These guys spend years... Literally, years scouting some of these kids. It’s draft day. The excitement. Scouts whispering in the GM’s ears.

It’s tough to part with some of these prospects. The entire league is looking to get younger. Cheaper. Faster.

Gorton went out swinging like he’s done the last few drafts. Can’t fault the other GM’s for standing pat. If the situation was reversed, I would have freaked out if we passed up on a kid like Krebs Or Newhook for a 29 year old pending UFA.

That's all good and well and it might be possible if everything breaks right but I still firmly believe the year after is where they really truly want to get things going for a playoff push. the moves we made the first goal was in long term thinking not for short term gains. We have a lot of holes and a lot of question marks. Shoddy left side of defense. Older Hank and Geo is still unproven as a #1.

I hear ya and your not wrong that we still have question marks to address and we will. But have you looked at our competition for those final 3-4 playoff spots? I have and they have as many if not more questions than we do.

PENS are getting older and showing warts. Sure they have Sid and Geno...always helps. Their defense is a seive tho.
JACKETS are going to lose Panarin and Bob. I'm sure they won't tank but they certainly have bigtime question marks
CANES are fun team. Who's in goal for them btw? Mzarek? McHilleney? Serious question marks
ISLES? Who other than Barzal keeps you up at night? Quinn? Not saying they stink but they have some major ??'s
FLYERS? Huh? Question marks all over the place
DEVILS? Love Hughes but questions all over the place

Only one team in our division...the Caps are clearly head and shoulders above us IMO.

And in Atlantic after the playoff locks of Bruins, Lightning and Leafs, we have the Red Wings, Canadians, Panthers, Sabres and Senators. Who of those 5 teams would you take over the Rangers? Only one that gives me pause is the Panthers now that they have Spencer Knight and if they get Panarin. But those others, I'd take my chances for sure.

Bottom line our competition isn't that good other than a 4-5 teams. So there is definitely a bigtime opportunity for us to sneak into the playoffs this upcoming year. And I firmly believe that JD and Gorton see the same opportunity as well as it would be great for the players confidence and build that winning culture for the Rangers to be in a playoff chase and than make it.

I hear ya. But after a decade or so of promising kids “you can’t pass on” and not a lot of results, there comes a point where maybe the solution isn’t just kids and the hopes we hang on them.

lmfao they gave away a first pair dman and solid bottom 6 forward for a month of Hayes and Pionk. I wouldnt do Lemieux for Pionk straight up.

Why are some Ranger fans being so biased about the actual context of these trades?

They gave away their first pair d-man? You mean a player with only 1 year remaining on his contract who already let them know he wasn't interested in re-signing there? Does that context not matter or should we just leave that out to make it sound better for us?

They traded him for a 1st round draft pick... It doesn't make any difference that it was their own pick - once that pick had changed hands it was the Rangers 1st round pick - and still an asset... Just because it used to be their pick doesn't make any difference...

The question with Tomasino for me is the hands and ability for the head to keep up with the feet at the higher levels.
Sure, fair enough, yet it was not just me, he was ranked pretty highly in most of the TSN mocks/rankings as well as in most others

My take on Kreider has always been the draft slot # should not have mattered, more so the prospect who they could have taken returned more than whatever Kreider's value will be post this draft until next deadline.

All the same, forget the BS you had to endure tonight, you are a good poster, source, and I think you and I in real life would get along really well for what it's worth.
