When was the last time the President's Trophy winner got swept in round 1, because it looks like a legit possibility. I mean, CBJ did go "all-in" for the playoffs, so they have a lot more firepower now than they had most of the season, but Tampa looks totally lost.

Would be a first. Chicago two years ago was the best in the West but Washington was the Presidents Trophy winner.

Kind of reminds me of what people were saying about Carolina after the 1st 2 games of the playoffs in 05-06

Well, if Tampa's got a Ward hidden up their sleeve, they've got a little over a period to pull him out.

It's just a bit surprising to see the complete lack of response from Tampa. Game 1 was a shock to everyone, but I figured they'd set things straight in Game 2. But they were thrashed, so you had to assume that SOME kind of pulse would show up to prevent them from going down 3-0.

But with how they're playing tonight, they might be lucky to hit 20 shots.

EDIT: Just saw that Tampa has ZERO high danger shot attempts.

And this friends, is why you want to make the playoffs even if you're going up against the best team in the league in round 1. Nothing is guaranteed.

Exactly. The talent in this league is too evenly matched. NBA playoffs it is not. Every team has a legit shot if they get in.

Pulock, Mayfield, Pelech abd Toews are amazing group to build around. Maybe it's Teotz effect but that group is amongs the very best right now.

See, this is the difference between defense and defensemen. Defense isn't about defensemen. There is absolutely *nothing* special about Pulock, Mayfield, Pelech and Toews. I'd take Slavin, Pesce, de Haan, Hamilton over them 100 times out of 100. The Islanders are elite defensively because all 18 skaters are 100 percent dedicated to making the smart, safe play at both blue lines, staying with their checks in the defensive zone, and competing for pucks all over the ice. They give up *nothing* and counter ruthlessly.

There is nothing separating us from the Islanders, talent-wise. The difference is in the commitment to playing the game the right way and limiting mistakes, sometimes even to zero. We do a decent job of this, and that's why we're in the playoffs, but virtually every goal we allow can be traced back to one poor decision that the Islanders just do not make.

Our guys play for each other, and they work their tails off, but we just have a handful of brain farts every game. We're not good enough for that.
