fully agree, but one thing in LA's favor is the flat cap and not alot of teams with cap space.
He and Parise just got fat checks. Players of their caliber who haven't won yet can afford to take short term small cash deals with contenders to chase the Cup.

I bet Suter replaces Chara in Washington.

That’s an odd response given that you seem to agree with most here in saying that it’s nowhere near one of the worst in the league. I’d say most on this board agree with that and aren’t delusional about it.

I've read pretty much nothing but complaints about Doughty and his contract on here. I find it amusing at all the hate on Doughty's contract yet people want to sign Suter and he's about the same age as when DD's contract ends.

Fair enough, guess I haven’t waded into that discussion here as much.

I'd go the third year to land Suter. The thought of him playing next to Doughty is pretty exciting. I don't think it's gonna take a lot of money to sign him, given he's getting PAID by Minny for not playing for them. It'll depend on how he feels about playing for an up-and-coming team, and playing in LA.

I highly doubt Suter wants to sign with a team in the midst of a rebuild, almost assured he signs with a contender. He hasn't won a cup and certainly doesn't need the money, Vegas makes sense to me if Marty walks.

I'd do 3 years/3 million per. He won't be fancy, but a Suter/Doughty pairing would be very solid. I could see him putting up 30-40 points alongside Doughty. Money is no issue for the next couple years and he'd be a good mentor to the younger guys like Bjornfoot and Anderson. The games I saw this year especially against Vegas in round 1 I thought he looked solid, again nothing fancy, but he played solid.

He'd be our Scuderi (without the cup)

I still think that he and Parise will cup chase and end up in Colorado, NYI, or a team like that .

I love our prospects, but we need some veteran players too, especially ones from outside the organization that will bring a fresh voice in. He's played over a thousand games and is one of only a few American defenseman to have scored over 500 points. Not the same player of course, but definitely someone that could help these kids grow and be successful in the NHL. I'd be willing to overpay to get him on the Kings. I'd overpay on that instead of giving up a bunch of assets for a 2-4 year addition.

Everybody bitches about Brown, bitched about Carter, but now we want Suter?

Brown, Carter and Suter were drafted in 2003, and all turn 37 this season.
i mean, a stay at home D is very different from a winger when it comes to age regression, suter appears to still have a season or two in him

i'm not gonna say that i think it's a good idea, but it's not the same

Who is this Carter you speak of? Carter Heart? Hutton? Verhaeghe? Rowney?

He was bought out for a reason.

Also, your characterization of him as a stay at home dman is incorrect.

I think we should try to land Suter. He is still a very good defender although he has slipped a bit. A two year deal would be best. Unfortunately he will sign with Tampa, Vegas or Colorado. Suters buyout makes the Keith trade look even worse for the Oilers. I still can't believe that the Hawks did not retain a single dollar

15 million over 2 years for Suter. That's a lot of money considering he's getting his 7.5 from the Wild. Still doubt he wants to go to LA. He will go to Boston or Chicago.

He has already made his money. 63 million in base salary + 25 million in signing bonuses over the course of his contrat already. Suter is a weathly man.
He can sign cheap to a contender if he wants a chance to win the cup. Don't think Blake has much leverage here, even with our cap space, unless of course he is chasing even more money. He would be a nice fit here for a few years though if he is cheap. I am sure we'll inquire on him.

I take that back. He’s not getting paid much by Minny; it’s his cap hit that’s enormous. Real dolllars it’s $833,333 per season for the next 8 years.

Those buyouts have gotta be for the cash savings. The cap hit saved is negligible.

The cap savings are substantial this year. It's $10m they just opened up.

the team that just bought two guys today could use a center.
I think there would be a market for Stamkos, just not sure where he would waive to go. If vegas is in on eichel and can somehow make that cap work, than I have to think they would be in on Stamkos.

Not that there's no market, but it's going to be limited for Stamkos. He's not going just anywhere.

I would think the Wild are trying fir Eichel, and they opened up a lot of space for next year.

The Kings landed Scuderi and Mitchell even though they weren’t contenders at the time. They did it by giving them an extra year that other teams wouldn’t. I wouldn’t count the Kings out if Blake offered three years. Ryan Suter is an absolute rock. Maybe not as much offense any more, but he would be a great addition to the back end.

Mitchell was 33, and Scuderi was 31, when they came here. You know who is still 33? Kopitar. 31? Doughty. That's messed up.

Suter gets to pick and choose where he goes right now. Is term a selling point at 36/37 years of age? Do you want it to be? I can't imagine there's anything for Suter here. This isn't even Kovalchuk, where you still have most of a roster that won the Cup, so add another vet and see what happens.

i'd buy an old expensive defenseman out too if i was in a position where i'm probably gonna have to shell near 8 figures out for someone as talented as kaprizov too

not exactly sure how i'd refer to him other than a stay at home though
What DO you mean???
