Doing a quick and dirty look at the standings, it's actually quite possible that Chase Young could end up a Giant next April. Every team likely to finish above them (Cincy, Washington, Miami, Jets?) will all go for QB's except for the Jets, whom should take Jeudy or another WR. Question is, do one of these teams leverage the Giants into trading up and still grab their QB of choice?
If Chase young falls to Jets theyll either take him or trade the spot.

Barkley is an extremely frustrating player. He cannot block. He refuses to initiate contact. He cannot adapt his game at all (he keeps dancing today when he needs to go forward). All the problems that some of us saw at PSU are rearing their ugly heads today.

Gettleman failed him by not molding the offensive line how Barkley needs it. But I expect more from a #2 draft pick. A lot more.

You were always going to expect a lot more from #2 pick when you spend it on a running back.

Yup. The Giants should have either taken a QB or trade down if they didn't like any of them. I'm pretty sure they could have gotten a good haul from a team that would want to jump the Jets for Darnold.

Saquon might be our generational RB but Ahmad Bradshaw was our generational blocker

It's crazy to think about how terrible this Giants roster looks right now. Even if they get Chance... they still need 2 tackles, any kind of impact linebackers, a #1 WR, apparently cornerbacks...

I freely admit I posted about how it made sense to let Jones grow behind this 0-line, but GODDAMN!! He can't be getting hit like this every game. Whether the line is to blame (GM) or the scheme and playcalling (coach and gm) something is soooooooo rotten with the giants right now.

People point out Saquon is getting bulldozed.... whatever is happening on offense, DEnds and linebackers are coming untouched off the edges. Saquon looked the worst we've seen him today, but he's having to regularly pick up full steam unblocked rushers.

Shurmer was a stupid hire based on this team's misguided belief that it was a temporarily displaced Super Bowl contender.

Betcher must be fired. The defense is an embarrassment.
And if the Giants dare to argue it's a personal issue, then Gettleman should be fired.

You just love hearing this kind of stuff, really fills you with confidence in the organization...

In regards to the Giants fill-in LT tonight, courtesy of Instant analysis: Where do the New York Giants go from here?

"The Giants claimed Smith on waivers Sept. 1. The 24-year-old said after the game that “at no point” since becoming a Giant had he prepared to play left tackle, other than doing individual work on his own. Smith said that with Nick Gates starting at right tackle he had prepped all week to be replace Gates at jumbo tight end and hand’t taken any live reps at left tackle since preseason with the Jets.
Smith said he didn’t know the coaches were even talking to him to enter the game when Solder got hurt."

Giants are going to have to choose between a stud edge rusher of stud tackle.
They need both. Badly.

Tough spot. They have a lot invested in Barkley/Jones. They need blockers.

Gettleman never trades down but if they can get a haul from a QB desperate team, I might take it. Build the OL.

It's hard to evaluate backfield talent when the O line cannot block and it's the only job the O line has to do. I don't care if its the first unit or the backups playing. They seriously need to figure out if they need to retire their cleats and find work elsewhere because its not working, there is no excuse for this consistent s hit play.

Is this actually still a thing after seeing Daniel Jones have more success than just about any QB in the 2018 draft class? The only one you can make a real argument for is Josh Allen, and he was never going to actually be the QB pick at 2 if they went QB anyway. Seems like they chose correctly to wait and wound up with a better QB for it (so far). Everyone is still young and things could change, but as of now, if there was a redraft from the last two draft classes, it'd probably be Murray and then either Allen or Jones at #2.

Uh, one can easily make the case for Darnold over Barkley. To me, the answer was Darnold/Allen or trade down.

Yet the moron thought Manning could still play.

Okay. And Darnold means no Jones, and Jones has been better. So what's the problem other than living in the past?

Except Jones has not really been better, but that's beside the point. You simply don't take an RB that high with how devalued the position is. Same reason that as good as Jamal Adams is, he shouldn't have been drafted that high either.

I don't know about that. I mean Jones has more weapons at WR than Darnold does but overall it seems Darnold does not have the effectiveness beyond 15-20 yards that Jones does. I still feel neither guy is going to be elite category NFL QB but they can both be pretty good like a Flacco or McNabb type but anyone who thinks Brady/Brees/Ben/Favre is walking through the door as one of these 2 I don't think its occurring.

I think Jones has been a bit better than Darnold.

Giants should have traded down. Bills really wanted to move up for a QB and they had multiple 1st rounders. Problem is, Gettleman never trades down. At the time I didn't want Barkley. I thought it was a win now pick. You know, lets try to get Eli as many weapons as possible so he can go out on top. I also think Gettleman may have underestimated how bad the OL was. You build your lines first before you start drafting/signing toys.
Through two drafts since becoming GM, he's drafted ONE meaningful O-Lineman.

We'll see. Maybe Darnold ends up not panning out, or he becomes like an Andy Dalton type QB, but almost no QB could succeed behind this Jets o-line. I wish this team had a 2009-2010 type offensive line.

Jones fumbling doesn’t bother me, but his lack of progress with it does. Fumbling isn’t a unique issue for a rookie QB, but you want to see SOME progress. It’s a shame too because he does everything else really well. The upside is there for him to be great.

They also have to protect him better. O-Line, pass rush, and linebackers has to be a priority this upcoming offseason.

Also, I think it’s clear that on top of running behind a terrible offensive line, Saquon just ain’t right right now. If he still hasn’t fully recovered from the high ankle sprain he should be sitting, because his playing has been a negative since he’s comeback, and his awful blocking contributed greatly to some of Jones’s fumbling.

It's definitely still way too early to be claiming whether Jones or Darnold is the pick.

And for me, personally, the jury is still out on Jones. My issues have, and continue to remain, around Gettleman's use of draft capital. He doesn't seem to care to try and maximize his assets at all. His draft philosophy seems to exist almost independent of his draft position. You wind up with the spot you get and you pick your favorite player if he's on the board when your turn comes up regardless of what any other teams seem to be doing. And why wouldn't you? You're Dave Gettleman, rightful heir to the Giants throne and smarter than every other guy in the room.

All signs for me point to a slow rebuild.

Slow rebuild in football is disastrous. By the time you need to pony up $ for your premium players you better hope to already be a contender cuz it's downhill from there based on past history. Winning on cheap contracts is all the rage in sports nowadays for good reason.

The Giants fan should be so grateful for the 2 SB's Eli and the D pulled out of their ass because we're in for years of disappointment it seems, confirmed by yesterday's Toilet Bowl.

Yes I'd rather have Jones than Darnold but that's with what I know now. Even if you don't take a quarterback, you can trade down. Jets gave up the #6 pick that ended up being Quenton Nelson and 3 2nd round picks for the #3 pick. For a team that has as many holes as this one does I would much rather have the package of picks than any running back, even one as talented as Saquon.

Hindsight's a killer. The Jets needed a QB but took a safety over Mahomes or Watson. Adams is a stud but those are possibly generational QBs.
