If non of the NHL guys get released I'd go with

Lafreniere-Veleno-Cozens
Foote-Krebs-Thomas
Poulin-McMichael-Lavoie
Groulx-Dellandrea-Noel
Byfield

Smith-Korczak
Byram-Harley
McIsaac-Woo
Addison

Jones
Hofer
Rodrigue

If all of Dach, Hayton and Dobson get released they'd replace Groulx, Noel and Addison bumping Foote, Thomas and Korczak down the lineup

After last night I think Foote is getting very close to having a spot locked up. I believe scoring might be a problem for this team so that fact he is a goal scorer bodes well for him. Also Hockey Canada likely wants him locked in going forward. My only issue with him is his skating might get exposed on the bigger ice.

Because of 1 game, he's worthy? This is his biggest issue. He'll show up 1 game, and then you wouldn't even know he was playing in the game. I'd take a hard pass.

JBD is a lock on defence in my opinion. Can’t pass on 19 year old 1st rounders who produce in the NCAA.

4-5 games before camp opens? That's not enough time in my book to get into form. McIassac isn't that good or vital. I'd take a pass if I were Hunter.

Its not that late. It was a shoulder injury and hes been practicing since the start of the season. He'll be in shape and will have a month worth of games to get back into form. They need help on D and guys who have been there before. hes a lock if he comes back November 30th. Maybe if it was a knee injury or something where he hasnt been skating that would be pushing it, but a full month of games plus practicing since September isnt a late return at all

If none of the NHL guys are back and the injured guys aren’t ready to go, this is the lineup I’d send:

Lafreniere- Veleno- Lavoie
Poulin- McMichael- Thomas
Foudy- Dellandrea- Cozens
Foote- Groulx- Noel
Byfield

Smith- Bernard-Docker
Byram- Addison
Bahl- Woo
Harley

Rodrigue
Jones
Hofer

Now if the NHL guys are released and the injured guys are back up to speed, this is the lineup I’d send:

Lafreniere- Hayton- Dach
Krebs- Veleno- Thomas
Foudy- McMichael- Cozens
Poulin- Groulx- Dellandrea
Byfield

Smith- Dobson
Byram- Bernard-Docker
McIsaac- Woo
Harley

Rodrigue
Jones
Hofer

I assume the reality of the situation is that this team falls somewhere in between the two. It’s not a one guy in, one guy our off the bottom of the lineup scenario either. If guys get released, or it isn’t for me. I think you have to look at which guys get released, what role they can play and what you expect them to bring to the lineup/team over the course of a tournament.

If Krebs plays today, he has a shot at probably 9 or 10 games prior to the WJC camp. Hopefully his Achilles is healed up and he's ready to go heading into the camp.

Based on CHL/Russia Challenge, it is fairly easy to say that team OHL has the most talents who can match up Team Russia Selects.

Lafreniere Veleno Lavoie (replacing Dach)
McMichael Byfield Noel (chemistry during 2 games)
Perfetti Thomas Tomasino (great chemistry during 2 games)
Foudy Dellaandrea Cozens (checking line)

Last forward = let the 3 days camp decides

Byram Bernard-Docker (Byram demonstrated excellent offense)
Bahl Harley
Smith Barron (Smith is better in the third pair, demonstrated less offensive talent)
McIsaac ( if he can play 5 games ) If he does not get back in time = take Merkley (1), Addison (2), Chisholm (3)

Here are camp invite list prediction:

Lafreniere Veleno Lavoie (replacing Dach)
McMichael Byfield Noel (chemistry during 2 games)
Perfetti Thomas Tomasino (great chemistry during 2 games)
Foudy Dellaandrea Cozens (checking line)
Foote Groulx Mercer
Rees

Byram Bernard-Docker (Byram demonstrated excellent offense)
Bahl Harley
Smith Barron (Smith is better in the third pair, demonstrated less offensive talent)
McIsaac Merkley
Chisholm Addison
Tychonick Drysdale

Daws, Nico
Rodrigue, Olivier
Hofer, Joel
Hunter Jones

Hayton and Dach going to be released? I don't think Dach is coming how bout Hayton?

played and registered an assist. I hope he makes it. highly skilled, character guy. fantastic u18 tournament.

