OT: 2019 Football Thread: Part II – Free Agency and The Draft

If he is he hasn't shown it yet. Sanchez wasn't good but he wasn't awful and Rex and Woody screwed him. Darnold hasn't shown he's good just yet.

This Giants team...this coaching staff...the defense. It is some of the worst i have seen across football in my entire life sans the Browns. Gettleman, Shurmur, and especially fat ass Betcher need to go. The defense is worse than college level at this point. Whether the 3-4 system works is irrelevant. Either we dont have the coach to teach it (very likely) or we dont have the personnel to play in it. The whole staff needs to be fired for what we have witnessed in back to back weeks. This is completely inexcusable. I will go back to that we have ZERO pass rush. We could have drafted a pass rusher but instead we used our #6 overall pick on a QB in a weak QB class. WEAK QB class.

I think the most frustrating portion of today was watching this completely moronic coaching staff roll Deandre Baker out there drive after drive. He clearly could not hack it. And yet they made no change. No change. It shows how stupid of a human being Shurmur is and should not be coaching at this level.

And finally, whatever they were doing was not working. They should have switched to a press coverage with their secondary. Try something different. See if the athleticism and talent can takeover. But no. We watched repeated 3rd and Long’s where Receivers were WIDE OPEN. WIDE OPEN. f*** this team. f*** Shurmur. f*** the Mara’s for being a bunch of p***yes and not hiring the right people to begin with while also being p***yes and not firing these BUMS to correct the mistake.

Being better than Sanchez isn't a high bar. Sure he can be good but he hasn't proven it yet. He has to make everyone else better because right now the offense is anemic. Time will tell how much his week 1 performance was impacted by his having mono (why would he play if he was sick?).

I’m sorry and I’m not sorry. This is just how bad it is right now as a Giants fan. Anyone can say ‘oh well at least you won a couple super bowls’....but that was back in 2011. Its been 8 years. Should we be ok with this absolute disaster? OBJ, for all his warts, wasted. Eli has had no line during his final years. He had one this year, somewhat, but it seems too late with his arm fading. The defense is really that bad. Its that bad. I cant help but be furious watching it.

I don't mind the Jones pick if the team truly believes in him. I can't shit on getting your "guy" and he does look good. However, why did we not take a pass rusher with our other pick(s) in the first round? I think it will become clearer and clearer that taking a relatively "meh" nose tackle at 17 was a bad move.

But Manning is so God damn bad that we have to assume that Engram won’t be catching balls past 10 yards from the LOS. So you have to rely on him being a pure YAC guy.

Thanks, I'll keep him then, had a bomb week 1. I have Hockenson on the bench, so I have an option. Yeah from the past posts I read it looks the Giants are in shambles. May a QB change have a positive impact? Manning is so weird, like just on the verge of startable. They need a change.

Broncos with still too many holes in the team. Browns totally over-hyped to start the season lol, should have seen that coming a mile away.

Too sad it might turn out to be another NE Death Star dominated season. Only KC can maaybe stop them, I fear. And that just sucks too, only having like one team being capable of stopping them.

Eli had some very good years between 2007-2011 and then again 2016. Don't hate. Look, not every team wins a Championship. Most end up like the late 90s/early 2000s Ottawa Senators and are very good regular season teams but don't go all the way. The Capitals were a team like that until they had a magical playoff run with one of their less memorable on paper squads. Giants got two. Don't tell me you wouldn't sign up for that 11/10 times.

Rangers of this decade were very good but didn't go all the way. If this next core with Kaako/Kravstov/Fox/Chytil/K'Andre/etc. don't accomplish what the Rangers of this decade did with the Division Banners/President's Trophy but have that one magical run and win a Cup, you take that 11/10 times.

Eli was most certainly not good in 2016. 2015, he was pretty good and decent in 2012. But 2016 it was all a fluke year from the D.

Giants could have drafted a pass rusher at #6 and still drafted Jones at 17 if they really wanted him that badly. Mismanagement there.

Of course not. Engram isn't ranked in the top 5 of all TE's because of Eli or Jones or whoever is the Giant QB. He's just uber talented when he's on the field and he'll make plays no matter who is throwing him the rock. He's pretty much a big WR portraying a TE.

All kidding aside, this is going to go one of two ways:

Either Jets play out of their minds, Siemian pulls a Sanchez circa 2010 and 2011 and goes into game manager beast mode. Bell,Montgomery run all over the Browns and the defense does just enough contain Baker, OBJ and Chubb from totally going off to where Jets eek out a 21-17 nail biter and for one week everything will be OK in Jet Nation.

Or Jets lose 41-3 and listening to Joe Beningno and Evan Roberts epically rant tomorrow at 10 on WFAN will make my biz road trip to Pittsburgh go that much faster....lol

Allen is a beast, and he’s going to get better. Bills are going to be a tough out this season. They’ll be right there for that final wild card spot in the AFC.
