Meh, he’s going to the Leafs just like every other player available this off-season.

Any type of back surgery always makes me a bit leery…

Bertuzzi injured his back on Jan. 28 against Dallas but a troubling recovery pushed him to seek a second opinion and he had an operation on April 30.

"You never want surgery, but I thought I was honestly going to be a little bit more immobile after," Bertuzzi told reporters in May. "I'm feeling really good right now, so I'm happy I ended up doing it.

Quick Shifts: 'No-brainer' and most popular buyout candidates

We need an asshole for Kopitar and eventually Byfield. The amount of abuse this guy has received throughout his career is off the charts. I wouldn’t mind someone throwing a couple elbows throughout a season after players run them.

Wow the filter kicked my ass there.

It was a female anatomy joke that ties in well with the players name

I agree. Lemieux is a lightweight asshole but we need a truculent asshole who can pot 20-25, get greasy and knock someone’s block off if they get cute with Kopitar.

Where does Byfield finish in team scoring next year; top 5, or top 10?
Too early to say. I think halfway through next season he really starts settling in and putting up points. The season after hell be making us question if Kopitar should still be the #1c. Then the season after that Byfield will be the clear cut #1.
Just my view on how it will play out unless he comes into next season a lot more physically mature.

If he’s played the majority of the season and isn’t near the top 5 we’ve got a serious problem.

I agree with you. But Todd has to put him into a position where he can actually succeed. If he's lining up next to Wagner and Lizotte or something that's not going to be good for his development. You cannot expect a nineteen-year-old to carry a line.

Byfield needs to play with talented linemates. It's why I really like the pickup of VA. Byfield needs to play with at the very least Trevor Moore on his line. If TMc continues to trot out grinders with our best prospects he's going to lose me.

I’d run a Lemieux-Byfield-Arvidsson line. Arvidsson gives that line experience and the ability to finish and Lemieux ensures no one pulls any shit against Byfield.

In my opinion, Lemieux's not a scorer or very offensively dangerous. And he's more of a pest than a protector.

I'd love for something like:
Iafallo-Kopitar-Kempe
Moore-Byfield-Arvidsson
Andersson-Vilardi-Brown
Grundstrom-JAD-Wagner/Lemieux/MacDermid/etc

The middle six is interchangeable. But I think having good vets for Byfield and not expecting him to carry a line would be great. He gets the team's best RW as well as a "plug & play" forward who's skilled but low maintenance.

Andersson/Vilardi and Iafallo/Kopitar have good synergy, and I'd like to avoid breaking them up.

I'm usually an optimist around these parts, but man I'm really pessimistic about our team next year. On so many levels, our guys just aren't cutting it. It's not even so much that we have players out of place, it's that the team literally just isn't good enough. Byfield, Vilardi, Bjornfot, and Anderson are going to need to make some huge steps forward for us to be decent next season.

I hope to see Thomas up getting his feet wet with the big club. He plays a great two way game and could end up being a 2nd line forward with some nice grit. If we bring up Kaliyev and Kupari to start the season as it seems we will then I think we will be a better team than we were last year. We are a couple of years (2 imo) from being a legit contender but with adding Arvidson and bringing up a couple of kids we might be much better team than this year. I am sold on our being a playoff team but it could happen. 22/23 is when I believe we will start seeing a significant change in our team. Then I think we could be legit contenders again. Return to the cup years.

That seems more like a 3rd line but I think Arvidsson is top. I am hoping Frk can make it back and would round out that 3rd pairing.

Where's Kaliyev?
