At least Kaliyev and Vilardi are getting minutes. That’s all I got.
Great though, especially Kaliyev. It looked to me, from the little I saw, that he worked hard and was engaged. If he does that nightly then he will be a factor going forward.

I loved the goal, it came from driving the net and that’s great to see rather than him just trying to find soft areas to release his shot from. So many online experts like to imply that is all he does but that myth gets debunked in game 1. Kaliyev gets promoted from the bottom 3 to play with Vilardi and was out there late in key situations, which is all you can ask of him. Great to see him earn trust from TMaC quickly and it goes to show that if the guys do what is expected of them that they’ll play. Gründstrom had 15 minutes also, so the Vilardi line ends up as the de facto second line on the night and its great to see.

Result and performance were not great but there are certainly positives to cherry pick. As far as Arty goes, he’s had a great start but let’s not proclaim him the leagues next 50 goal scorer just yet, nor should we lose our minds when he has a garbage game next week and misses a sitter. Good performance from Petersen also.

Well done to Arty, proved me wrong. I was very low on him after the WJC due to his lack of effort in the defensive zone, but he was engaged tonight and couldn't fault his play.

They nearly have to bring up Bjornfoot for 5 games now just to bide some time before Roy comes back.

Disappointing to see how the system is being played this year. While last years team was horrible, when they played the system well they could dominate periods of play where the other team just couldnt get through the neutral zone and were struggling to even dump it in. Youve seen none of that this year, no standing up at the blue line, the other team just skates the puck in through a token defensive effort.

Kaliyev did what he’s paid to do. I don’t think his overall play jumped out at you, but the same could be said of Luc his entire career. Similar types of players, knows where to be and knows how to finish. The Kings need his goal-scoring in the lineup more than they need to develop some all-around game which will probably never come to fruition anyways. I do have faith in this GM and coach to properly develop this type of player than the previous ones did.
I agree we don’t need him to be ‘great’ defensively but he needs to round out his game to some degree. Him scoring 40 goals a year but causing 60 against helps nobody. That said, I don’t think his all-around game is that bad. He used to cheat defensively in the OHL but that’s how Hamilton used him. He’s working hard on his overall game which is what he needs to do and he will be fine.

So you were low on him after the WJC huh? Did you even watch? He was one of the reasons they won gold. The kid scores goals everywhere he goes, please stop trying to turn our skill players into grinders like Sutter liked to do.

This is the kind of game I think Turcotte would have excelled at, he has that constant energy, fights thru checks and constantly wins board battles which hopefully will get others at least engaging . And AK didn’t look as slow as advertised and was able to outmuscle a much bigger man on that goal, looked pretty impressive in easily the worst game the team played this year .....don’t understand a staged fight with no fansin the building

This was the first time in a long while that I watched all 3 periods of a Kings game. Looks like I havent really missed anything new. That powerplay hasn’t changed. Doughty really lost a step, and quite literally on that empty net play. Vilardi looked great. Arthur Kaliyev looked great in his first game, was hoping to see him laser one but the garbage goal was good too. Thought his game without the puck was good, guy was going into the corners getting himself in battles and was able to keep up physically.

I thought Amadio and Kaliyev were the 2 best forwards last night.

That's really sad when your 4C and a 19 year old playing his 1st career game are the top forwards.

Sure, but I've liked the process this season. This is a joke lineup. Vets mailed it in like they always do when it seems like it doesn't matter. I'm tired of that shit but nothing is surprising tonight and I'm not going to put much weight into it.

And I think last season was so long ago that it's forgotten how trash it was. It was brutal and very boring.
New slogan: Kings Hockey!...brutal and very boring.

Good to see TM being forthright and honest in his assessment, pretty much calling out all the more experienced forwards including the guys with good AHL experience. He’s clearly not very impressed and nor should he be. He pretty much said that Kaliyev and Vilardi are the only ones that can be considered kids and the rest have to be better prepared. So let’s hope there is a reaction.

Jesus did LA play like crap last night. Could not pass to save their lives.

I like fighting and MacD is winning me over, but that was stupid fight. I have questioned him fighting at wrong times before (see in Calgary vs Lucic). What was to gain by this fight? There is no crowd to get pumped up, you have two regular D out of the line up and it was clear going into this that LA's defensive depth (or lack there of) would be tested. So sitting out the first 5 seemed stupid to me. Love his fights but he needs to pick better spots. Obviously this game is not on him though.

I create a feed about Iafallo and he had his best game of the year in my eyes.

Jerseys looked good, like Kaliyev. Wagner needs to sit back down.

That game sucked to watch. Cal Norton Petersen was excellent and deserved a better effort in front of him. Good for Arty.
We can dissect this game until we're purple n gold in the face, but really it's a lot of what's pissed us off the last few years. Give us a better effort.

Stupid fight? It’s your rival let’s set the tone ASAP. Too bad the rest of the team didn’t show up. It’s exactly as Stoll said it was, Big Mac trying to get the team going for a game with their rivals and the team didn’t show up again.

I'm all for keeping fighting in the game but I understand the angle for removing staged fights off the face off. It's always seemed childish to me. A fight should be in the heat of the moment.

If you need that to get going against your rival I just can't understand it.

I get it, but the problem is that you are immediately disrupting your already disjointed defense pairings and risking losing another player on a busted knuckle or potential concussion while removing your only physical threat. It just happened in Minnesota, as soon as MacDermid had his staged fight and was off the ice, Minny started running everyone else. It wasn't smart, and it clearly didn't work - for the second time in a week.

Yeah but that’s not MacDermids fault. Doesn’t matter if it’s a fight at the start of the game or after a play like say Foligno ran Lizotte or whatever situation and then MacDermid fought him. That’s Blake’s fault. If your only physical presence is a defenseman you’re gonna be short on defensemen more often than not. Just another reason why this team could use another tough forward. So if Bennett really requested a trade from Calgary, Blake damn well better be making an offer.

Well, if he would have scored the 1-0 in the first minute i am sure the team would show up.

Those stupid fights make me want to ban fighting since it archieves nothing.
Let the other teams have the fighting guys, i prefer hockey skill.

That was just bad hockey.

Two bad teams.

Was something wrong with the ice? Guys on both teams following down and botching simple plays.

I was thinking the same. Especially on the lower end of the ice.
Players stumbling and pucks bouncing left and right.
My favorite was, i believe it was Doughty, skating straight then belly flopping and losing the puck.
The opponent picks up the puck rushing into our defense zone, stumbling as well, getting up and falling down a second time behind our goal.

The team should not need to be woken up 3 seconds in. Save that fight for when the team did not show up.

I always wonder with these opening faceoff tilts. Like the coaches must have planned it or at least given the green light to the players. The coaches put those guys out there who normally would not be taking the opening draw, so really my beef is not with MacD, he was just doing his job, my beef should be with the coaching staff.
Find another way to light a fire than removing a D from an already depleted group!!

At least if MacD is fighting, we aren't getting scored on seconds into the period like we did in the 2nd when the entire team forgot to pick up the controller after grabbing a soda

Youre right. They shouldn’t need it. But god imagine that game with no fight at the beginning. Maybe we get scored on ever quicker! The team didn’t show up from the get go, I’m not gonna fault the one player who did something to even try to get them going.
