I wouldn't mind seeing a Kyle Clifford on this roster. That's what we need. If the guys know there's a heavy weight to back them up, they'll be more aggressive. We desperately need a guy like that.

Not a heavyweight, but a player like Sam Bennett would add some of the grit and toughness the team is sorely lacking. He's pretty fearless, physical and stands up for his teammates. I've always liked his game even though he hasn't lived up to his draft potential. Wouldn't mind him on the Kings. Also at only 24yrs old, he fits in age wise with young group coming up.

Pagnotta and Bernstein listed Dahlin, Chychrun, and Werenski as LHD under 25 the Kings should target. Don’t see Dahlin happening...

Werenski has another year left on his $5M contract before becoming a RFA. He might make the most sense. Chychrun is signed long-term to a hell of contract. Then again, the Coyotes owners are penny pinching bozos, so he might be a possiblity.

Would be cool to see Chychrun playing for the Kings. First time in team history a dad and his kid played for the Kings?

He hasn't been AS good in the NHL but man Werenski looked like Nic Lidstrom fused with Erik Karlsson when he was finishing up in the AHL.

Chychrun would be an amazing get as well and would only happen if the Yotes just clown it up.

Would Brendan Lemieux from the Rangers be the type we need. Haven’t watched them this year but I remember he brought some grit in the past and is still young.

I’d love Chychrun but because Az is in our division I just can’t see that happening. I’ve never watched enough of Werenski to judge other than his stats and he’s usually got decent stats minus this season. And I’m with you, can’t see Buffalo giving up on Dahlin so quickly unless they think he’s a bust and try to get some value for him now before the league figures it out.

Blake has shown in the Toffoli and Martinez trades that he doesn't put much weight into the dislike of in division trades. If the Coyotes offer a fair price, Blake will make the trade. The only question is would the coyotes offer a fair price for an in division trade. It takes both to ignore that stigma.

No problem! Last spring I wanted Blake to go after UFA Brenden Dillon even though he was 30. More recently, Mattias Ekholm (supposedly being shopped and also 30). These guys are big strong mobile LHD's that are good enough for the top pair (w/DD). I give Mikey Anderson all the credit in the world for his play but he isn't big and strong enough for his role. Contrary to the conventional wisdom, defensemen don't die off at 30.

I have no idea what Blake is thinking when he's looking for a dynamic LHD under 25. Don't we have like 10 of them already? I want to see him start filling holes (where there is no one coming up) and make some gutsy trades like Deano. If he has to overpay then so be it (think Vish for Greene/Stoll). He has tons of assets. He needs to start being aggressive. I hope fear isn't holding him back from pulling the trigger.

DL isn’t running the team anymore, I don’t see current management looking to add that gritty veteran everyone in this thread is clamoring for.

Marty McSorley might be the Kings greatest enforcer of all time. Being a great enforcer doesn’t necessarily mean being the toughest or best fighter but the guy who did his job the best; protected his teammates, knew when to fight, kept opposing players clean, played the game within the game. Though, in fact, he also was one of the best fighters and toughest at the same time.

Grimson in his one year did the enforcer role pretty well also.

Over the years other “tough” players either were not good enough of a player to stick (Brennan, Flinn), or didn’t like the role (Belanger) or were just a bad fighter (Cowan, McKenna).

Nolan didn’t love fighting but was tough and a lefty that caught opposing fighters by surprise, Clifford and Westgarth were both tough but both had their bells rung (Clifford by Reaves, Brookbank and Westy by Brian McGrattan and Luke Gazdic) at certain times in their career. The combination of King, Nolan, Clifford, Greene, Mitchell, RR made the Kings as tough as having one McSorley. The problem is they don’t have McSorley or any of those other players. Just Kurtis MacDermid. Sad.

He's a truculent player for sure. But I think he's a guy the Rangers like as he insulates the younger kids on the roster.

Those of you who haven't seen the Bruins much, should watch Trent Frederic. He's another type of the player that fits the same type of make up we could use. Again, Bruins wouldn't deal him but, I like his game.

The key was that McSorley could skate well enough to play decent minutes as a defenseman AND fight. So far over four seasons, Kurtis MacDermid has not shown that he can do the first part. His first pass is not up to par, he's too slow, and positionally not good enough to make up for his other deficiencies. MacDermid as a good bottom-pairing D would help this team A LOT, but I'm skeptical that he'll get to that level.

Maybe Werenksi out of those three. No way Arizona moves Chychrun or Dahlin gets moved by Buffalo.

Didn’t McSorley once lead the league in plus/minus? I guess if you’re in the box so often, you’re not on the ice as much for so many goals against. But seriously, Marty actually got better and smarter as he got older and put up what you’d now consider to be top 3 dman numbers.

You don’t have dmen like that anymore. And speaking of Marty and some aggressive Kings hockey, here’s a fun game that took forever to conclude.
