Any idea why Adam Bennett, Jason Herter, and Jason Marshall went 6, 8, and 9 in 1989?

Haha, kind of before my time. But looking at some of the names who went high in the draft from about 1988 to 2004 it's no wonder the game went to complete crap in the 90's and into 2000's.

Had Jagr been drafted 10 years earlier or 10 years later he'd have scored a ton more than he even did.

Jeebus, let me dust off my Jason Herter Upper Deck autographed draft card.

Edit: Knew it was still in the collection!

Grundy hits hard. It seems to come and go, though.
Lemieux seems like a poor man's Avery. But Avery had better speed, delivered hard hits and had underrated hockey sense.
And was someone you’d want nowhere near the dressing room or the prospects. He could have been a very good player... if he wasn’t Avery.

The offense is not the problem this year. Sure our PP sucked for a bit but overall the offense has generated chances. We need to get the puck out of the D zone quicker. We get hemed in our zone for shift after shift then we say our offense isn't producing. Fix the D so we seperate the man from the puck and make a good first pass out of the zone, you'll see how much better our wins\loss record would be.

And yes, McDermind is part of that issue. Need D men to have hockey IQ as well as forwards.
Disagree, our offence and defense issues are both in part because of the forwards. We’ve been bad off cycle and the finishing has been questionable. Getting hemmed in is definitely a 5 man issue as all the players have to cover their men and passing lanes. I completely agree that the D need to be more effective on the first pass, but it doesn’t help if the forwards aren’t always giving good outlet options.

It’s never as simple as blaming one group. The biggest issue is we have a number of guys that are placeholders, at the end of their careers or Rookies. In other words it’s early in the rebuild and it shows. We have Carter basically done, Wagner, Lizotte, MacDermid who would all clear waivers plus some young guys still adapting to NHL hockey. JAD, Vilardi, Anderson, Clague and Björnfot are rookies. Then you have Walker and Roy on D that do not qualify as veterans.

I really don’t understand why our up and down performances are that surprising. Yes, we know the one hole is another LHD but even then there’s not a huge rush there, certainly not now.

No one's gonna comment on @kovacro 's autographed Geoff Courtnall card eh
Geoff Courtnall took a slapshot at me when I was kid. I learned to skate and play hockey at the rink the Caps practiced at in the 80s. I wasn't paying attention during the warm up before their practice and shot one right at me. Now, I was behind the glass but it clearly scared the crap out of me because he and another Cap were laughing when I looked up.

Kings should jump on these 3 team cap retention deals. get some extra assets.

Can someone check Blake's pulse....These are the type of deals we should do to at least gain back a 4th we gave for Lemieux...seriously what is he doing?

Taking on salary requires ownership approval. We have no idea whether AEG is on board for these types of moves.
Well it's horse shit. They are near the cap floor and the lack of skill on the roster has not only prevented the King's from winning but it's also slowed down the progress of the rebuild. The kids need some skill to sharpen their own skill.

We can't even spend a million for some free picks?

Believe me, I want the Kings to be involved in trades like this. It makes a ton of sense to buy assets.

I just don't know if I'm ready to pin the blame on Blake alone. It's possible AEG may not be thrilled with the idea of paying a player now just to buy something in the future. At least they're paying Lemieux to play for the team now, for example.

If we’re talking about a 1st round pick, then sure. Pull the trigger.

but our cupboard is stocked and we have a ton of mid round picks in the upcoming years. I really don’t feel like we need to replace the 4th we gave up for lemeiux. Not upset if AEG feels the same way.
