WC: 2019 US Roster Discussion

  • Xenforo Cloud will be upgrading us to version 2.3.5 on March 3rd at 12 AM GMT. This version has increased stability and fixes several bugs. We expect downtime for the duration of the update. Fox seems to have a way bigger question mark, though, in that he's both smaller and an unimpressive skater. It's pretty uncommon to get an impact NHLer/high end pro out of a guy who lacks both size and high end skating ability.

His IQ is crazy high though. One of the smartest young dmen in the game and is great at transition. I like how he insists on opening lanes rather than chip it off the boards/glass. Great at creating space as well and never really had a problem forecheckers. Very smart dman but tools aren’t great
 
Seth Jones on whether he's going to the World Championships (exchange starts at 3:29):

"I don't think so. Not at the moment. I had a couple texts yesterday, couple calls. I'm just <not sure exactly on the word - stressed?> right now but we'll see."

Does anyone else hear "stressed" there?

Nevertheless, hugely disappointing. He left open the possibility, so hopefully he changes his mind, but he's healthy, has a contract, and hasn't played in the last 5 tournaments despite being available. While we're icing our best roster likely ever, we still have too many superstars that seemingly don't care.

The most frustrating part is right before this exchange, he's talking about wanting to get better over summer but that "some things are just hard to do in the summer because it's more game-like stuff that you always look at, whether it's decision making or being quicker at certain aspects." Gee, Seth, you could possibly have 10 games here in 2 weeks to work on those game-like things.

On a side note, Atkinson wasn't asked about the tournament in his exit interview.

Colorado out. They really need Erik Johnson to play if Jones doesn't change his mind. EJ hasn't played here since 2013 but maybe he'll be willing to reunite with his old buddies Kane and JVR?

Ian Cole also available but we don't need LHD and he's never played here.

Compher would be a decent but unnecessary addition, plus he's an RFA. No thanks to Colin Wilson.

I think they will be lucky to bring anybody now, I just highly doubt EJ will play here after long season and in his 30 ties, still quite sure nobody else comes. I think we exaggerated it this year given which names said yes, still pretty hard to bring superstar players when vast majority of them are not interested and never gonna be.

It is also fact that after every round it is harder and harder to get players come. Still disappointing if Jones declined but i am not suprised. I dont expect Atkinson either. Tough loss and new family etc. Foligno would be nice veteran addition but not really needed. Pretty much only player i would add right now is Erik Johnson. Maybe JvR and Kane can help Drury with that. I dont think there is no reason to sit anyone from this team if Avs forwards are only availavable players right now. (Wilson, Compher, Nieto)

I know it's not going to happened ,but I like to see line Caulfield-Hughes-Larkin Line.

if this team wins the Gold, I think just like in Field of Dreams we all will just vanish away as our pain will have been taken away!! there are a few that have been posting on here for over a decade in this thread, I am afraid that if that day comes our purpose on here will be over lol.

Bonney and Rabid Ranger are OG posters on here since the beginning, we have been lucky to have them this entire time.

In the lockerroom before the Game 7 they showed EJ in a sling so not sure he's bang up or not. However, whatever the case is let me tell you that you don't want this seasons version of Erik Johnson.

EJ has been downhill ride lately but he would still be good addition for this team. Only one RHD and overall defence is my biggest concern. One Erik Johnson is not totally fix it but least he would improve it.

Thanks, that's very nice of you to say. International hockey is definitely what keeps me here. It's a fun little community we have.

Interesting. Did USAH possibly hook some big fish? I doubt it as they've been declining and USAH never backs off committed players but it's odd that they'd not register these two players, especially Wolanin as they still had 2 skater roles open.

It would be huge if they actually hooked Bishop! Did Schneider come after 10 years to play backup role or Demko third again? Not likely, but anything can happen both Drury and Blashill said they want to win this thing, not just enjoy and I believe them. Probably they are hoping to convince some better guys still considering, they definitely can bring somebody like Bonino or Foligno or hell even Atkinson, I don’t believe they will convince 2 much better defenceman than Wolanin, hopefully at least 1 great one. I can see Cole here, perhaps Leddy and Mayfield.

You are right, it’s strange but Drury in charge has different approach this year, so who knows.
