Suter isn't very good anymore to be honest, but I'd love to see Doughty and Suter play 30 minutes a night just for the hell of it.

Boy, that’s some major dead cap space for the Wild with Suter and Parise buyouts:
21-22: $4.7m
22-23: $12.7m
23-24: $14.7m
24-25: $14.7m

I imagine those buyouts are done with the expansion draft in mind? They would have had to protect Parise and Suter (NMCs) and probably lost a player more important to their future.

At least that's the reason I can imagine for doing this now.

Moving Stamkos, instead of giving up assets to get rid of a cap dump like Johnson is the right move for TB. I just didn't think they would do it.

That said, I'm not sure if there's much a of a market for Stamkos.

Those buyouts have gotta be for the cash savings. The cap hit saved is negligible.

Probably a combination of opening up their pursestrings for Kaprizov while also ensuring they protect Dumba.

In 2017, teams were trading with Vegas so they wouldn't take a good player. Seattle is suffering from teams being gunshy now.

It's just gnarly to me to tack on $13-15MM of dead cap space before signing your star player to a contract that will see a nice part of his prime impacted by said dead cap space.

They should trade him if he is already proving to be difficult. If there is any inkling that he will be unhappy unless he is in a major metro area or the KHL, it might not be a bad idea to move him for a nice package.

Even if they can somehow move Stamkos before the expansion draft, they still will need to make a deal with Seattle, or just lose a Killorn/Palat/Foote/McDonagh

That's worse than LA's buyouts last year of Kovalchuk and Phaneuf!

I think it maybe the worse in league history (other than compliance buy outs like rick DiPetro that didn't count as cap hits)

I still wish LA would have just made Dion the 7th D-man for one year than bought him out

the team that just bought two guys today could use a center.
I think there would be a market for Stamkos, just not sure where he would waive to go. If vegas is in on eichel and can somehow make that cap work, than I have to think they would be in on Stamkos.
