Thomas Hickey.

Thomas Hickey was drafted in 2007. It was an old regime, different era. The body of work so far in terms of the draft with this current management structure is pretty decent with regards to where they have been positioned in the draft. They couldn't have predicted Vilardi's injury and several of their other picks look pretty good.

I am not a huge fan of Blake and Robitaille as leaders but as far as the draft is concerned, they have done a pretty decent job.

Kopitar was a no brainer as was Vilardi. Forbort also fell in their lap as he was projected higher. Teubert went right in line with where many had him but never worked out obviously.

They actually had to trade up to select Forbort. He didn’t fall to them.

I still don't mind this pick because it wasn't off the board and it made sense at the time. The Hickey pick stings a lot worse...

That pick turned out into a major surprise in the sense that in one of the deepest drafts, they wind up with a player who appears in 24 games in the NHL and is a major bust.

Erik Karlsson aside, they were in position to select a higher ranked defenseman who was said to have a far higher ceiling in terms of potential.

That defenseman being Tyler Myers. But they went for a need with that Teubert pick because drafting for toughness and tenacity always works out well.

Anze Kopitar.

That was an entirely different staff who fortunately made that decision after many teams mistakenly passed on one of the best talents in the draft because of his birthplace. The Kings are fortunate Lombardi’s group wasn’t in charge then, because the Kings would very well likely have ended up with Marc Staal at 11.

It’s also funny to see that a year prior, Lauri Tukonen also fell to the Kings, and he was projected to be a top 4 pick in 2004. He turned into a major dud.

Another draft thought. Friday night will be exciting for King fans and this board will be talking about picks 5 and 22 (or any possible trades that happen) and discussion
going on past midnight...but I will be going, who is the best player still on the board, to pick tomorrow morning at 33? And there will probably be 10 names discussed...
but the suspense will be "who is Ottawa taking at 32? They had better not take ______ , I pray they don't take him and the Kings draft him" And Ottawa picks the player most were hoping to fall. FFFFF!!! Then the Kings go off the board ANYWAY and don't draft any of the ones we think they will pick. Even Saturday with rounds 2-7 will be eventful. Picking at 33 and 64, the Kings should get good players.

I'm not so sure, wasn't he predicted to go top fiveish and fell to us? A lot of people were wondering why he fell to us, now perhaps we know why. It was a calculated risk that hasn't panned out yet.

So Krebs was injured recently. Another player's skate cut through his cut-resistant sock and into his achilles tendon.

According to his agent it's a partial tear and he's expected to make a full recovery.

An agent is always going to down play an injury and make it sound not so bad. An Achilles tendon is serious though. I wonder if he drops.

Here's what I'm hoping for...

NewJersey sends #1 overall to LA for #5 overall. New York sends #2 overall to LA for #22 and #33 overall /sarcasm
Barring that NOT happening (i'm not so optimistic in that scenario) I hope:::::::::::

Byram falls!

#5 Byram
#13-15 Newhook (#22 + #33 or something to get that to happen)

Would end up with the best defenseman and forward I think is 4-6 th best forward.

If Byram and Turcotte go at 3 and 4. Id prefer the Kings take Zegras over Dach and Cozens. Love the physical aspect he brings despite being on the small side...

Maybe he'll fall into the foot steps of Mike Richards and Ryan Callahan.

Krebs could drop like a rock. An Achilles is no joke especially when speed is such an asset . His agent’s quotes might as well be from his own father since they are worthless in terms of honest.

That said, if Krebs were there at #22......

Our Docs had better have a really good feel about how much of s serious injury that was. Even though I can't see him still around at our 22 pick. I think we should move things along with the 22 and get a higher pick, then maybe he's still there.

Elite Prospects - NHL Draft Center HOCKEYPROSPECT.COM TOP 31

final rankings, Cozens is out of the top 10, hope Kings scouts feel the same

He is firmly in the Top 10 when you look at most of the experts.

This list in general is different and goes counter to a lot of others. It has Newhook at #17, Broberg at #21, Seider at #10, Krebs at #6. Broberg as an example, will be probably the next Dman after Byram and will never make it that far. If so, the Kings should try to trade up to get him.

Craig Button also had Cozens out of the top 10. Bob McKenzie's list comes out in two weeks on the 17th, and his list is based off of info he's gathered from scouts.

A Slovenian forward who came to Sweden and blew up the U20 in his first year from home, yeah he was a no brainer
The second division.

Yes in hindsight everyone knows it exactly here. Thats nothing new.

Caufield blew up the U18 and is a top prospect as well. The question was if the Kings would draft him and somebody said the Kings were not a team that would gamble. Its size with him and it was nationality with Kopitar. Whether its justified, is irrelevant.

This is the link to the original Kopitar thread when he was drafted in 2005:
http://hfboards.mandatory.com/showthread.php?t=156301

Unfortunately HF didn't archive older content during its server changeover a few years back. Maybe someone knows somewhere where it's preserved?

If I recall correctly the title of the thread was simply "Kopitar!"

I remember most of us being very excited about it.
