairing in the tournament but I would prefer to spread that out a bit, and could see international refs start calling them for hitting too hard if theyre both dishing it out on the same shift. I dont like Addison either so hopefully he isnt anywhere near this team.

I could see him making it. Question is, who do you leave off? Cozens is performing similarly, is a bit younger and might be a better fit for the big ice. Noel if he continues to underperform perhaps, or he could take Fortier’s 13th forward spot.

If Dach stays in the NHL, which is looking more and more likely, Lavoie will be a near lock.

Do you think Andree gets an invite to camp? He has better numbers over the last 2 years compared to all of the other goalies that played in the Super Series and he looked pretty good vs Russia in Kitchener.

Canada tends to like size - Andree is good, but one of the smallest goalies around.

Hofer is 6 foot 5
Rodrigue is 6 foot 1 but extremely mobile
Hunter Jones is 6 foot 4
Emond is 6 foot 3

Andree is 5 foot 10. If he isn't much better than his competition, I can't see it. DiPietro was small too but had better numbers.

Also, sometimes the politics involved mean NHL prospects are more likely to be brought along than not.

I think you gotta consider tracey. He's leading the WHL in points/game and really came out of no where the same way mcmichael did last season. A very upward trajectory as he won rookie of the Year last year and is just under 2 point per game this year.

The more '01 born players on the team the better. I had him as one of my 13 Fs before the season even started. outside of the obvious 3 or 4 of the 2000 born players, it is a rather unimpressive collection of players.

too bad we're going to miss out on another '01 player in Dach. but that's the way it goes. there are a few other teams in the same boat.

I'm surprised no love on here for Pelletier. I ultimately don't think he'll be there based on the type of players HC usually takes, but if I were picking the team he would definitely be on the short list given everything he brings

Here are camp invite list prediction:

Lafreniere Veleno Lavoie (replacing Dach)
McMichael Byfield Noel (chemistry during 2 games)
Perfetti Thomas Tomasino (great chemistry during 2 games)

Byram Bernard-Docker (Byram demonstrated excellent offense)
Bahl Harley
Smith Barron (Smith is better in the third pair, demonstrated less offensive talent)

As a Avs fan if Newhook doesn't make the team I am cancelling Christmas.

I do. Byram is great too but Hunter probably goes Merk
I find that incredibly hard to believe. If Hunter falls under the same pit falls as all the other bad coaches....that have failed previously then that would be pretty damn disappointing. There just isn't an avenue onto this team where Merkley earns the spot in my opinion.
