Rumor: 2020-21 Trade Rumours and FA Part VIII: Intra-Playoff Edition?

I'd probably agree. Except for Byram's ELC for the next two seasons, which is the timeframe in which the Avs have to go all-in, is invaluable. Every million counts.

The ELC is definitely a factor, but so is skill level.

I'd make the argument Girard will be a better player than Byram for the next two years as well.

The Avs cap is tricky to manage but if they cut ties with some of the more ugly contracts it can definitely be managed.

Ideally one of Donskoi or Graves are selected in the ED. Then you dump Compher and buyout EJ.

If it has to be done, move Donskoi for a draft pick as well.

If push came to shove and we had the chance to get Jones I'd move Girard as well, but I'd offer Byram before Girard as IMO that's much more of an "All in" for the next two years sort of play. Keeping Byram over Girard is more of a long term strategy since Girard is certainly better now and may always be better tbh.

Also I don't think we would have to add anything to either of Byram or Girard in a Jones deal.

1 for 1 would be more then fair. Given the situation Columbus is in with Jones basically wanting out, in either trade they are getting back an impact Top 4 level D right away, one being signed long term on a ridiculously fantastic contract, the other being 21 years old and lots of room to continue growing in Columbus as part of the new core on that team.

Guys with less than 2 seasons under their belt? I'd say there are a number of them. Dach wouldn't be in my top 10 of guys with less than 100 games in the NHL.

No, only prospects with a brighter future than Dach, give me your list.

Guys who could get Jones.

If he ends up a slightly more consistent RyJo, I think that is a good outcome. It isn't a franchise level center, but a guy you'd ideally have as your 2 who can play at a 1 level when it matters. The initial disappointment might be strong being a step down from the Kopitar/Getzlaf hype, but still a damn good player.

That'd be a huge disappointment for a 3rd overall pick.

I'd rather move Byram for an extended Jones then Girard.

Toews - Makar
Girard - Jones

That's it. That is what peak Defense looks like. It doesn't get better.

I'm the exact opposite of this. A Byram - Jones pairing could rival Toews - Makar for the 'top pairing' role in a year or two. I like Girard, I just think Byram is going to be better in areas the Avs need more.

Not really fair since Dach has 82 games under his belt, but I'll play:

Zegras, Drysdale, Byram, Seider, Boldy, Knight, Perfetti, Lundell, Byfield, Tomasino, and Harley. From this upcoming draft, Beniers, Johnson, Power, and Hughes.

That'd be a huge disappointment for a 3rd overall pick.

Oh most certainly, but he's still a good player.

They could make it work. It would involve a lot of moving parts and trimming all of the fat, but it could definitely be done.

If we move Girard the Left side gets a lot weaker next year. Arguably what should be our most all in year.

So, go for Jones and hope Kadri has a good contract year and maybe Newhook takes over 2C at some point next season?

If Kadri could be moved for a pick (cap) would people trade Newhook for Rhino as the basis of a deal?

It sure sounds like this Eichel situation is going to be resolved in the next month. LeBrun thinks the Sabres want to trade him before the draft to get another high pick. Either way, he's done in Buffalo this offseason.

What else will the Ducks add to the third overall pick to get it done? I assume it'll have to be some pretty good additional pieces on top of the pick. Friedman mentioned them as a team today.

Personally I'd be doing much, much more. If it were me I would truly be all the f*** in next year.

Jones for Byram or Girard.

Then our 1st++ at the draft for Couturier. Couturier would be a 1 year rental.

Something like 1st + Kaut + Graves.

Defense next year would look like:

Toews - Makar
G/Byram - Jones
MacDonald - Timmins

Forwards would look like:

Landy - Mack - Mikko
Bura - Couturier - ???
Newhook - Kadri - Nichushkin
LOC - Jost - Ranta

Grubauer
Francouz
Johanson

Quick math would say that lineup is roughly ~75-77M depending on what the contracts of Makar, Landy, and Grubs ultimately look like. If Girard is the one traded instead of Byram it would be more like ~72M and we'd actually have quite a bit of space to keep Saad around for example.

I'd be assuming here that Donskoi is selected in the ED and Compher is dumped.

That would be my kind of all in move. A top tier 2C and a Top tier RHD.

Maaaaaaan if the Sabres are only interested in obtaining another high pick for Eichel then that limits their decision on his to just a few teams, and Colorado is not one of those teams.

Thank you for playing :thumbu:

Just like I said there are not a lot of really good prospects that could land Jones.

And not many teams that would give their best prospect to do so.

I want Elvis.

I want Elvis.

I dont know if I do.

He'd be cheaper than Grubauer next year but especially if he puts up good numbers he would be easily asking for 6-8M on his next deal the following year and I dont know if I like him that much.

I have some reservations about Gruby but especially if we can get him signed for ~5-5.5M I think he's about as good an option as we'll get.

Now if he is expecting something in the 6+ range I'd definitely say f*** that and let's go another route. Elvis wouldn't be cheap to acquire though.

I'm guessing it just says the Avs are considering moving on from Landeskog and spending that money elsewhere based on the photo attached.

Also most likely just very wishful thinking since Boston fans really want Landy.

I'm thinking Friedman mentioning Kadri's future in Colorado in 31 Thoughts is just him wondering about the obvious like everyone else is but it's still a little interesting that he'd put it out there. There's a lot of work to be done if they really are considering moving on from him because they already need help at center with him currently in the mix.

It's from Jimmy Murphy...it's completely worthless.

Could Colorado cut ties with captain Gabriel Landeskog? OTR is hearing big rumblings out of Colorado that could shake up that franchise in several ways.

Has this clown been speaking to the same construction worker that Dater gets his rumors from?

Byram is observably far more talented than Girard and will be a significantly better more complete player. But I guess that doesn't matter for his fans who care more about championing their boy at all costs than improving the team. It's only a matter of time before Byram takes over Girard's role.

Look dude, I like Bryam as much as the next guy, but he hasn’t played an entire season yet, let alone the type of season Girard just had. Does he have the tools? Sure. But let’s pump the brakes a bit.

I'm just saying compared to Girard he will be. I didn't make any claims he was going to be a top 5 dman or anything.
