I'm really impressed with Misiuk on the PK this game. He has hands of stone but can definitely hold his own defensively.

Armalis, meanwhile, is just not where we need him to be. He had that massive meltdown in 6-5 loss against Poland and in this game hasn't really saved anything worth mentioning either.

I read that 5 players are joining from Tilburg: Ryan Collier, Reno de Hondt, Danny Stempher, Jordy Verkiel and Giovanni Vogelaar.
Why on Earth doesn't Tilburg play in DEL2? They are playing for sixth consecutive championship in Oberliga. What's the point to mess up with their national team like that?

They aren't allowed to be promoted. This is just their fourth season in the Oberliga, though.

If you play DEL2 you have to drive all around the country. And Germany is a pretty big one. Oberliga is split into 2 zones meaning you cut the distance you need to travel by half. That limits transport costs, eliminates the need for potential hotel bookings, etc. Basically, Tilburg just doesn't have the money to make the big jump to DEL2 and prefer dominating Oberliga year after year.

There is just little benefit to them to turn into DEL2 bottom dweller and pay for it a whole lot more in the process. Now they are a dominant team, they sell tickets and life is good. Not to their NT though..

LTU scores on the first shot for ages (at least in the third period) and we still have a game.

No, they have sought to be promoted but they have been turned down. This has also been stated by the club president.

Again, were they not turned down simply due to arena/financial reasons? I find it hard to believe Germans would feel they threaten DEL2 or something. They do ruin Oberliga for the German teams though.

Regarding the game, again, Armalis has to be better if we want to get some points. Being .900 goalie won't be enough. If we score 3 and walk away with 0 points that's bad. You can be beat but also you need to make that clutch save in this situation. Not allow the 4th goal between the legs.

I think the original argument against their promotion was that they are not well known by the German hockey audience and that teams playing against them might struggle to attract spectators for the games which is a really shoddy argument of course. I don't see why would the club itself pursue promotion if they did not have the financial means to operate in DEL2.

Romania, meanwhile, gets a 2nd win of their tournament beating both Estonia and Japan. This is really best Romanian roster ever but it slipped under the radar since Romanian hockey is just under the radar overall. But great job by them, it's nice to see after a long stretch of bs surrounding their NT they are finally a solid 1B country. They are missing their top scorer as well.

Japan looks like crap though. The coaching change has to be imminent. Last year this guy got a free pass because they missed a lot of players but this year they look just as bad, 2 very unconvincing games and 2 very good opponents still ahead.

if slovenia can stay away from idiotic mistakes in defense, they still got a chance to finish 1-2. kopi is huge for this team, drozg is progressing fine, but defense suxxx a bit too much. and it's already proverbial, in last 2 or 3 wc slovenia blew their chances with a poor game by their defenders. another issue might be that they rely only on two top lines, which spells trouble in the end of the tourney. still, very decent last 3o minutes today.

How come neither of the Kostitsyn brothers or Korobov for Belarus are going to show?
All of them are injured. As well as Stepanov, Karnaukhov, Gotovets, Pavlovich, Buinitsky, Drozdov, Parfeevets, Gavrus... Dinamo Minsk exists to ruin the players only. This national team is a joke.
Everyone is waiting for Kolyachonok, Protas and that U-18 team to grow up. Protas just had back-to-back hat-tricks in the WHL Conference finals and leads the WHL in playoffs goals.

I thought Stepanov was the guy who got cut for being poison in the locker room, and cried about it to the fans. They're letting him back?

Everybody comes back to Minsk eventually. It's only a matter of time.

That was last year with old coaching staff. This year he has played for the national team at different tournaments.
Minsk is a black hole for players development. Everyone is regressing there.

I know.

But everyone will end up there.
