2021 draft is weak too. I'd do this in a heartbeat without even thinking twice. Blue Jackets laugh as soon as Blake offers the package then hangs up on him. Kings want Dubois start with Vilardi or Turcotte plus. But I'd love PLD on this team.

Agreed...I know eventually the Kings will be able to make a deal for an under 25 year old star, due to cap issues another team is having, along with the Kings having young assets and cap space.
It will cost a blue chip prospect and a 2nd tier one and #1 pick. So be it. Get the young, budding star. That #1 pick, just may not be a lottery pick anyway.

All of these under 22 yr old Kings players / prospects cannot play for the Kings. Even a #1 pick, because if the Kings could get a young star, you do it. Lombardi got Richards and Carter
at the ages of 26 and 27 (I think) and this made all the difference. And the Lubo deal for Stoll and Greene helped change the culture and was a great 1 for 2 trade. As Kopi, Doughty and
Quick hit their strides, Lombardi struck and the rest was history.

I still think he’s our hidden gem if he can stay healthy

Not a dig on your post above but I'm wondering when the "if he can stay healthy" monicker will be removed from any conversation about GV? Like if he plays 56 games and 18-20 minutes a game this season?

I think a full season without the back acting up would ease a lot of peoples minds on him. I have always been high on him even when other weren't so I am rooting for the kid. He really impressed me once he got into the lineup last season.

8 months of Drew Doughty getting mad online at TSN not projecting him to make Team Canada and lifting weights for the first time in his life. love it - I actually cant wait for the season to start now

I think it depends on how veteran is defined. Muzzin became a vet while playing with Doughty. McNabb had no experience. Forbort had none. Maybe Doughty means a guy coming in from somewhere else, where he had already established himself.

Hutton?

Not to harp on Drew but that is a chicken shit excuse re: weight lifting.

Yes and no. The guy has played more hockey than anyone in the world for the last decade, and has 'unfortunately' stayed healthy, so most of the time, he was dealing with an extended season due to playoffs and/or tourneys. This is the first extended break he's had in his career. Even Anze today pointed out how guys he talked to had the lockout help extend their careers for a similar reason.

Like for the last couple of seasons yeah that's a horseshit excuse, but for his career as a whole, this is a guy who has barely had a month of 'offseason' year over year.

Its a pretty legit excuse, hes played 80+ games a year since forever. Hes going to be dam banged up at the end and during, you've goto give your body time to recover you can't just keep pushing sore muscles and joints with weights just because your not playing

Ok, yeah. Did they play a lot together? I honestly don't remember. It's been a while, and the Kings were mostly white noise last year. I remember Walker playing with Doughty, but only because you rarely, if ever, see two RHD as a pairing.

Although, Hutton was also a last minute replacement for Forbort. He was hardly brought in as part of any plan. Maatta was targeted, for lack of a better term. Or Doughty is just BSing. Or the tweet doesn't capture Doughty's full idea.

I was on the call. Doughty went through the partners he's had over the years and explained what he meant.

The weight lifting was a completely unrelated question to how his game has been over the last few years and how people view him as far as being an elite defender.

EDIT : This is a common thing I see and I wish I knew it when I was younger. Frequently the quote that appears in a tweet or an article is very far removed from the way it was answered and the context in which it was given.

lots of great quotes on Hoven’s twitter

Doughty also says that Maatta is his first “veteran” partner since Scuderi, which is uh not true lol. More importantly, he’s high on him as a partner

...the first time??

Imagine being in the league for as long as he has, and getting paid as much as he has that he's never lifted weights seriously in the NHL. Wow. That's embarrassing.

Read it again, first time hes used weights to get stronger, previously hes only used weights to maintain strength. And the reason is if you push heavy weights, you get sore, so you can't push heavy during season when youve got a game every second day. He's probably been sore since he was 18, he finally got a chance for his body to recover
