Man the thing about the Jets is that not only are they incompetent , they are also extremely unlucky. Thats a dangerous combination. Not only do they lose all the time, they do it in some of the most humiliating ways. I don't know what we did to deserve this team. I fear the curse will not truly be lifted off this god forsaken franchise until Namath is cold in the ground. For all the old timers out there, I hope that 69 Super Bowl win was a great experience because to me, it didn't seem worth it.

Eli is likely the best in this QB this team’s history, and yet, you could almost say there’s a bit of disappointment about his tenure. Only once did they make the playoffs in back-to-back seasons. The only years in which he won a playoff game were the Super Bowl seasons. He still made the same dumb mistakes he did when he entered the league. And, yet, we’re talking about a likely Hall of Famer. Just a strange career.

When the Rams pass us this season we will be bottom 10 this decade in winning percentage which is wild with a Super Bowl snuck in there too.

Eli era Giants were ultimately good and given me more than any of my other teams but goddamn were they weird too lol

Eli has a career 500 record in the regular season. Maybe he's being benched this week to prevent him from leaving with a losing record.

I'd LOVE TO BELIEVE management realized the Giants' defense is a dumpster fire that will not fix itself within this season. The one thing that does actually look competent is the offensive line.

Gettleman/Shurmer are cashing in the offensive line rebuild capital real early. And obviously the organization is hoping at least 3-4/5 of these guys will be around for the EXTREMELY important early seasons of Jones and Barkley's careers. They've seen enough to believe they won't get Jones killed trotting him out there. Let the offense grow behind a steady line with a veteran presence...

...while the defense hemorrhages points. A true disaster. It's like the other team's offense is playing against a practice squad. Our only positions with STARTER-LEVEL talent by their nature arguably impact a game the least - interior, non-pass rushing, Dline and cover cb's (although baker having a nightmare start to his career makes it that much worse). So at least Jones is going to get a loooooot of opportunities to see the field and run plays with this offense.

I'd guess this upcoming draft will be "The One Where Gettleman Fixes the Defense." Ah, yes, Ol' Getts chose to reach for a QB in the defense heavy draft while now almost assuredly having their pick of either Tua, Herbert, Hurts et al... in this QB friendly draft.

If they actually let Eli go and don't sign him as something dumb like a vet backup, I think they'll have enough money to sign someone who can make an impact on defense. (would be great if we could get Ogletree out of here...) That, combined with using a combination of 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th round picks on the defense, would kinda signal the general end of the 3 year plan of the Gettleman rebuild - get a stud rb, a stud qb and then a stud... de? lb? and go to work.

It also makes sense they allegedly got rid of "personalities" likely to make what's going to be an ugly situation this season potentially that much worse. Like it or night the media attention went with Beckham to Cleveland. The Giants are just going to try their best to suck in peace I guess.

And writing this, I kinda convinced myself it's not the worst plan, but it might get real bad this year. And SO MUCH is hinging on Daniel Jones being the one. Next season's then the true make or break year for all of Jones, Shurmur, and Gettleman. If you're ownership you really can't cut bait with any of them until then. They had to have signed off on the teardown and rebuild. But if this doesn't work out, and the franchise manages to completely waste the first 3+ years of Saquon's career...

I'm really happy with this move. I have no idea why Eli was here to begin with but what's done is done. Very happy to see this new chapter of Giants football. Hopefully, it's a successful one.

This season is a loss, why put in a promising young QB with NO team talent only to watch Jones struggle. It seems more like a desperation move by management to offer an excuse for another losing season instead of finding talent to compete. What is on the table, one winning season in the last 6-7 years? You win with D.

If Gettleman and Shurmur are secure in their jobs, I don't think the QB change happens. Which makes this more frustrating.

It just reeks of desperation. Shepherd is coming back from a concussion, and Tate is still suspended for another 2 games. Why are they putting this kid in a position to fail? Eli was playing like trash, but the WRs were dropping balls and not getting ANY separation. Jones isn't going to magically imbue starting WR talent on the likes of Fowler and Latimer.

Based upon what Shurmur has said, it sounds like if it was up to him, Jones would have been the starter opening day. Jones’ athleticism allows Shurmur to fully implement his playbook. The trend in the league is that highly-drafted QBs almost always start in their first season. The mistake was ever bringing Manning back, and that’s on Mara and, to a lesser extent, Gettleman. I don’t see this as being desperate, but rather, the current state of today’s NFL.

I also think this is a really bad game to start him in. Very tough stadium to play in, maybe 4th behind KC GB Seattle and chances are the Bucs with their OC and usual style offensively are gonna put up like 40-50 points here. At the same time this is a winnable game if Winston gets too carried away knowing he’s facing a bad team. I could see him throwing like 5 picks if he’s not sharp because he’s tended to be undisciplined when he faces bad defenses. His best games often come when he’s forced to be more conservative against better teams

I'm not worried about Jones losing. I'm worried about his development.

We see it all the time with prospects. When you're thrust into a situation you're not prepared for, you stop progressing. You revert to bad habits and learn to do the minimum needed to keep your head above water.

I hope I'm wrong. I would happily eat crow if Jones is able to develop while starting. I just think it's an unnecessary risk, and one taken not through careful contemplation, but as a byproduct of desperation.

This team and its management is a nightmare. There was really never going to be a comfortable spot for Jones to slip in.

If he can't handle it then he was never going to survive in this league anyway.

Francesa is a clown. I used to be a long time listener and was excited when he came back, but I haven't listened much since his retirement return.
Multiple coaches, teams and players have canceled their weekly spots on his show. Shurmer is just the latest. Only the baseball managers go on his show weekly.
He's had a falling out with the Giants and was just using Shurmer to rip the organization. He's whinging cause they no longer give him much access.
This goes back to him being angry cause Gettleman didn't tell him who he was drafting. Like an NFL GM is going to tell a loud mouth radio sports host. And I don't even think Gettleman had that kind of relationship (like Francesa did with Parcells) with him like that, to give him that kind of info. So Mike goes on the radio and calls Gettleman "a liar".

Can't blame shurmur.

Was listening to his show driving to MetLife Monday Night and he was on the show and Mike literally called the team and organization 'abominable' a bunch of times. shurmur tried giving the most non-cliche, cliche answers he could but Mike kept hammering him. he was getting fed up with it after a while, could hear it in his voice.

The Giants QBs are a guy who will turn 39 January 3rd, the 59th best rookie in the draft according to Scouts Inc, and a guy who played Division III football. Good job, GM.

Either AB is the dumbest, stupidest and most despicable human being I've heard about in a very long time or he has some major mental problems from too many hard hits to the head?

I'm going to vote for both as it's a truly astonishing fall from grace for a guy who had the world by the balls and now he's left pretty much a pariah.

I doubt very highly any other team will touch him this year no matter how desperate they might be. And the f***ing Patriots...f*** them. Serves them right they look like they have egg on their face as it was shameful in the first place that they even signed the nutcase.

Only thing better than how shitty the Patriots look in all this is if the Jets beat them in an upset that just might be the biggest in NFL history if they could pull it off. Heck, I just want to see the arrogant f***s from New England at least sweat it out on Sunday to the 24 point underdog Jets. God do I hate that team...arggggg
