I think it’d be a mistake to let Landeskog hit the market. Both sides want to get a deal done and I’ll be very surprised if it’s not signed prior to the start of free agency. You don’t let players like Landeskog leave when you’re trying to win.

Yeah but he's a loser and shitty captain? We can't have that on our team.

I'm assuming that source wasn't from the Hawks. Why not just draft Byram if you're going to even consider trading Dach that soon for Jones?

Yeah, I have to agree. I would wonder if the Hawks are swinging back and forth between trying to compete again immediately (a mistake IMO) or rebuilding for the future.

I’m the biggest Jones fan there is but he isn’t returning Kirby Dach lol. With an extension he’s certainly worth more than Kirby Dach but even still won’t return that much since he’s obviously going to be selective over where he’s signing.

Their biggest need was always defense. I'm still pretty surprised they past on Byram for a center. They're going to spend a long time trying to find a guy they can bet on becoming their #1D. I don't see them giving up Dach for Jones or Hamilton and without him I really don't see them having the pieces to land a fish that big.

I don't think I've ever heard, what is your analysis on Dach? I know it hard to tell with him missing almost the whole season...

Too inconsistent and lazy with meh skating (that won't improve as he bulks to 220-225) to make it as a top center full time. If he does make it as a center, he's a RyJo sort where you're constantly frustrated with him. Which if you can get it to click, you have a top line center... but the clicking is a huge question and when those questions exist, they tend to be answered with the one you don't want. I think long-term he settles in as a good, but frustrating 2C. Personally, I'd swap him to wing and try to utilize his frame, hands, and vision on the wall. I think he can be a near PPG wing with some 2 way chops that you love. At center he's going to frustrate majorly.

Not false, but he is as good of a prospect as there is, who is a better prospect playing in the NHL ? Not many for sure

Guys with less than 2 seasons under their belt? I'd say there are a number of them. Dach wouldn't be in my top 10 of guys with less than 100 games in the NHL.

I've not kept up with a lot of the conversations around here lately, but if Jones would negotiate an extension here...the Avs really should be willing to throw a lot out there to get him IMO. Just build the defense around Makar on one pairing and him on the other...would suck to lose Girard in the process since he would pretty much be Jones' ideal partner, but I'd still comfortably move Girard+(+) if Jones comes extended.

I thought Dach in the playoff bubble last season looked tremendous against Leon Draisaitl, but the first name I thought of when I watched him was Ryan Johansen.

I do think he'll be more consistent than Johansen, though. But those playoffs showed me he can step his game up when it matters, at least early on in his career.

If he ends up a slightly more consistent RyJo, I think that is a good outcome. It isn't a franchise level center, but a guy you'd ideally have as your 2 who can play at a 1 level when it matters. The initial disappointment might be strong being a step down from the Kopitar/Getzlaf hype, but still a damn good player.

I'd rather move Byram for an extended Jones then Girard.

Toews - Makar
Girard - Jones

That's it. That is what peak Defense looks like. It doesn't get better.

I'd probably agree. Except for Byram's ELC for the next two seasons, which is the timeframe in which the Avs have to go all-in, is invaluable. Every million counts.

So dump EJ, Compher, Dong, and Graves.

The Avs' cap situation isn't impossibile if they just trim the fat and contain themselves from grabbing a Cole/Calvert/Dong this summer.
