LOL they you must have loved Bay Harbor, 20 foot wall in that corner.....

The only rink weirder than Bay Harbor was the ballroom rink in Pasadena. The refs would have both teams skate circles in between periods to help the fog rise so we could actually see the puck. On top of that, the rink basically had no flat boards and was a slightly stretched circle, and the Maple Leafs that played there were allowed to pick numbers with three digits (or multiple zeros).

LMAO I remember that rink fondly, the dressing rooms that would fit 5 players, and the officials room that doubled as the first aid room, unless they had you go upstairs.....I remember lining there for full contact college hockey, D like 25 or whatever it was, Caltech had a team etc, that was....interesting.

For all those ripping on Turcotte, he actually had 1 more point than Byfield in Ontario this season. Not saying he's amazing and better than Byfield. Just an observation that his season wasn't crap.

The ease at which he seems to get injured is a concern. Hopefully he drinks his milk and protein shakes, eats a few steaks, kills a wild boar and avoids fried food this offseason.

He definitely came on strong which no doubt coincided with the Reign's improved play.

I joke about his injuries but the injury concerns were a knock on him going into the draft and he has done nothing to calm those fears. The injury at the WJC seemed to happen on a nothing play and it sidelines him for a month. He always seems "week-to-week" v. "day-to-day". Maybe everything in the AHL season is the same problem from the WJC but, regardless, it is worrisome when it looks like he just falls down on a face off and is week-to-week.

It doesn't mean you bail on him but--at the same time--it isn't very cool. I mean, is every other Top 10 pick slated to start the year in the NHL next season?

The Ducks have really capitalized on falling players such as Zegras and Drysdale. This gives me hope for this draft

As elated as I was when the King's got Turcotte it's safe to say that it's not working out as a fifth overall. I want to see more than "flashes".

A trend that I'm noticing us that the guys who fall due to "questions about how their game will translate to the NHL" are really killing it. It may be time for the dogmatic scouting view of what an nhl player should be be reconsidered. This is a new NHL.

It seems every draft someone falls to the Ducks. Ever since Fowler.

I liked playing in Pasadena, maybe it was because the best goalie in the league was Billy Ruggierio and I'd have my best games against him. That team was always loaded with several guys that played Canadian major junior and or college. Billy's sister Angela played D and her shot was so hard and heavy.

I still have high hopes for Turcotte, however those hopes maybe shifting into him being used to bring in a top player from buffalo
Maybe but name two teams that were worse than the Ducks this year.

LOL Billy was about....2 years-3 years younger than me I believe, my sister played with him and Angela on that Pasadena team.....they also had another sister Pam play as well, such a hockey family they actually moved to Michigan when Billy was 14-15 I think....so he had better opportunities....

Yea Billy ended up playing for the London Knights in the OHL. I spoke to his dad Bill after meeting him in a Yahoo NHL chat back when I was 18 haha. He was a great guy that always made sure his kids were taken care of. I was always jealous of Billy getting new equipment...they are good people. Just some names I remember from that team who went on to play at a higher level that California minor hockey haha....

Garrett Stafford
Gable Gross
Brett Sterling

Yep, them along with even Richard Park from Bay Harbor etc, were really the first.....from CA to make in higher levels, including Major Junior, and lower level pro's etc.

Yea my brother played with Richard Park along with some of the old RHI guys for the LA Blades! Steve Bogeyavic, Chris Nelson, Mike Callahan. I played with Gabe Gauthier and Ryan Hollweg who both played up a couple age groups.

LOL Bogey....I used to play in the Mens League in Burbank, as a spare goaltender when I was 16-17 etc, kinda hush hush due to the age, but played with Bogey, Callahan, Doers, etc, one summer the Bure brothers and Zhamnov were playing there as well...just....amazing to watch them literally screw around and be 100x better than the top players.....

Am I the only one who watched the WJC? Turcotte was awesome the entire tournament, and was centering Zegras.
This is like a dude who meets a sexy college grad. Smart and a 9/10 in the looks department. It's hot and fresh. Their relationship is a romance and a porno movie.

The two move in together. She's taking a break from life because she just graduated. Fast forward a year and the relationship is rough. She doesn't work. She can't cool well but tries. She doesn't clean the house but she makes the bed. She's gained 30 pounds and needs lots of time to herself. She goes on girls trips but she messages you and says she misses you.

There's an argument and a serious talk that results in her trying. She promises to look for a job and she loses 5 pounds. Repeat this cycle over and over again.

Eventually you have to make a decision. She is no longer the 110 pound firecracker. She's smart but not using it. It's great for 3 months out of the year. You know that it's not special but there is always that memory of sleeping with that 110 pound college girl. She gives you just enough to make you think that maybe she can make something special.

Do you give her the ring and HOPE for average or do you wish her well and try for special?

I understand the analogy, but man that was depressing.

Remember getting run over by Gabe Gauthier in bantams, thinking what the f*** is this kid, like 18?

He was 13.

Sounds like OLD NHL talk to me.

I still think the shift emblematic his game was the GWG in the WJC--he laid a check and advanced the puck in every zone before making the pass to Kaliyev for the winner.

Think 'puck driving center,' not grinder.

There's an actual skill in learning how to not get injured. I think he'll figure it out.

He hasn’t grown much since haha. He’s a great kid from a great family. I still talk to him and his dad a few times a year. I know he was running some hockey schools and doing some broadcasting.

I can’t remember which former Russian player from the Ducks coached in Riverside...Anatoli Semenov? Guy smoked like a chimney. I played roller hockey for former King and Duck Jim Thomson. Energy Performance Hockey! It was him Mikhail Shtalenkov, and Dave Karpa.

I actually agree that staying healthy is a 'skill' at the highest level...but Turcotte's injuries always look so, so strange--fluky if they weren't repetitive. Like this one was just a stick trip that looked like a toe pick face plant. The WJC one was a corkscrew trip. etc...

I'm hopeful he'll get past them like early career Justin Williams.
