GDT: 2019 IIHF World Championships - Slovakia (Bratislava/Kosice) - May 10th to 26th

This meeting was in Jersey and they had a decision (Shero has been in Slovakia all tournament)

Edit: it could be hype but IDT it is.

What on earth makes you think you have a decision from watching this? This is a real NHL team with the first round pick. It is huge for their future. It's something you don't just get. They'll watch and see until the end.

Wouldn't be surprised if they're thinking about it but I'd bet they'll go back and review everything...again you don't make a decision solely based on one tournament and Hughes has been dominant up until this point.

If they do take Kakko...well, I feel pretty good that Hughes will be a great player and have just as much if not more of a positive impact for the Rangers.

Honestly...maybe this makes the Devils think "these guys are closer than we thought, maybe they're even at this point" but the inertia of Hughes being considered the first overall for so long will keep them still taking him 1st.

I think they only take Kakko if they're absolutely convinced that Kakko is and will be the better player. That will be the key thing and it's hard to make that determination after 1 short tournament.

Most teams have picked their 1st overall prior to May - these lists are assembled a long time prior to finding their actual draft position.

This isnt some decision GMs leave until draft day or even the beginning of June. Thats just unintelligent.

No matter how many times i’ve watched this video since it was posted, this was the first time I heard them talk about Hughes in this particular video. I guess as soon as I heard them talking about Kakko, I assumed that everything they were saying, including the pick decision, was about Kakko.

I need to calm my nerves and listen more carefully LOL.

Plus not to hate on Kakko at all but this meeting was probably a week or two prior to the WC (since Shero has been gone for quite some time now). Kakko’s absolute rockstar show this tournament probably doesnt play into the decision

I would hope so. I just can’t wait for June 21 to come and go already to get all this behind us.

Another source I found interesting is TSN

TSN talks like its been announced that Jack is going 1st haha. Ive seen 3-5 videos on TSN where they literally say ‘we know Hughes is going 1st overall’.

I do however firmly believe Shero had his decision the moment we won the draft lottery. Likely decided before that. And thats normal for a pick that only has a few players in the running for. These GMs have scouting lists for over a year before the draft. Its not like they just saw Jack and Kakko once they won the lottery.

I just think Jacks body of work in juniors is too great. No player ever in USHL history over 1.41 ppg and Jack broke 2.0

Well we wanted someone who can create on his own. Someone who can do damage without having someone else create for him. From this tournament Kakko defines that. I know he wasn't blazing by Miro Heiskanen on that goal but still. I just don't see what else he can be doing better in this tournament???
