“They’re both really good players, probably not superstars,” another scout said. “Hughes could be Patrick Kane, but he might be Clayton Keller. Either way, a very good player. I don’t see Kakko as a superstar either. Very good player.”

I've had similar feelings watching them play. I don't think either player is going to be a huge difference maker. I hope I'm wrong, and I hope we draft one of them.

You have some scouts that say one thing and others than run completely opposite. One thing that has been consistent in the decades of drafting that I have seen is that the closer you get to the draft, the more the stupid scouts start cherry-picking things on the top picks. It's like after watching them for years, they all of the sudden have found something that makes them pause when it's probably nothing.

Me too.

Byram Doughty
Anderson Clague
Durzi Phillips

Not a lock but a nice thought for the future.
That defense has potential to turn out great. Im not well versed in prospects though. Anyone have thoughts on Moverare?

cherry on top would be winning next 2 games, teams ahead of us winning the 3 lottery balls, and kings picking 6th.

I expect us to pick 6th. I am hoping we pick higher but I am really happy to be in the 1-6. I would rather pick 6th than 7th because I feel that there are 6 really good first line talent guys: Hughes, Kakko, Cozens, Dach, Byram and Turcotte. I am omitting the Russian because the Kings won't pick him. I think Krebs would be the next one on the list.

Best odds are picking 4th through 6th. Assuming we take a forward. Podkolzin, Turcotte, Cozens and Dach. Who do you choose and why?

Hearing Bobby Mac compare Hughes to Clayton Keller and say Kakko may be nothing special was depressing. The only thing that would make it worse at this point is if the Kings pick up points tonight. I’m resigned to the team losing the draft lottery. If they somehow get third, I like Byram based size and his CHL numbers. This teams Achilles heel has been a #2 defenseman since 2014 / 2015. If it falls below, then I think your list is solid based on consensus.

Podz - way too much on the line in this draft to take a chance on this guy coming over. Unless they talk to him pre draft and get some kind of commitment, combined with due diligence around his current contract, no way you draft him with any 4-5 pick. If they fall to sixth and can’t secure him pre draft, then they need to trade the pick to some team who wants to move up and will swap their 1st plus more. Get Porky here instead.

Turcotte - not a fan of ncaa guys this high.

Cozens - this is my pick, good goal scoring, good chl pedigree

Dach - intriguing because he seems both lanky and good all around offensively. But I worry his numbers aren’t eye popping and he’s not the top player on his average team, who are a couple of over age guys.

I'm certainly not a scout or anything but I predict Kakko is going to be a superstar one day. Kid looks amazing. Was basically only one who did something for TPS in the playoffs. Gave the team a chance to win every night.

It is going to be interesting if we pick 6th and Hughes, Kakko, Byram, Turcotte and Dach are gone. Do we risk it with Podkolzin, "safely" pick Cozens or someone else?

If we weren’t so desperate for elite scorers and could gamble, Podkolzin would be a pick since if he stayed over there, they could fill the void.

That said, they need a guy who at the minimum is a solid Top 6 with star and Top 3 potential. Cozens is the guy who fits that criteria. I think he will be the 3rd guy off the board though. At 6, he would be a steal. I think it will go Cozens, Turcotte, Dach, Byram after the first two.

Why grumpy? Both Cozens and Dach are considered elite and top 3 material. They are both huge and skate very well. Just a preference or down on them? Just curious.

Mostly just personal preference/gut from watching and scouting reports.

Love Hughes, Kakko.
2nd tier love Turcotte, love Byram (edit: though I don't think he should be picked as high as 4, more like 6-7)
Cozens and Dach will still be good players, but would be disappointing gets for a team finishing 30th. Cozens strikes me as the kind of guy who will certainly be an NHLer but more of a middle-six guy or complementary top winger and Dach, as high as I was on him early this year, didn't seem to take an extra step forward. He's diet Kakko. Again, both will be good-to-great players (and like I said I was super high on Dach earlier), but much like Brayden Schenn, you want more from a top-5 pick. This team needs sure-fire top end first line status offensive talent, not 2nd line centers and wingers.

Interesting take to say at least.

Depends on what Bobby thinks is “something special”.

Next Ovechkin ? No.

Though, I doubt a player who broke Aleksander Barkov’s SM-Liiga record for first-year draft eligibles wont be very good.

Cozens likely similar to a young Carter. Dach's game reminds me of Vilardi, maybe better acceleration. Really coming around on Turcotte. Wish he was a better shooter, but everything else is the real deal.
