Swiss League is the 2nd league though. Brännström is playing in Switzerland's top league, called National League, formerly NLA. So this tweet isn't correct.

Sorry if this has been answered before, but why arent prospects like Logan Brown, Jonathan Davidsson, Josh Norris, Drake Batherson and the like playing in Europe? Would it not be great for confidence and developement to go over, get some reps in and score some points before NHL training camps open?

Gotta think JBD is a lock to come out this year. Pinto would probably be 50/50 depending on how the year goes. Sanderson, being so young for his class, would probably spend one more year at school but who knows.

It would be crazy to have three guys all step out of the same program onto the same NHL team. But this is 2020 and we are the Ottawa Senators so nothing would shock me at this point.

Dorion mentioned on sportsnet that all the UND players want to win a championship this year. I doubt any of them come over. Likely they all move to the AHL at the same time in 2021 excluding Kleven.

In the case of Batherson, Norris and Brown they might not feel comfortable leaving the country right now giving the state of things.

Ottawa

Got to love it.

Four goals in two games, all scored different ways (split the D score on a deke, clutch OT penalty shot, one timer from the right circle, bang one in from the crease).

He’s just a guy who gets it done despite not having ideal physical tools. The determination is impressive. He’s coming for that gold helmet.

Todays prospect news
Abramov 2g in Jukerit's 4-1 win
Roby Jarventie's 5-game point streak ended Saturday during a 5-3 loss. Teammate Lassi Thomson played season-low 7:52 (he was -2) but he did manage to record Ilves' hardest shot for the 5th time in 6 games, setting a new high of 98.9 MPH
Engstrand 's Malmo team lost 4-2, Engstrand has 0 points this season so far this season.

Not a lot of spots in Europe I guess. As far as I know, Brännström is the only NHL loan without a Swiss license playing in the National League.

Technically there's also McLeod and the Oilers could get him back anytime but the plan is for him to play the entire season for Zug so he's not your standart covid loan.

The Tigers took Brännström because they don't have to pay him, because they have key injuries and because Brännström is exactly what they needed to compete again.

Generally teams:

- asked their players and stuff to accept lower salaries due to covid so the teams can't just sign NHL players

- can only hire a limited amount of players with foreign licenses and most of those spots are gone at the start of the season.

- don't want players who aren't with them for the full season. This is why many nhl loans are forced to play in lower leagues

To summarize: not a lot of spots available and European teams can't or don't want to pay salaries or cover for insurance. If NHL teams want to loan their players, they'll have to cover for all or almost all costs. It's a good option for European teams to get cheap replacements in case of injuries but overall the interest in those loans is pretty low. It's obviously much easier for European players to find a team than for Americans or Canadians who almost always count as foreigners in European leagues.

A lot of these European teams already have a number of players & access to their own pipeline of players. I'd be very surprised if they allowed more than one or two players per team from NA to join their teams. What would happen to a team who has 4 to 6 NA players on their roster than all of a sudden the NA leagues start up & the team loses 4 or 5 guys especially if they are in a playoff hunt? I think it's about developing their own prospects from their own countries at minor league levels but there might be some control at the pro levels as well.

I think we should also consider how their fans (gov) feel about foreign players coming over & taking jobs away from their players, not to mention how they would feel after they left mid-season & their team nose dives after they are gone. While it's great to see some up & coming NHL talent, how well do they know prospects outside their own countries? Having prospects from their countries who are on an NHL trajectory makes sense & would probably work out the best, but even then it would need to be controlled so as to not lose too many players at once. Is there a rule as to how many foreign players can play on a European team? Two players per team makes sense to me, isn't that the limit in the CHL as well?

Jarvartie is out to a good start for such a young guy in a men's league, he doesn't seem to be holding anything back. I wonder if he has a good yr if the plan would be to bring him over to NA the following yr maybe to play in Belleville to learn the NA game? He looks like a guy to keep an eye on.

No, there's no limit of NHL loans...but like you said it makes little sense for teams to loan players that could be gone before playoffs start. And again, NHL teams need to be prepared to cover the costs of their players in order to find spots for them.

In the National League you can dress 4 players with foreign licences per game, in the Swiss League you can dress just 2. I think most other European leagues have similar regulations so that's why NHL teams are struggling to find spots for their prospects. If there's no AHL season, this could lead to problems.

Really? Because 41P/63GP in the WHL in his 18YR old season wasn't very impressive for an offensive D with defensive issues.
He is a project, but yes I certainly think his physical game and booming shot is better on small ice. He projects like a Subban-lite type of player. And yeah I get that your incorrectly think the pick was a waste. He was one of the best players at dev camp right away after being drafted. I have decent hopes for him as a 2nd or 3rd RD one day
