I'm holding out hope Cal can be the guy, but this team definitely needs a backup plan. Since mid-February Quick's numbers have been substantially better. Different QOC of course, but it's a concern. He was head and shoulders better at the beginning of the year but he's been trending down.

He'll turn 37 during next season. It's getting close to the end for him. It's crazy to think about because I remember when he was an 18 year old kid being thrown into the NHL.

Makes me feel old.

I could potentially see him taking a 1 year deal with a contender after next season.

38 after next season. Millions of kids. Has 2 Cups. If it means anything, he's only been with one organization. The only reason for him to sign somewhere after next year is to feel something on the ice again.

Zach Werenski could really help move the needle forward next year if he was a King. He’s 23 years old LHD, 6’2” and 212 lbs. In 63 games during the shortened 19/20 season he put up 20 goals and 41 points on a Columbus team which didn’t score a lot. He’s an RFA after next season and is going to be paid $7M in salary against a $5M cap hit. The Jackets will be looking for centers and have to find a way to re-sign Seth Jones who is a UFA at the end of next season too.

So Werenski obviously checks all the boxes for any team in the league, but especially the Kings. He’s not rumored to be available, but regardless, the price to get him would be high returns. I’d like to think a package centered around Vilardi could be competitive. Maybe Vilardi and Kempe. Or Vilardi, Kupari and this years first if it’s in the #15 overall range.

i can't see how anyone pries him away from cbus honestly, i think they make room for him at all costs

crazy to think of him as 23, feels like forever ago he hit the ground running in the NHL and hasn't slowed

There’s no way Columbus would move Werenski for any less than the proposed deal. I love Vilardi but the Kings win that deal quite easily. The names mentioned on D won’t be traded unless it feels a need and their team feels they have internal help on D to fill the void. It’s quite the pipe dream to think Werenski, Sergachev, Chychrun etc. will be moved.

3 first round picks for someone with 2 years of RFA. whos at best a number 2 ok......

Kupari is not worth a 1st at this point and Vilardis injury history still scares teams off I’m sure. Kings aren’t ready to make a big move but that trade is a slam dunk for the Kings. They will likely go with someone like Dunn because he won’t cost as many assets.

Dunn would be Maatta 2.0 and a waste of time unless they are ok with being a bad team again.

Unfortunately, you almost have to draft a #1-2 defenseman. The Kings are currently seeded #10 and will have no shot at the big 4, atm: Power, Hughes, Edvinsson, Clarke.
But, they are only 2 points from the 5th seed! 4 games left: 3 vs Colorado and 1 vs St Louis...a shot at losing 3 out of 4, hopefully, and getting the the 5th - 6th seed.
Time to cheer for: SJ, Ottawa, Calgary, Detroit, C-Bus, and NJ to WIN.

The Kings really need to land one of those 4 defensemen and YES, I know they are at least 1-3 years away, but they still need one of them.

You're probably going to have to change the names to better ones. Since we're not part of any conversations GMs have, unless proven otherwise, always assume you have to pay full price.

A soon to be 24 year old top pairing D. Hasn't scored fewer than 11 goals in a full season, with a high so far of 20. That's upper tier prospect type value. Centered around Vilardi? Certainly not. He'd be an addition to the main part of the deal.

Yeah it’d be for Byfield.

Of Kopitar's 1000 pts, 492 have so far come in years where the team missed the playoffs. 508 in good years.

594 games in non-playoff years, 531 in good years.

23g and 68pts per 82 games in non-playoff years.

28g and 78pts per 82 games in playoff years.

The Kings were 1-3 at home against Col, VGK, and Ari. They were -1 in goal differential against the Avs, -6 against Vegas, and -7 against the Coyotes.

When Kupari had the terrible knee injury, was at the WJC at the age of 19. It was a terrible blow. He had 33 points in 43 games in Karpat the year before and
was off to a slow start in the AHL, some 27 games. He's come back strong and his skating is as good or even better, than before the injury. And he has been one of the
best, if not the best player most all year with the Reign. He's got size, some power to his game, great skating and has a very good shot. I would think due to the
loss of half a season and the big improvement in 1 year, he's now where he was projecting to be, when drafted AND teams would love to have him.

I would think other teams book on Kupari is that they would surely want him in a deal. Just turned 21, great skater, great shot, good vision, can play wing or center.
About 6'1" 200 now. He's had 65 PM in 43 games in Karpat, so no wilting flower, either. One of the few players on the Reign with a positive plus - minus of plus 2.

I'm sure teams would want Byfield, Bjornfot , Kaliyev, Turcotte, but Kupari would be on their list. Then there's Fagemo and Thomas. Too bad about the injury to Madden.
Agree about Vilardi. He may never have back issues again, but other teams may not want to deal a top player for him as part of the package; rather target one or 2 of the
others. A GM may feel that if he acquires Gabe as 1 of the top assets in a deal and he gets injured, he'll lose his job. Not a lot of chance takers out there.

If you aren’t trading Byfield for Werenski, it’d have to be Turcotte. Columbus is in dire need of centers, and they need someone to play with Laine. So maybe Turcotte and this years #1 starts the conversation but there’d have to be more added.

If you're trading Byfield it starts and ends with Dahlin.

Regardless Byfield is untouchable. I wouldn't trade him for anyone. Hopefully our Kopitar 2.0.

I've seen Turcotte's name included in a potential deal but there would need to be 3 or 4 more pieces included with that including another top Kings prospect, our first round pick this year, and most likely next year's first round pick too. Byfield and Dahlin would be a nice continuation of Kopitar and Doughty.

It certainly feels like Blake will be doing something big this summer.

I could be wrong but it looks like the "best" draft position the Kings can now get is #7 (pre-lottery balls of course). They'd have to lose their next 3 games to do it.

Blake has 3 organizational assets:
1. Prospect center depth
2. Draft picks
3. Cap space

I doubt he uses any of them to improve the team this summer. I expect him to tell the STH that the playoffs are the goal but don't expect any major additions. At which point if I was a STH I'd just shake my head.
