Wolanin has been with team in photoshoots etc. Would be pretty odd if he is not playing tomorrow. Maybe they got Johnson and Cole.

But even if they got say Johnson and Cole, they wouldn't have to drop Wolanin as they still have 2 roster spots open.

The Primeau thing would make sense if say Bishop wanted to play as they can't roster 4 goalies. But does he want to play? And would Drury guarantee him the starter role to start which was probably already promised to some extent to Schneider as @Nexon points out?

It's just..odd. My guess is it's an IIHF paperwork issue as the registration process was today and Wolanin/Primeau will be rostered shortly. But it is weird coincidence that it's the two guys you'd likely scratch if more than 2 reserves were on the way and we needed more spots.

It’s weird, I really thought goalies situation is closed, especially when they added Primeau when they could still wait for better option, Bishop has played 46 games this season + PO. normally he had more than 60 + PO, so maybe he just feels like playing more hockey this year and made a late call to join the squad, especially when he saw this years names, but then again one would think it shall motivate vast majority of available players. Please god, tell me we are right because Schneider is not someone I would gladly lean on.

At this WC Patrick Kane has realistic chance to become : All time TPS for USA at World's, all time asist leader for USA at Worlds and little thougher, all time goal scorer for USA. He needs 9 to equal Gambucci.

I would have to imagine any help would have been announced already...not seeing any news at all might mean this is what we have. Waiting on Bishop is obviously the smart play, but like was mentioned Schneider is here because he was likely promised the net/his to lose.

With the second round done and over, I thought we had Bonino announced last year right away as help..can't remember if he missed any games to be honest.

Yep, I guess it’s easier to get loyal guy like Bonino and big fish like Jones. I think we probably overreacted (it was nice to dream like that though ) , USAH just give it a try what if Bishop wants to play. Most likely he won’t so they will easily fill the roster with Primeau kid. I think they calculated somebody comes to fill other positions.

Even with Primeau?

I guess. Nothing about the Wolanin thing makes sense beyond a paperwork issue as it's not like they should be afraid to roster him because they'd still have 2 skater spots open and it seems pretty likely we're not getting any reinforcements, let alone 3.

With Primeau, there was at least the chance that maybe Bishop wanted to play and thus they didn't want to roster Primeau as then we'd be full on goalies. But the Bishop thing was always a long shot and there's been no news, so I highly doubt it's that.

It'd be helpful if there was any media coverage on this tournament from American sports journalists.

Slow start as Slovakia was jumping but not really unexpected playing the home team to start the tournament. If the puck stayed flat on that early Gaudreau to DeBrincat feed it would have been huge to take the sails out of the crowd. Team got better as towards the end of the period.

Suter/Larkin with some poor communication on the Slovakian goal as they both converged on the same guy but Schneider has to cover that puck. He had poor rebound control against Germany, so not a great sign to see it continue here.

Larkin has been really quiet thus far through the exhibition and this first period, which is odd as he's always gangbusters for Team USA. We need him to turn it around and I'm sure he will.

Skjei is really struggling with turnovers and was a liability out there.

Eichel is still flying. Fox is doing a great job holding the offensive blue line.

We always seem to struggle vs the Slovaks. I feel like them and the Finns are our cryptonite teams.

That said on the plus side hopefully this smacks us upside the head that this tournament won’t be a cakewalk

Awful, awful period. That's the difference between a team that's been in training camp forever versus a team that just formed. It's so telling how prepared one team is and how another team is still trying to figure things out. The Slovaks are playing in unison and our guys are all doing different things. Our defensemen in particular need to move the puck a hell of a lot faster, especially Skjei and Hanifin, as they keep turning it over and it's killing any chance at momentum.

Let's see if Blashill is going to shorten the bench here in the 3rd.

Whole team has been horrible but specially defence and Schneider just have to be much much better. I also don't understand why Vatrano is sitting. Blashill favour his trusted soldier and then sniper like Vatrano is sitting. Also when you look our defense i think Wolanin should be there. Least they could rotate more and i also think Wolanin would do much better than some guys who plays today. My honest opinion is that Demko have to pull John Gibson perfomance in this tournament. Schneider is not good enough for gold ATM. Third goal was not his fault alone but it was really soft IMO. Also in first and second goals he should have done better.

Schneider has been by far their best player.

Damn! For once it actually looks like you muricans are going to be(one of the 3) favorites to win it all. Very good roster even by NHL standards

This isn't a team right now. They have no discernible breakout, everyone is lost in the defensive zone, and no one is on the same page. I don't know what Blashill and company have been preaching, but it hasn't landed thus far.

Schneider isn't why they're losing but he's not been good either. He's not tracking the puck at all (see goals 2,3,4) and his rebound control is awful (see goal 1). Hopefully they go with Demko next game and he steals the starter spot.

All the defensemen that declined have certainly hurt. It's never good when your two NCAA defensemen have been your best defensemen in a game.
