Waiting to see if C. Fletcher goes full Chiarelli with the Flyers this offseason.

Byfield, his strength is still going to be building over the next few years. 1 month 7 days until 19. Don't really care how many points he puts up next year or the year after. Is he improving, is what I care about.

Rangers have Panarin. Talk about glossing over big details.

Yeah Kopitar played 23-24 mins toi and panarin got 19. You're right I forgot about Panarin And Lafreniere definitely underperforming the extent he did was an anomaly rather than normalcy. Everyone said Lafreniere was NHL ready and he didn't do good. Is that the standard or the anomaly? If that's the anomaly, why even make such an argument to suggest that Byfield will replicate what he did. Everyone and their mother had issues with Lafrenieres production.

It's a good question.

I'd actually argue the McDavids' and Matthews' are the anomaly--guys that come in gangbusters at 18, even 19, are getting rarer.

Even Mackinnon took a while to get going. Draisaitl was in the process of being written off as a bust when he blew up and people took another year or two attributing his production to McJesus as well. Hughes, Kakko, Dach. Dahlin, Svechnikov, Kotkaniemi. Hischier, Patrick, Heiskanen. There was Matthews and Laine, but behind them was PLD, Poolparty, and Olli Juolevi. You could argue that outside Matthews and Laine, Hischier was the surprise best debut of the bunch.

Many of those guys were expected to be in the NHL off the bat--Byfield was not. All the more reason, looking at the above list, to temper expectations accordingly.

Byfield should be able to hit 20 goals / 50 points by the age of 20 if he's a truly elite prospect.

I don't think the Kings have had a player under the age 21 hit 50 points since Doughty & Kopitar.

For this coming season, 40 points would be very good for QB.

Agreed. Some on here are setting the bar too low for Byfield. 40 points is a reasonable expectation imo.
A quick look on Hockey DB shows that most top 5 picks are producing in the NHL by their draft +2 year. Laine had 44 goals, Eichel scored almost a ppg, Svechnikov had 20+g/50+pts, even Sam Reinhart had 20+g/40+pts.
Doesn't mean Byfield is a bust if he doesn't take off next year, but as a 2nd overall pick we should be expecting big things from him.

I am expecting 70-75 points combined from Vilardi and Byfield if they spend the season as the 2c/3c.

Comparing QB to Kopitar's production is valid since QB is a highly touted #2 pick. But let's not forget that Kopitar's first 4-5 years in the league is ranked in the top 10 if not top 5 in total pts in the modern era.

Big shoes to fill for QB.

The formula for NHL Offensive Points (NOP) vs LA Kings Offensive Points (LAKOP) is:

NOP - 20% = LAKOP

IE: If Kucherov was traded to the Kings, his 86 points would be 20% less; 68 pts.
Temper all Kings offensive numbers accordingly.

Since he just got bought out, wonder if Blake try’s Suter to help on the left. He’s still got a few years left in ability.

absolutely would like Suter. Doubt he signs with the Kings though. There will be a lot of contenders in on him. Front runner has to be the Flyers given Fletcher is there and their need for D to replace niskanen.

2 year bridge deal. Great mentor for fellow American, Mikey Anderson. I can see it. IMO contenders are going to go hard after him though.

Yeah unless Blake makes one heck of a sell job, he’ll probably go to a contender. But he’d be great experienced vet to help out.
