The problem with this is that I'm not sure what kind of return we can get for an almost done Carter even if we make a deal similar to the Foligno trade where we retain part of his salary almost to the point that it doesn't seem worth it for mid round pick and pay 25-50% of his salary for the next couple of years.

I am not sure he was providing much of value to the team. Addition by subtraction. Return will likely be not a lot.

He spent the first half of the year playing Alumni style hockey, but has been much, much better over the past few weeks. Still generates a ton of chances, still skates well, and should be a good fit.
