That full Vilardi interview: Gabe Vilardi on Faceoffs, Penalties, and FaceTime with Clifford

Some total gems:

"On the confidence coach Todd McLellan has shown in him thus far
In the last game, I was terrible at faceoffs in the first and second period, yet he kept throwing me out there. I appreciate it – no, I don’t appreciate it, I have to do better. He’s expecting me to win those draws and I have to do better. It’s nice. I want to win. I want to be on the the ice and I want to help the team win, in whatever way that is, whether it’s winning a faceoff or scoring goals."

"On the biggest difference between being a full-time NHL player compared to previous levels he’s played
I think practicing hard every day. In junior it’s completely different. You can go out there and — I don’t want to say screw around, but you can half-ass it almost and you’re still like the best player out there. Here, if you’re not working hard in practice, you’re wasting your time, you’re wasting your teammates time, and it’s not good for anyone. I think bringing it every day, that’s something I’m going to learn throughout this year and moving forward throughout my career. I have to come to the rink with a plan to get better every day and I try to do that and I have to keep doing that."

I'm a big Turcotte fan, but given Vikardi's contributions on the PK, and how he openly demands more of himself, I still think this is more evidence that Vilardi is at least the second-best prospect in the organization.

Turcotte is going to be the most valuable of the three centermen if the goal is contend. He is the coalescing factor that will shape a bunch of individuals into a team.

Everything Turcotte does is team oriented. Supporting coverages, board work and breakouts so those around him have more time and cleaner options to do their jobs. The zone exits and entries are crisp, controlled and done with purpose instead of the meandering, puzzled work we see out of the current group that far too often sees the puck carrier isolate himself from his teammates. And that most definitely includes Kopitar.

Then with possession, its quick, direct movements to get the puck to the most dangerous player while creating passing and shooting lanes as he heads straight to the net.

I like Vilardi very much, and yes he is more gifted with the puck, but he doesn't have the same approach to the game. Turcotte's style of game not only involves the next man, it requires him to think and react just as quickly and directly. It's a logical station to station game that promotes a team oriented attack, but it is done at an intense pace. It doesn't just impact his shifts, it sets the tone for the next as well.

It is very similar to the style of game Mike Richards played, and I think it is easy to miss until you learn how to see it. Toews is very similar, and look how the majority of fans still don't understand what made him so valuable.

I completely agree which is why it pissed me off when people said he had an average WJC. Like MFs, he set the tone and literally is one of the biggest factors why Zegras went off..
It wouldn't suprise me to see the Kings load up the top 6 with Kopi, Vilardi, Turcotte and evetually Byfield. We already have enormous propect depth to build up an amazing bottom 6.
Just a thought but while Byfield continue to learn and mature i'd love for him to play on Kopi's wing and Turcotte "could" center Vilardi.
Byfield - Kopitar - Xxxx
Xxxx - Turcotte - Vilardi
Kempe/Andersson/Lizotte/Madden/Fagemo/Wagner/Iafallo/JAD/Kupari/Thomas/Dudas
Left off Kaliyev as he will slot into the top 6, just not sure where
Plus a bunch of cap space to add vets if we want

have to watch closer for that

C-bus will need a similar-aged, cost controlled (at least a few years) top line roster forward to give up PLD. Not sure anybody fits that description in the Ducks current roster.

I just want someone to leak that Jarmo called Blake and he be like:”Nah, bro, we good”!

Still can't get over that Turcotte shift where he won battles in every zone before feeding Artie.

Kid is an absolute monster and he is going to piss people off, I love that he's kind of a spaz, super quick, super aggressive...as @bland puts it, "intense pace." Everything is on adrenaline.

More skilled Lizotte and I think we all love how Lizotte plays
