Wouldn't be a bad pick if he's around at #33.

This is really tough because what I see in articles about Brink are a lot of people downplaying his skating/size. When people spend a lot of time downplaying things, it sounds like a sales pitch and that makes me skeptical. If a guy is small, I really feel that he needs to be a great skater. Caufield, as an example can hit it at the top end and when you combine his squat body and incredible hands, I can buy that. Newhook is small but can skate like the wind and has some really good hands.

Brink is not really well built and not a great skater. He has one of the best shots in the class though. He scores a lot of goals but when he is playing at the next level, will his physical limitations hold him back and leave him open to being erased out of a lot of plays?

I have seen his style compared to T.J. Oshie but everything I read says that he needs to reach his ceiling to be a Top 6. That's asking a lot but at #33, I could maybe take a shot at him. I wouldn't take him at #22 though. I think that he may drop a bit. He seems like one of those guys who will be critiqued more towards the negative than the positive come draft day.

Give it a day - we'll be back to Cozens.

I don't think that anyone here is going to pick Cozens over Turcotte(unless the injury scares you away) or Byram. Cozens seems to be the least sexy and safest pick because while he may not become a star, he will be a Top 6 most likely. He has a pretty stable floor. The guy who probably has the higher star ceiling that Cozens or Dach is Zegras.

Pronman's analysis on Zegras:

Teams looking to draft Zegras are not picking a guy hoping to get an elite burner like Hughes or Alex Turcotte, who is going to run over guys on his way to the net. You are drafting Zegras with the intention of finding your first power play unit QB for the next decade. He is going to be the player who will get the puck to his team’s goal-scorers.

He may not have had the most elite production this season (although he produced very well), but he looked so good so consistently. He showed very often why his playmaking ability is elite and attributes that will translate to the higher levels.

Zegras projects as a first-line forward at the NHL level, whether at center or on the wing, who will be an elite presence on the power play.

Some quotes on Zegras:

An NHL scout said: “High-end skill, high-end creativity. He’s a very good playmaker. He can break defenders down 1-on-1, he make plays through seams with the best of them. He’s deceptive and has so much confidence it’s fun to watch.”

An NHL scout said: “Elite, elite skill. From the offensive blue line in, he’s the most dangerous player in the draft.”

An NHL scout said: “Trevor has star No. 1 center potential. He’s such a special playmaker.”

USNTDP center Jack Hughes said: “He’s the most creative player on our team. He thinks outside the box, he’s really smart and super crafty with his hands and movements. He’s really slippery. He’s an easy guy to play with knowing he’ll always give you great passes.”

USNTDP U18 coach John Wroblewski said: “He was our best power play guy at picking apart the opposition, including over Jack [Hughes]. He is that skilled. He’s very quick.”
Trevor Zegras said: “I have really good vision. I can read through things very quickly.”

Didn't think I actually needed to type this, but... we have 4 teams drafting ahead of us - what do we do depends on what they do.

LMAO, they're about to play Blake and the FO...
They know we covet Byram and they're going to get extras from us... if they value Cozens/Dach/Podzolkin/Zegras all the same, then why not drop down 2 spots..

and this is why the draft lottery as it currently stands is beyond terrible

I couldn’t see them trading up to that spot and give away picks or assets. We have way too many needs to sacrifice for #3. Maybe in some crazy scenario and the Rangers didn’t want Kakko they could go there but not #3. The other things the Kings could do is trade down or maybe package picks to get up in the top 10-15 if a player they really want is there.

Huh...No,. We went in this draft hoping for one of the top 2 elite forwards. Byram wasn't even on the radar as a top 5 until after the balls dropped. No reason to move assets for him, we are not talking about moving up for Kakko or Hughes.

Correction, we went into the Draft Lottery hoping for 1 elite Forward and hopefully another top 9...
But the ping pongs went another way and we'll get stuck with the leftovers unless, as I stated prevously, Blake and the FO are enamoured with Byram and they make the move to secure him.. I still think he falls to us because the teams infront of us all need offense while we need everything..

Kings really taking a puck moving D when we have Doughty, Martinez, Walker, Clague, and Durzi.

Doughty's the only regular NHLer we can expect to play on the Kings. Martinez is 32, so he's not likely to be a regular on the Kings for too long and the rest are just lottery tickets.

And it apparently hasn't been emphasized enough. Going back to the 80s, no defenseman in the WHL ever led the league in playoff scoring. Byram did it at the age of 17.

What if they go...... Double D!!!:sarcasm:
Bowen Byram
Moritz Seider

Then we’ll have a decent defensive pool at least. Byram, Clague, Seider, Durzi, Anderson, Phillips.

That doesn’t make a lot of sense though from an org perspective.

That's what I said and I agree, we were all in for forwards now we are at 5 so things change. But the price to move to 3 is not worth it. Why would Hawks lose out on Byram and Turcotte to slide to 5? It would take a heck of an incentive for them to do that.

Kings didn't draft a single defenseman in last years draft so I wouldn't be surprised if they went with a defenseman early. Whether its Byram, Sieder, Harley or whomever I'd be happy with that. I don't think the team is in desperate need when Clague, Anderson, Phillips, Roy, and Walker are pretty close to NHL ready, but anyone of those 3 defensemen who are likely to be there would definitely improve the look of the defense.
