Well, we always have our favorites, so every year when we miss them we're disappointed.

I am disappointed in the GMs, though. Everyone's willing to be bold in their *picks*, and yet not moves. As if they'd rather be 100% wrong about a player than come off as a 45-55 loser to another team.

You tend to see more trades in the drafts of other sports, where shockingly enough, about 65% of the general managers qualifications are not "played the game."

You see I kind of disagree a bit with you on this. Though there might not be alot of pressure to make the playoffs this upcoming season, I think alot of these moves the Rangers are making are all geared for us to not only continue the rebuild but to also create a winning environment and that means making a playoff run.

I would think that JD and Gorton have said to Quinn, we are going to give you the best possible lineup we can at this point in time and it should be good enough if enough things go according to plan the team could get one of those last seeds.

Don't forget other than the Caps and maybe the Pens but even they are vulnerable as they have some serious warts that have appeared recently in the Metro and the Lightning, Bruins and Leafs in the Atlantic, there are no other teams I see that I can say "yup...that team is a lock for the playoffs" which leaves 3-4 spots available for the taking.

So yeah, I think the Rangers are going to head into the season thinking they could and should be in the playoff mix come late March/early April of 2020.
That's all good and well and it might be possible if everything breaks right but I still firmly believe the year after is where they really truly want to get things going for a playoff push. the moves we made the first goal was in long term thinking not for short term gains. We have a lot of holes and a lot of question marks. Shoddy left side of defense. Older Hank and Geo is still unproven as a #1.

NHL GMs are really f***ing pathetic compared to NBA/MLB GMs and some NFL ones (though there are some idiots there like Elway).

Not that Poulin is a bad pick but there's at least 10 other guys I would have taken before him--just a few forwards--Suzuki, Tomasino, Brink, Lavoie, Dorofeyev, Hoglander and maybe even Kaliyev, Beecher, McMichael and Pelletier.

I made a post on this a couple of months ago but from what I remember the number of NHL GMs that are former players is roughly equivalent to the number of NBA+MLB+NFL GMs.
