Good idea in a vaccum. Until you start forcing under qualified players into positions they aren’t ready for just cause of “size”. Are we going to pull Trevor Moore from the lineup/not call up Turcotte in favor of some knuckle dragger as well?

Or even worse, you start using high picks on guys just because they are big.

This organizations 1st round draft history is filled with big guys who were terrible players (Zultek, Biron, Steckel, Teubert, Karlsson, Forbort).

If it's depth picks, ok I can live with that. But I don't want to return to the days of taking 6'4 players with "developing offensive games" and passing on Karlsson's and Tarasenko's.

I take this as more of a Strand over Clague thing than a hey let's get rid of Walker and bring in Gudbranson thing

If this org of all orgs hasn't learned that lesson...

Clague over Maatta? Clague over Strand? I wouldn’t be so sure @driller1

I definitely think Seattle takes Clague over Maatta 100%.

Strand is interesting since he has close ties to the area and has size, but still probably tops out as a #6 D. Clague has the pedigree, hype, AHL all-star season and probably tops out as higher than a #6.

Wouldn’t be crushed and it’d create some room.

Chychrun is 6’2”. Signed to a sweet deal and only 23 years old. Solid season he’s having. Would cost a lot of Phoenix was even willing to trade, especially being in the same division.

I think the NHL is moving towards a speed oriented league. Next year, I can see a lineup of:

Kupari - Kopitar - Brown
Iafallo - Vilardi - Carter
AA - Lizzotte - Wagner
Grundstrom - JAD - Moore

Anderson - Doughty
Roy - Bjornfot
Walker - XX

Peterson
Quick

I think Vilardi will really come around next season, but he will not be the driving force on his line. He'll need a skilled winger who can take over at times. I just don't see Iafallo or Carter doing that. But with Kupari in the lineup, he will bring a crap ton of speed and skill to that top line and should help with point production. We need speed if we're going to contend with Colorado and Edmonton. I think that's why Iafallo is in the lineup, but we also need hands and we got a couple of guys coming up who have pretty sick hands. Can't wait for Byfield to make his debut. Once Byfield's ready, we should ship Kopitar out as I believe his type of play is on the out, but he's a good placeholder. Byfield will step in and be an absolute beast. Can't wait! Turcotte will fill in the wing on one of the top lines eventually as ONT is grooming him to be a winger. We will have legit speed and skill. These are good days we're living in gentlemen.
Let's see, Hart level offense, Selke level defense -- yeah, get rid of him. We definitely don't need a "placeholder" like that on the team.

Some of us have been complaining about he lack of size on D forever. I'm glad to see Blake sees you can't just ice small puck movers that don't have any offense.

Yeah, it seem you still need a mix of guys. 2 bigger guys and 4 smaller. We could use a couple of guys 6-2 and above that can actually play.

Blake isn’t suggesting any of that but he’s correct when saying that we need a bit more size in the lineup. We also need a bit more snarl as part of that because we cannot be relying on Big Mac to provide it as he’s just not good enough to play meaningful minutes. It does suggest they’d like to see Strand progress and it perhaps gives a guide to what he’s looking for if they trade for a LHD. They may well want to trade for some size in the bottom 6 also.

It’d be such a shame to have center depth of 4 of those types of “placeholders” I don’t think we’d ever win a game.....do I need a sarcasm face for the ridiculousness of a “placeholder”.

Honestly.

Kopitar is one of my favorite players. I will hate the day he retires. But I also look forward to when that day comes and people who have been underappreciating and itching to dump him have to experience Kings hockey without him. Like there are Selke-caliber centers who regularly lead the team in scoring just so easily replaceable.

We need a Matt Greene , Regehr or Mitchell in the worst way

We've already got one...

Out of curiosity, what players are similar to Regehr, Mitchell, and Greene that we could potentially trade for? Saying we should get a guy like that is great; who is out there like that?
