I'm watching this now, and man is Stauffer such a bag of hot air. He sure thinks highly of himself.

Brar, who I've never seen or heard of, was easily the most interesting one out of the three.

Stauffer does this every year. Almost every year he is usually wrong. Its public knowledge that detroits scout was high on Broberg so Stauffer just ran with it.

According to Stuaffer, both Cozens and Broberg went for dinner with The Oilers during the combine.

Got any link to shifts by shifts? The games I've seen and the highlights are why I really don't like him. Maybe I've only watched his bad games
Highlights are the worst thing to base an opinion off of for any player.

They either look really good or really bad.

Sounds like from that panel that they went for dinner with Cozens and Broberg at the combine. Have we heard of anyone else they took out during that time or have had in Edmonton since or before the combine?

That's who Stauffer wants.
Not the organization. Dudes been out of touch for a while and I doubt he has an in with Holland yet.

Drafting Broberg at 8 would, imo be a massive fail for the org. I simply don't see him working in the NHL. I don't see his game adapting well on the smaller ice.

Stauffer isnt just pulling that name out of a hat. He's connected throughout the league. If he was going to pull a name out of a hat it would be a forward and probably one of the guys that were ranked high.

I call it like I see it, there is lots to like with Broberg, his lack of a big shot is likely what has him lower than 8th. IMO he's a better skater than Klef was at the same age but lacks the Klef-bomb. I see OEL upside with this player if he can improve his shot and all around game. That said, if a guy like Dach is there at 8, that is my choice.

I disagree hes got a hard slap shot from the point. I dont really get the Nurse comparisons. Other then them both having good skating. Broberg is like a really good skating Klefbom IMO.

HFBoards hive mind. Someone said it and it’s grown from there. I’ve watched numerous games of his, along with shift by shifts and it’s nowhere near as egregious as people make it out to be.

Would you say he can make breakout passes? That's the most important quality we need

Brar is a good friend of mine. Great guy and a great mind for hockey. Also, his analysis is decent. I only watch those stupid videos if he's in them

The chances of a guy like Broberg coming from 15 into the top 10 is extremely low

And Bob Mackenzie who is more connected than Stauffer by an incredible amount has Broberg at 15 behind Soderstrom.

Mackenzie had him at 8 unless something changed....

Edit: I see he just put out a new list today. I dont see us taking Podkolzin

I live in NS and don’t know much about Cozens. What u guys have out there on him? He has good size

Hes a pretty polarizing guy on HFOil. Hes one of my favourite prospects in the draft.

Pros:
  • I love his size at 6'3".
  • Hes a right handed center.
  • The speed. Dear god the speed.
  • The kid can produce. He lead all whl draft eligible players in scoring with 34 goals and 50 assists for 84 points.
  • Willingness to go to the front of the net to score goals.
  • He has all the intangibles. Hes hard working, determined , competitve, character guy and a leader.
  • He plays a responsible game. Plays both sides of the puck and committed to defense.
  • When he puts on muscle he can still add that power element to his game.
  • Hes versatile. He can play wing or center. He can play the powerplay or the penalty kill.
Cons:
  • Fans question his offensive creativity/hands as some of the other kids in the top 10.
  • Fans also question his hockey IQ as he tries go go through guys and force the play a lot.
  • Cozens didnt dominate like people wanted at the U18s with "only" 9 points in 7 games.

7 Draft threads. That means we need about 4 or 5 stages of life to go with "Premature" and "Adolescent" for next season. Get thinking!

Here's my final rankings for this draft:

1. Hughes
2. Kakko
3. Byram
4. Turcotte
5. Dach
6. Zegras
7. Boldy
8. Caufield
9. Cozens
10. Newhook
11. Krebs
12. York
13. Seider
14. Harley
15. Broberg

Krebs dropped 2 spots due to his injury, otherwise he'd be above Cozens and Newhook. From 12 to 15 is a run of the 2nd tier of dmen in my order of preference.

I think I’ve landed on Zegras, Dach or Caufield as my hopefuls for 8.

I sprint to the stage for Zegras. Brisk walk for Caufield. Gentle stroll for Dach - but yes they’re my top 3 in that spot. I’d like Boldy too.

At this point I just hope we don’t reach for Broberg. Draft him or don’t draft him I don’t care but at least trade down for him. He’ll be there at 13/14/15.
