I’m a big fan of girard but we have lots of that style. Jones is ten times better defensively and built for the playoffs. We don’t need toews girard and byram. 4 playoffs in a row Girard is manhandled in his own end.

Girard wasn’t great, but he’s still a valuable piece to this team. For all the hate he’s gotten, he wasn’t even one of the 5 worst Avs for the playoffs. Why is Burakovsky not getting the same treatment, or Landeskog? Both were worse. Tyson Jost, for all the love he’s gotten, got absolutely hammered in the possession metrics against Vegas.

I wouldn’t even entertain moving Girard unless it was absolutely necessary. The Avs are almost certainly moving forward with their current D core, minus maybe Graves. Nemeth won’t be re-signed.

Lol no. Burakovsky is so important to this club

I wouldn’t expose Burky but I would expose Jost. I doubt the Avs agree with me though.

Burakovsky is extremely talented but they need to improve that second line if they can. In both Burky and Kadri you have two very good, but extremely enigmatic players. I think they could flip him for an improvement but it’s likely a package deal involving a pick and/or prospect.

The only thing they need to improve about the 2nd line is getting someone more reliable than Nazem Kadri in the lineup. I've been pumping the Eichel train, that's because I'm ****ing greedy.

But the 2nd line both last season and this season has been fine. He's scored at a 66 point pace the last two seasons and had 17 points in 15 games last playoffs. It's not his fault he was stuck playing with offensive black holes this playoff season. His underlying numbers even indicated he was on the verge of breaking that cold streak and getting extremely hot once again.

But agreed that they should expose Jost and preferably protect O'Connor. You can find a Tyson Jost type in free agency for bargain bin rates. He's an RFA this summer and I honestly wouldn't pay him a penny more than what he's currently making which is 875K

That is likely true, and a year from now we'll be questioning what went wrong. Again.

jones doesn’t command 10 mil anywhere... you see if he wants to play in Denver where he has emotional ties. 8 mil I would do, girard makes 5 and you buy out Johnson to save 4 and give it to Jones or give the money from the expansion pick.
If anyone just watched that Vegas series and is being honest with themselves then they’ll know we need to be built differently in the back. We wilted at the first sign of a hard forecheck and coughed up pucks that we had possession of multiple times.

this : replace / flip Girard to Vegas and Pietrangelo in Colorado and this becomes a very different series .

Blow it up…

When it comes to anything reported by Elliotte Friedman, take it to the bank. Elliotte said on “Hockey Night in Canada” Hot Stove last night that Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Seth Jones would “love” to be traded to either Colorado or Dallas. Jones has already informed the Blue Jackets that he is not interested in signing a long-term extension with Columbus. He has one year left on his contract.

Did he just take what Doug MacLean said on a podcast yesterday and attribute it to Friedman on HNIC or did I miss something?

Not sure why the D core is drawing fire.

Particularly from a long term outlook perspective. Nemeth, Graves, and Girard were the only ones that underperformed in the playoffs and two of them won’t be on the team next year.

Also… it would help if Bednar would actually play our other 4th overall draft choice. Which, hopefully next year, he will.

I’m not saying don’t tinker with things, but almost every team in the league would kill for this D core.

They are young, but they are not growing anymore.

Can't win in the playoffs with a small defense.

Most defenseman are just entering the league at these guys ages. Timmins in his rookie year, Makar is his sophomore year, and Byram is a rookie.

How do you figure they won’t improve??

Avs d core is fast and mobile but it's small. It makes it easier for a team like Vegas to forecheck, put pressure on that d core and create turnovers

Toews 6'1
Byram 6'1
Makar 5'11
Girard 5'10

At this point, I almost hope EJ retires and becomes part of the team staff in some manner. Guy can’t stay healthy and it seems every time he comes back he picks up an even worse injury.

EJ being so injury prone has cost the Avs dearly for two years, right in the middle of our contending window. Having six million a year on the sideline…can’t have that going forward.

Those guys are much better against the forecheck than the big defenceman on this team.
Nemeth, Graves were horrible, Girard was bad. Can't win when half of your blue line shits the bed.

I like Girard, he's very good when on his game, had a very good regular season, but if he's gonna keep getting exposed in the playoffs, changes need to be made

Nemeth and Graves should not be on this team anymore, and I would replace Girard with Jones

I think Jones has family connections to Colorado, so maybe that’s where these Jones rumours are coming from. Plus I imagine he sees a great opportunity to win a cup as well.

If Colorado wants him, Jones expressing interest should help because I believe he has a no trade clause.

I didn’t watch him much this year, but I know his underlying numbers are basically in the gutter. Can anyone who watched Jones a significant amount provide some context on that?

Product of his surroundings. He looked disengaged at the start of the year and really turned it up in the back half. He shoots, hits, blocks and is very smart. I was only a fantasy owner who loves to watch the players I own but I think Seth Jones would have a pietro type impact on Colorado, similar to what Vegas got, especially in the series against us.

the connection is his dad played for the nuggets and when Seth showed interest in hockey his dad reached out to Joe and Joe got him into hockey.
