True, but it seemed like Jet management then really didn't like the depth after Trubisky. I remember around that time that they were inclined to trade up. But maybe they had Jamal way higher on their list. Who really knows, honestly?

Hindsight, Jets took a phenomenal player and they shouldn't be asking the "what if's" for taking someone else.
The Jets gave Mahomes a private workout.

:dunno:

I can't tell ya, man.

I mean they didn't pick him so maybe they saw something that they didn't think was worthy of picking him instead of Jamal.
If mahomes makes the hof he won't be the first passed up by the Jets.
Ken obrien over dan Marino, al toon over Jerry rice, Blair Thomas over emit Smith, Kyle Brady over Warren sapp,

From the way I see it, Jamal could be a HoF, too. I'd be fine with that. Way too early to tell, though.

Having great receivers doesn't hurt. But the Jets picked Sam Darnold without receivers (or an O-Line). When was the last season the Jets had where you looked back and thought "I'm glad this guy was our QB."

Probably Chad Pennington and even he wasn't all that great.

Super Bowl 42 on FOX 3PM!!!

I watched this the other day on YouTube. The Giants had so much luck during that game on offense, from the entire play of the Tyree catch to the fumbles that the Giants recovered... especially the one in Giants territory that they somehow recovered. That would have changed the game. And the rare stupid decision by Belichick going for it on 4th and 13 I think in the first half.

Also I wish the Giants defense or the defensive line could have somehow won the Super Bowl MVP collectively. Even though they faded and Eli shined at the end (although they were big again during the Patriots' last drive), they are the only reason the game was even close.

Overall, great game but Super Bowl 25 is still more beautiful to watch IMO.

I’ll always remember Asante Samuel dropping an easy interception late in the game that probably would have sealed it. The Giants got extraordinary lucky in that Super Bowl and yes I’m jealous.

That play has been so overplayed. He barely got his fingertips on it. That was not an easy play to make. It wasn't a drop in the traditional sense of the word.

Al Toon was a great pick, even with hindsight. He just had concussion problems. It wasn't egregious like the others, with the Jets luck, Toon would have set records with Montana or Young, had it been reversed. He was the best receiver the Jets ever had.

Rice was the best ever imo. Having great QBs didn't hurt.

Anyone ever run/participated in a NFL draft game something similar to below? Trying to get some feedback and polish the scoring on this.

Thinking of a taking a set of picks - say top 15. Friends buy in, pick the exact order of players.

For every player you have in your top 15 that is actually drafted in the top 15, you get 1 point.

For every pick you get exactly correct, you get 5 points.

I know Joe Burrow 1st overall is easier to nail than whoever the Jets draft 11th, but scoring would be equal across the boad for correct picks similar to NCAA brackets where picking a 1/16 upset is the same scoring as 8/9.

Thoughts ?

Speaking of underachieving WRs, there is a rumored trade of OBJ to Vikings for a 2nd and 5th round pick. If so I'll have to revise my initial reaction to the OBJ trade from negative to positive.

I loved Mahomes though obviously didn’t realize he’s be this good.

I thought Watson would bust. Risky style and I thought he turned it over too much.

I never really saw much of Trubisky but figured the “experts” were probably right.

I like Adams but the Jets were in QB purgatory. If you like a guy then you have to jump on them so I guess they weren’t sold.

Adams was still a good pick though I’m not crazy about safeties that’s high. I just don’t want anymore interior defensive linemen for awhile. They seem to go back to that well constantly. They’ve also found way too many guys with premium picks that turned out to have major character issues. They seem to mostly be gone - hopefully Quinnen Williams is legit - seems nice enough but he sounds a little simple. I have to wonder about the Jets past interview process.

Its rare to find a defensive player worth a top pick. IMHO
Football 1-5
1 QB
2 QB
3 OL
4 Offensive toys
5 Edge rush

Secondary and interior D is nothing but interchangeable parts

Thing is for the Giants, Simmons can provide some Edge rush with his athletic ability. He is versatile. Some have him ranked as the #1 LB and Safety. I think he is the best option with the 1st pick.

Best case scenario is they move back a few spots and he is still there. Then they take an OL with the later 1st rounder they acquire.

They arent filling all their holes with draft picks this year, at least I dont think they will be able to, and Simmons is going to be the best player on the board if they stay at 4. They need LB help as much as they need OL help, it has been a wasteland for years. Martinez and Connelly will help but Simmons can complete it.

Dont know much about individual prospects but if we cant trade down and young doesnt slip, it seems that Simmons is projected to be an elite player and much more of a sure thing than any of the tackles. Dont reach for a tackle and miss out on a game changer. Gettleman has said that hes interested in trading down though.

Mahomes wouldn't be Mahomes with the Jets rather than Andy Reid.

Unfortunately this is the truth. There is no way on gods green earth does Maholmes do even half the shit he’s done in KC had he been picked by the Jets coaching staff with the Jet weaponry compared to KC’s much more diverse and imaginative offense and crazy good skill position players plus one of the best Olines in the league.

For those of y’all who can go back to when Ken O’Brien was drafted by the Jets at 23 overall in 1983 and by doing so passed up Dan Marino who as we all know was chosen by the Dolphins at 27 and the rest is history.

I kind have wondered had the Jets drafted Marino instead of O’Brien would the Jets have been much better, would they have won a SB and would Marino still have been a HOF QB.

Me personally, tho Jets had some very solid teams back in the 80’s, I’m still not sure Marino would have done that much better than O’Brien did from a team standpoint nor do I think he would have made the HOF.

I know crazy to think that but hear me out. I really believe due to the Dolphins defenses being so epically bad which is the main reason they only got to the SB once in Marino’s 17 years, it forced Shula to do something he never had done before which was to basically abandon the run and become a passing team that could outscore you and win 38-35 types of games. So Shula drafted great speedy WR’s and built one of the great Olines in football to protect the immobile Marino. This strategy ended up being quite successful seeing tho Miami never won a SB, they were in the playoffs every year. The defense held them back tho.

And that’s what happened and Marino put up insane #’s . The Jets meanwhile had a much more balanced offense with solid WR’s(Toon, Walker,Schumer) and a couple of very good RB’s(McNeil,Hector), a great oline and they had one of the better defenses in the league.

You put all that together and switch QB’s and teams, I contend Marino never would have made the HOF as a a Jet whereas O’Brien who was very talented and had a gun for an arm and was very smart reading defenses, just might have been a borderline HOF had he played in Miami with that sick passing offense they had.

Same goes with Mahomes. Put him on Jets and he’s still good but not this other worldly player he’s become playing in the very QB friendly Andy Reed system.
