Nothing positive to take from that one.

Blashill needs to work on the breakout and defensive zone coverage in practice. That's it. If he's working on anything else, I'm not sure what he's watching.

Hopefully a wakeup call for the team.

Blashill was also terrible in this game. If your lines suck then you maybe should try something different. I dont want to see Skjei-Hanifin pair ever again. Vatrano should play and Larkin line should be broken for next game. I am not too worried because team just wasn't ready for this game. Slovaks was hosts and more than ready when US team still try to put things together. Schneider least took some big saves but this perfomance is not even close what team needs from him.

takes some time to get going here, and starting off against the home team does no favors, but that was not a good showing. WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY too many passes, shots not taken/possible chances missed. they need to get a killer instinct going, get everything on net vs inferior net minders. looked too cute out there, everyone trying to feed their buddy. Keller particularly passed on a number of chances.

Kane was hustling, he has games like this where every sauce doesn't go his way and it looks like he isn't trying, but he is..when those passes start clicking watch out.

Vatrano did a great job holding the door open for his mates, come on Blashill play the f***ing kid over Glendening..

they do need to work on getting in the zone and STAYING IN THE ZONE. very little repeat chances, with such a big ice surface it felt like the Slovaks had it down to a 12x12 area. this team will get better/more comfortable, but we have to get better at staying in the zone and less finesse sauce passes, just dump the damn puck in and use your strength and skill to win battles here.

I did like Jack Hughes out there, he was noticeable in the right ways. Hughes and Fox just on the tip of their skill, so much promise there. We desperately need another top RD here, that is evident..Hanifin and Martinez playing their off D is not easy to do nor should be asked of them this entire tourney.

Schneider was meh, but no way we should have gotten outshot here, 100% on the entire team.

also looks like Johnny Hockey will be frustrated with the refs yet again here..

Is that even possible at all now, WC has already started, not sure if we got any reinforcements during tourney last years.

Possible, sure, but it's not going to happen at this point unless there's some miracle.

While true that we need RHD, it's also not the biggest issue. We look like a team at the start of training camp, which is problematic in a short tournament. It's the same hurdle for Team Canada. We're playing teams that have been in training for this tournament for many weeks at minimum and in many cases have played more exhibitions (let alone practices) than our team has even been together in days.

If the team doesn't gel quickly, it wouldn't matter if we had Seth Jones or any of the other RHD that turned down the opportunity.

Off topic but if I purchase NHL.tv for a month will I get to watch the World Championship games they show on NHL Network?

Terrible performance all around for the most part, but I take solace as a Rangers fan in Fox's play. :P

Ryan should play in the middle. I would like to see something like this tomorrow.

DeBrincat-Eichel-Kane
JvR-Hughes-Keller
Gaudreau-Larkin-Vatrano
White-Ryan-Kreider
Glendening

or

JvR-Hughes-Kane
DeBrincat-Eichel-Keller
Gaudreau-Larkin-Kreider
Vatrano-Ryan-White
Glendening

Fourth line could do something with this combo. Ryan can play with right guys.

Suter-Martinez
Hughes-Fox
Hanifin-Wolanin
Skjei

Wolanin should play tomorrow and hopefully he can play right side. Hanifin could play left side with these pairings.

Demko should start in goal.

Suter Martinez is horrible pairing, they cannot play together. Cory Schneider should be moved to 3rd position, I believe even Primeau would not have been worse.

Best players of this team at the moment are Hughes, Fox (biggest surprise for me since he plays like a guy already in NHL for seasons, happy he is here).

What my head cannot understand is Vatrano, young player with terrific scoring ability and he doesn’t get to play. This one is on Blashill really.
And Eichel, but he cannot be only one playing in his line.
My conclusion is that if older players gonna take it the way they are now, they bring Caufield here, guy will show enthusiasm at least and will probably play better than most since he has played on big ice this year.

Maybe they have to broke Hughes-Fox pair. That said Huges-Martinez is not sound great either.

I'm a bit surprised they could only muster one goal. That said, these are trap games for NA teams. Big ice, hostile atmosphere, lack of practice time together, etc. Let's also not discount Slovakia was a a good opponent. All you can do is Blashill and co learn and adapt.
