Byram is also my preference if we're picking outside of the top 2.

As good as Podkolzin may be you can't take a chance on him with a top 5 pick. Unless he changes his tune he'll fall sharply in the drat IMO.

If we're lucky enough to pick 1st OA, it's Hughes all the way for me. What I like about Jack is that he's been prolific despite the fact he's underdeveloped physically, and has a weak shot. That means there's a lot of upside left. I also think players of his ilk will age well. I think Kakko will be the better player initially but Jack will be the better player long term.

The odds of Kings being 1-3 is 38.8%. This means there is a 61.2% chance of being 4-5. Ungood.
I am going by an image posted during the King game last night...13.5% to win and it also had 38.8% top 3 picks....which could only mean that there is a 61.2% chance of being 4-5.

Yeah it is

And with all that his numbers are nothing special

84 points in the WHL is pretty damn good at 17-18. He just turned 18 in February. He led his team in scoring. Not a lot of major junior players at 17-18 yr top 100 pts.

You see some pretty ill numbers in the US program / USHL...several topping a combined 100 pts and Caulfield scoring 50+ goals. Hard to know if they could attain those numbers in CHL hockey.
I wonder if they run up their numbers on the weak teams...US defenseman York had an 8 point game, I think.

Finally played Tankathon....pleased with results in 10 clicks: 2, 5, 3, 4, 1, 4, 3, 4, 1, 4
only one #5 selection. 2 Hughes'...1 Kakko. 3-4 came up 6 out of the 10 times.

I stopped after this...

Unless the Kings get the 1st or 2nd pick, it will be a 2nd guesser's dream draft because Cozens, Dach and Turcotte are really bunched up. I think that they are all really solid picks and could go in any order 3-5 unless someone goes after Byram because of need.

Dach looks good

That is a very big kid moving like a gazelle. I have read a lot about his reach and touch. The one thing that keeps Cozens slightly higher is that Dach is more of a playmaker and a true Center while Cozens seems like he will develop into a scoring Winger who can create his own scoring chances and has a nasty shot. Turcotte could be just as good. I really think that there are no big risks in the top 5 in terms of Forwards.

I am not sure that Krebs is a big risk either. He and Zegras both seem to be very good players. If a team is picking in the Top 10 this year, they are going to get a very talented player on paper.

We as fans seem to never mention Zegras as a pick 5 option. I am in awe watching his clips.

Probably because if you are going to go with a playmaking C, then Dach would probably be the better pick than Zegras. I think the size of Dach and Cozens stands out because they can both skate as well. A good number of people who have seen a lot of Dach, swear by him as #3 behind Hughes/Kakko.

I think Turcotte could be a wildcard because he has a lot of fans in his corner that feel the only thing holding him back is lack of exposure this year and the fact that he has been hurt twice.

The easiest place to pick in this draft is #2 because you take Kakko after Hughes. Hughes will go #1 regardless of what anyone says but if Kakko ends up being better than that #1 pick will be talked about for years.

i wonder what the kings could do to get the oilers’ pick if byram is still on the board. would we take back lucic? or maybe brandon manning? we have some pieces that could help them too. they need a competitive team asap.

Great video clips of Cozens from 2018 Hlinka with great commentary.

I just like his overall game and skating more than Dach. Even in that great goal by Dach today, his feet
are choppy and not sure how his speed tops out at the NHL level. Cozens is a better skater...scored about 10 more goals and just like his game more. These clips are from last year, but good. In the Hlinka tournament, ice surface bigger and the Swedes are typically very good skater and Dylan looking great against them. At 10:00 Cozens skates around the SVK team like all of them 2 times.

Watch all 12 minutes...good stuff and lots of top tier talent out there.
Some of the clips have Dach, Byram, Krebs, Ryan Suzuki, Poulin, Lafreniere...good stuff to watch!!

Byram is one of the younger players in the draft. The Kings have taken some of the younger players in recent drafts.

Despite being younger, and playing defense, Byram has put up similar production to top ranked forward prospects playing in the same league.

Both are interesting undrafted overagers.
Both put up over 100 points in their leagues.

Not for a supposed no. 1 center that should be dominating junior with his size and speed
We compare US program numbers with players that played there is previous years

If the Kings win the lottery, is everyone prepared for the plethora of 'Fixed' trolls that will be bombarding this and every board on HF?
That would be AWESOME!!! Get Hughes and have the fans of all the other teams hate us for the next 15 years. Just like 2011 to 2014 when we beat the crap out of everybody.

My first result from today ... and that would be perfect for us. Imagine a first line of Brown - Kopitar - Kakko (also perfect for the powerplay because of the R (Kovy/Brown) - L (Kopi/Kakko) - L (Kopi/Kakko) shoot combination) next season f.e.

And if Byram will fall a little bit, try to trade up with the 1st round TOR pick (great trade!) this year, next years 2nd round pick, Toffoli and/or Martinez (little bit salary retainment) and one of the lower younger bottom-6 forwards and/or Ds, if there is a good fitting trade partner in the right spot and Byram still available ... Drew + him would be very nice to complete a cool dynamic starting lineup!

Otherwise pick one of the maybe fallen exciting forwards (trade up a little bit) with the TOR pick, try to aquire another later 1st round pick to draft one of the other very good D's and use our 33th pick for Knight (maybe trade up a little bit to secure him, because think what our goalie stuff could do with such a talent and we maybe have another true elite/franchise golie in the future for many years, who can learn from Quick one or two things, too *g*).

I think that will set our franchise in a great direction. Oh please, hockey gods ... don't let us pick after the top 2 with our 1st ... ;D

You have unrealistic expectations.

Ryan Getzlaf, in his draft year, scored less than a point per game in the WHL.
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, the last #1 overall pick from the WHL, had a 1.5 ppg in his draft year.
Nolan Patrick, who was the consensus #1 in 2017 but was overtaken by Hischier, scored 46 points in 33 games in his draft year. Again, less than 1.5 ppg.

Even Brayden Point, who has developed into a star, "only" had 91 points in 72 WHL games in his draft year.

So what numbers would you have expected from Cozens, Dach, or Krebs to say they had a good year?