As for Dach, I guess it should be foregone conclusion now. He stays in Chicago. maybe we can get to see him in a Team Canada game in May at the Worlds. although I'm still more inclined to take Lafreniere at this point as the token 18 year old rookie 14th. forward sort of deal. but if Dach continues to bump up his TOI and manages to work his way into the ROY conversation, then my opinion may change. He's getting shit done with limited minutes. good to see.

I don't know that I've ever watched Rodrigue play, but I know that Jones can be a rock solid goalie. Is there a chance that Rodrigue takes the #1 out of camp? I figured it'd be Jones from the get go

There is just no chance that Byfield is the 13th forward. He is probably the best forward they have on the team if not the second best.

Unfortunately talent doesn’t really have much to do with where Hockey Canada chooses to play him. This is just where I have him started, he can obviously play his way up the lineup but I don’t think, if he makes the team, that they’re going to hand him a top 6 role out of the gate.

Either one for me, I go back and forth on who my starter would be. I don’t think there is a clear cut favourite, so I think you go with the hot hand and whoever performs better in camp.

That's good about Krebs. If he gets up to speed then that's only a good thing. Dach certainly seems gone. I'm starting to think that Dobson may be released for the team, which would be a significant add. I'm not expecting Hayton.

Went with an older, more experienced lineup. Took handedness into account, so all LDs and LWs shoot left, all RDs and RWs shoot right.

Lafreniere - Hayton - Thomas
Foudy - Veleno - Dach
Foote - Dellandrea - Noel
Groulx - McBain - Cozens
(Fortier)

Smith - Bernard-Docker
McIsaac - Addison
Byram - Woo
(Bahl)

Lafreniere and Dach are the only 18 year olds in prominent roles, Dach being an NHLer and Lafreniere a returning player. No 17 year olds on the team, which is the way Hockey Canada likes it. McIsaac will get in 5 or 6 games before WJC camp and has been skating for over 2 months already, he should be firing on all cylinders assuming no setbacks. McBain who has made good strides is having himself a solid season, and his 1.5 years of NCAA experience is better than what 95% of the team can boast. Was slightly optimistic here by estimating that only one of the three NHLers won’t get sent down (Dobson in this case).

Lavoie?

Noel is having a less than stellar season for his 4th year. Not sure why these guys get a pass. shouldn’t he be absolutely dominant?

Huh? Lafreniere will be on the first line and expected to be one of the best players.

Watching some archived games of Hofer tonight, and I think he's gotta be the favourite to steal the cage. He moves so well for a big goalie, and he's playing amazing. I certainly wouldn't have pinned him as a potential starter for team Canada last February/March when he couldn't stop anything. Tremendous progress on this kid.

I wasn't referring to this WJC this Christmas, but to the senior mens tournament in May. (this year in Switzerland) If he's not busy with the Memorial Cup.

Hofer has had an amazing season so far, I'm not against the idea. I do think Canada will end up taking the wrong goalies but that's just me.

Do you think Andree gets an invite to camp? He has better numbers over the last 2 years compared to all of the other goalies that played in the Super Series and he looked pretty good vs Russia in Kitchener.

Lafreniere-Hayton-McMichael
Newhook-Veleno-Krebs
Poulin-Dellandrea-Thomas
Foudy-Byfield-Noel

Smith - Dobson
Byram - JBD
Bahl - Woo
Drysdale

Jones
Rodrigue

A lot of great centers. I think you have to move a couple to the wing and try to get your best players together. Newhook for sure makes the team. Krebs will be there for sure if healthy. I think Hayton and Dobson will both be back. about 5 or 6 guys not listed that could work their way onto the team. I think Byfield will earn a bottom 6 role and play a regular shift. Could be used similar to how Laf was last year. I like Drydale to make the team as the 7th D

Even though Newhook and McBain have pretty much the same numbers at BC, I have watched a few games and McBain seems to be ahead in overall 200 foot play. Both are leaps ahead of Boldy but that’s another story. He (McBain) kills penalties, on on the second pp with Newhook, plays physical and is playing left wing, but is a natural center.
Newhook can fly, but McBain has no problem skating as was a negative when drafted. I like Newhook, but you can’t have all the same players. You have to build a team which includes sting board play and cycles. McBain Has an edge and looks like he could turn into a TOM WILSON type of player. I like Fortier ahead of Newhook for that type of player.
