Its a common play for defencemen since Lidstrom started doing it. The point shot, bank off the backboards to a forward really confuses the goalie who expects the shot to be on net. In saying that even if he didnt mean to do it your criticism of Broberg was that he had a weak shot. Thats not what the video shows, he has a half decent shot, just not accurate if he wasnt going for the backboard play.
It's also common for a D with bad accuracy to miss the net and hit the boards.

True, but usually the puck doesnt bounce directly to the front of the net. That seemed like a set PP play they worked on in practice.

Yeah, im sure he told the boards where to put the puck.

If that's a set play, im sure you'll be able to find more of them.

Anyone think there is a chance Moritz Seider is the second defenceman taken? Or can I get some opinions?

I am no expert but he seems intriguing.

I wouldn’t be surprised at all. Heck of a skater, great in his own zone, dynamite breakout pass and a sneaky variety of shots. Size, physicality and some snarl included. Pretty much the ideal modern blueliner. I’d prefer him over Broberg, Soderstrom or York. If Holland called his name on Friday, I’d be one of the very few cool with that call.

You can believe what you want but some dmen intentionally miss the net trying to bank a rebound to a teammate. It may be an inaccurate shot to and good luck that it bounced right to the forward, but Im not sure it was an accident. If I could talk to him or the coach Id know pretty quick.

I have no idea whether it was intentional or not.

But it's ridiculous when you're in here saying you're 99% sure it was intentional when you have no clue about the play, just doing that to try and prop up your ideal pick.

If Nurse made that shot you would be rambling on about how it was such a fluke.

I like Boldy but realistically he’s the 5th most talented forward on his team. I’m not high on him at 8 either.

Hughes
Zegras
Turcotte
Boldy/Caufield

4th or 5th. Boldy has crazy upside, and a high floor as well. He's exactly what the team needs. Why aren't you high on him?

Because like I said I think he’s the 5th most talented player on his team. He’s a 10-14 guy not a guy I look at 8th. I don’t see his upside being as high as others in our range.

Don't look at the team. If anything the talent on the team is limiting is TOI and pp time. He generally plays on the 3rd line.

He has the making of a top line winger, who might be able to play center. He used to be a center, but because of Zegras/Hughes/Turcotte he played on the wing. He's a very similar player to Draisaitl. Great vision, hands, and solid shot as well. Both not great skaters. I really hope we get him.

Who in our range has a higher upside?

So would I. I just hope Yamamoto hasn't scared them off from drafting a small player in the 1st round.

They're completely different players. Their size is the only similarity. And Yams just finished his 1st professional season. Top prospects like Cody Glass, Owen Tippet, and Nick Suzuki haven't played a game in the AHL or NHL. Just give him time. I can almost guarantee that by 2020-21 Yams will be in the NHL and kicking.

It was said they have taken Cozens and Broberg out for dinner. Good chance on of those fellas will be there at 8th. I live in NS and don't have much on the WHL players. I spoke to one fella on here and he said that Cozens has lots of speed.
Thoughts?

He is fast, and has a good shot, but his playmaking and vision in the offensive zone aren't good at all. He skates himself into trouble all the time, and his hands aren't nearly good enough to get him more space. His release can also be a bit slow, as well.

That said, while I would be slightly disappointed if we get Cozens, I can still see him panning out as a top-6 winger. He's a right shot, which would work well on the pp. But at #8, we can do quite a bit better.

I would definitely prefer Cozens over Broberg and Podkolzin.

Love the list. Very close to mine. I'd love some feedback. Here's mine:

1. Hughes
2. Kakko
3. Byram
4. Turcotte
5. Cozens
6. Dach
7. Zegras
8. Krebs
9. Boldy
10. Podkolzin
11. Newhook
12. Caufield
13. York
14. Heinola
15. Broberg
16. Seider
17. Kaliyev
18. Lavoie
19. Suzuki
20. Tomasino
21. Soderstrom
22. Knight
23. Harley
24. Rees
25. McMichael
26. Dorofeyev
27. Afanasyev
28. Bjornfot
29. Poulin
30. Holmstrom
31. Johnson

#10 could be a very interesting pick. Seen some highlites of him and he looks really good. I think some teams will be scared of the Russian factor for sure. He might not even come over for 2 years. This mirrors the Kuznetsov player in Washington, but he has sure worked out.
I'm not a Habs fan at all but one fella they should take at 15 is Lavoie. I have seen him play many times for Halifax. Great hands, great size, and French. He has to bring a better compete level every shift but if they can fix that, he will be good

Good report. Pretty much what other fella told me as well. I watched Saskatoon a few times on TV and I like what I see in Dach. They say he needs to bring it every shift.
I'm with you on Broberg. I think it is to much of a stretch to pick him at 8 when we need forwards with speed. We have some fine looking D coming along nicely. I never thought that would happen

I do like how Holland seems to be going after fast guys, but IMO you have to take the BPA, like Boldy or Caufield. And if he does decide to choose a fast guy, I think Newhook or Krebs would be my preference.

So for those who want to draft Broberg. He is a pretty comparable player to Klefbom who needed 3 years before he could crack the Oilers roster full time in his 4th. Can the org wait til 2022-2023 NHL season for our first rounder this year to be an NHLer?

That's what Im worried about. We don't have 3 years. We have some nice Dman brewing now. Take a forward please

Did Krebs just suffer a bad injury?

I gotta move back out West. Sucks being an Oiler fan living in NS. There are actually lots of us around these parts but there are too many Leafs and Habs fans.

Okay I don't want to sound dumb but I don't know anything about this United States under-18 team and how they actually compete throughout the season.

But If all these guys are all on the same team it's kind of like the Avengers where they're Unstoppable as a team but by themselves Thor and the Hulk got their ass kicked by Thanos.

Are these guys individually going to be as good as they play as a team?
I've tried to find some past graduates from the program but Wikki isn't updated for past years.

Thoughts? or am I lacking some? lol

No u are not lacking. All we have are scouting reports and we don't see them too much. They mostly come from a development team so we don't follow as much. I'm still not sold on Hughes. If Jersey takes him, they will need to beef up very quickly.
Hey, there is a spot for Lucic

He did suffer an achilles injury. In practice another player's skate blade cut into his achilles tendon. Luckily its not a full tear though. He'll probably be out for camp and the start of next season. That's why I now have Boldy and Caufield firmly ahead.
