The NHL’s 31 GMs are eagerly awaiting Saturday’s word, finally, of where next season’s salary cap upper limit will be. Commissioner Gary Bettman told them in the GMs meeting Thursday what he then told the assembled media: The league is awaiting sign-off from the NHL Players’ Association, and an announcement is expected for Saturday on Day 2 of the draft.

This is not on Bettman or the NHL, it's on the NHLPA. Perhaps there should have been a deadline associated with the date of the draft, but the NHLPA knows what is at stake by not having a decision on the escalator before the draft. That decision could have been made even with ballpark cap numbers.

Turcotte is the embodiment of what LA needs. Speed, skill, grit, and determination.

Byram is too.

Really hope it’s one of them but I’ll be ok with Kopi light. (Dach) or Zegras.
As soon as I read Kopitar lite comparisons to Dach I went with Zegras. Need a guy who's willing to take a few more chances than a Perimitar clone.

So after tomorrow she second round we may add to our prospect list our #1, 3 and #5/6 ranked prospects. We have a lot off quantity and this draft should supplement the quality. I am very excited.

Really hoping Byram, would love Turcotte but still would be very satisfied with a Zegras or Dach. I wouldn’t complain about a Cousins either after reading Yanetti’s report.

Just trying to keep my mind busy and off the draft because it’s already driving me nutty.

I also think our second 1st will be affected by our 5th pick but in a perfect world I would love to walk away with Byram and Harley tonight. Still love the philosophy of building from the back end out.

One of the TSN mock drafts originally had Dach going to the Aves and us selecting Byram, but it's been updated today to predict that Byram won't get past Colorado.

Indeed, I would have no issue if both selections were defensman.

For me, it's like never having enough pitching in baseball. If you can develop guys on the backend, you can always deal one to pick up some scoring help.

I envy the position the Hurricanes are in with their plethora of defenseman, most of whom are home grown.

I feel like 5-7 years from now that Newhook is going to end up being a top 5 player out of this draft. I wish there was a way we could get another pick in the top 10 to snag him. I can't see the value of passing on Zegras or Dach at pick 5 but it sure would be great to have Newhook......

I agree, 100%. I hope the Kings can trade up to also get one of: Newhook or Boldy and get one of: Byram, Turcotte at 5. Would change this franchise.

Dach is a big center like kopi, good skater but is more of a power forward type, he goes through players. He also has a great shot but doesn't use it enough (cough Kopitar cough), but he's not a perimeter player like you're probably thinking.

Agreed. Which is why i am down with Boldy. He’s a great player who is going to push the offense and he has size/strength that Zegras doesn’t have. But if it’s Zegras then i’m good with it. I don’t get why they’re off of Cozens all together. But they do that for a living and i’m just some fan on the internet. LOL. Last thing we need is some on again off again offensive key player. Got too many of those.

Honestly I think the first pick should be like looking at some awesome gifts and then we just get one, some might never a bit better some a bit less. But once we get our gift then the real draft drama come with what Blake does with the 22. Can he find a way to get up into that Newhook/Kebs group up at 10-12? If he can do that then we should feel like absolute WINNERS today. And who knows maybe we keep the 22 and something great drops to us.

Rumor has it Colorado might be moving Barrie, which likely means they draft Byram if I had to guess.

Can’t wait to watch Turcotte and Byram get picked at 3 and 4. :)

That's been the expectation all along, with a hope and prayer that somehow they are a still there. Don't expect them to be there, itll make tonight easier.

We are gonna get Dach.

You should be more worried about Zegras then. That guy's highlight reel is making a pass then skating away from the play.

I have thought the same, when watching him...but Yannetti says Zegras attacks the hard areas. I have also see him get physical too. I just think it's going to take him 2 years to get bigger and stronger to be effective, physically. But if he really is more perimeter than aggressively going into hard areas, I may favor Dach...but then again, Pronman says Zegras may be #1 in the draft, in terms of pure elite offensive ability. I will just say - all the Kings scouts and staff have collectively poured over hundreds of hours of footage, met with all of these top young prospects, talked with their coaches, teammates and huddled over the past 3 days over who the best one is at 5. If a player lacks in any way, they will not take him at 5. If it's Zegras, Dach, or even Cozens, they believe he's the BPA there and I will not go apshttt about it. They know more than you or I.

Yannetti - via FrozenRoyalty (thanks, Gann)
Trevor Zegras – Center, U.S. Under-18 National Team Development Program. 18 years old. 6-0, 173 pounds. Bedford, New York. Left hand shot. CSB Rank: 6 (North American skaters).
He’s an elite skater. The pace to his game is at a higher level. He attacks all over the ice. He’s always pressing the attack. He’s always using his speed and he’s always rushing to hard areas. He makes coverages move and he makes guys come to him because of the way he attacks. His skill is higher level. I think he’s slightly more of a playmaker than a scorer.
He can play center or wing. He’s another guy who is a long way from reaching his physical peak. But he’s an elite, speed-based player who is going to create a lot of problems for defenders at the next level.
