Ferland is a good player, but he's not the physical beast that hit us in our last playoff series.

Virtanen would be a physical beast if the officials would let him take runs at players without being assessed at least a charging minor. Put Jake with EP for the whole season and he’ll put up numbers like Ferland did when he was put with his team’s best forwards. Not saying Ferland is awful but rather like you, a good complementary player. Nobody to break the bank over.

The surprising thing is that Phanuef's annual salary replacement value is actually really low, so the Kings aren't actually saving much. I think Jonathan Willis, or someone at the Athletic, crunched the numbers and L.A. only really saves around $1M AAV annual buying out Phanuef.

He was viewed as a pretty unlikely buyout candidate since the Kings don't actually benefit that much financially doing it, but I guess they just wanted to turn the page.
