CSKA Moscow makes a trade and acquires rights for Lias Andersson from Magnitogorsk. Theу will try to sign him in the summer.

Interesting...any idea what they gave up? May give a clue into how confident they are in signing him

Andersson's rights were traded for LA Kings legend Brendan Leipsic. Seems like a swap of player rights who are both unlikely to be in the KHL next season, as Leipsic's contract with CSKA ended.

it's times like this that i'm amused by how little i know about hockey contracts

Had a feeling it would be Kupari since he is already burning ELC and will be in his D+4 season next year. I'd rather have him get whatever this experience is the rest of the way v. the other guys.

I posted something about the call up being based on merit and Kupari has the highest PPG this season. Nice push by the other 2018 in Thomas but Kupari has earned it and has the higher pedigree so no issues with it.

With Brown now out, it is too bad that all of the call-ups have been used.

Brown out for the year!!
Kupari time?

This looks like a face saving move for Brown. He clearly slowed down as the season moved along, but you can't sit a franchise icon so call it an injury and use his roster slot for a prospect to play the final 5 games. I suspect we will se a lot of this next season as well as Brown plays out the final year of his contract and rides off into the sunset.

I dunno, who do we need to see after tonight? Once Byfield goes down our 2nd line center is gonna be the water boy.

Going to be interesting to see the lines. I wonder who they'll put on Kopitar's right side.

Byfield/Moore and Vilardi/Andersson have looked pretty good as pairs, so you probably don't want to break them up.

Pretty sure lying about an injury and putting a player and likely putting him on LTIR, even with cap space, is considered cap circumvention.

I hate to say it, but he was the worst player on the ice last game. Couldn't handle a pass, win a board battle, make a good pass. It was brutal.

Could be, or it could be a nagging injury that slowed him down. I remember he went down pretty hard a month ago, but I cant remember the game. Also, I don't think you can just LTIR someone without having some documentation for an injury for cap reasons.

If the Kings somehow make the playoffs next season, do you think Brown rolls back on a 1 year deal, cashes another check and is maybe cool with a lesser role? Next year will be his 18th season though which is a boatload of hockey without even factoring in playoffs, international competition and the 2005 season in Manchester.

It's always frustrating seeing players improve as soon as they leave your team.

Martinez is playing the best hockey of his career. Toffoli is near the top of the league in goal scoring. And now Carter has 8 goals in 13 games.
And for those players, we got:
  • For Martinez:
    • 2nd round 2020 - traded to NYR for Andersson
    • 2nd round 2021
  • For Toff:
    • Madden
    • 2nd round 2020 - sent to Det and drafted Fabre
  • For Carts
    • Conditional 3rd round 2022
    • Conditional 4th round 2023
I’m fine with these deals. Needed to get younger and I trust Yanetti to keep picking quality players.

Forgot that Arizona's pick is forfeited. Yikes.

Cool for the Kings if they finish with more points and don't win the lottery...winding up with the 12th pick is actually the 11th.

Also like Calgary sucking so that Forbort 4th is pretty much equal to the 4th given up for Lemieux.

I'm fine with these deals also. Those players were never going to play that well here.

Toffoli is the one that really irks me though. I don't know why he could never live up to his potential here. He became nearly a goal-per-game scorer in Junior, eventually became a near a goal-per-game scorer in the AHL.

At 23 years old he became a 30 goal scorer in the NHL. His career should have soared from there. He should have been on his way to become one of the better goal scorers in the league, but instead he went flat.

People will blame the Kings, but I blame Toffoli himself. I just never saw the hunger/effort. He should've been a 35+ goal scorer here. He's always had that kind of ability.

As for Amart, I love the guy, but I never thought he was capable of playing as well as he has for VGK. He looks fantastic.

Everyone plays hurt, there are lots of injuries in a physical sport over a long season. In this case, they probably just acknowledged it in order to let Brown save face and not sit him in the press box while opening a spot on the roster.

I can't imagine that next year won't be DB's final season. He strike me as being too proud to be a part time 4th liner.

He'll turn 37 during next season. It's getting close to the end for him. It's crazy to think about because I remember when he was an 18 year old kid being thrown into the NHL.

Makes me feel old.

I could potentially see him taking a 1 year deal with a contender after next season.

The Kopitar retrospective on the Athletic is pretty awesome
