What are the Estonian chances of a Lithuanian style upset this year? They do have some decent forwards. Pretty terrible goalies tho.

I would say none. Regardless of today's result. Poland is just too good from top to bottom. It wasn't an upset that we won last year as we just got lucky none of the legit 1A countries like Poland, South Korea or GB were there. And in my opinion, Poland is actually the strongest of those 3 mentioned. The fact they got relegated last year is down to just bizarre results and bad luck.

massive difference between D1B and D2A in all aspects. I sometimes find it hard to believe they are connected.

That is so indeed. But like I said before, 1B is, albeit at the margins of it, still pro hockey. 2A is recreational level hockey with a couple of semi-pro players sprinkled in.

Regarding the Koitmaa debate, he isn't terrible (for this level) but he definitely isn't good. For a long time hockey community, in Lithuania at least, was quite amazed he is playing pro hockey.

Also regarding Poland, there is a good chance they will have Dronia and Chmelewski for the next game as both of their teams can clinch their titles today.

Even though the game was tied 1-1 for a good bit there the shots after 2 periods are 7 -45 Poland  Kinda sorta as expected but still pretty impressive.

Tilburg tied the series today (2:2). Deciding game is played on Tuesday.
So... no Tilburg players for tomorrow's game against Estonia.

What's worse, they play Ukraine, the only team I would consider beatable for them under the circumstances, on Wednesday morning. So Tilburg guys should be there but in terrible condition. Which I think sinks Dutch chances of staying up.

How come neither of the Kostitsyn brothers or Korobov for Belarus are going to show?
Hopefully some Belarussian member will answer this, but their roster looks scary bad. I kinda can see them messing up promotion as Kazakhstan has foreigners carrying them and Slovenia is Slovenia - they just find a way to compete.

As far as I understand, they had like the most miserable locker room last year. No team spirit, lots of finger pointing and arguments and stuff.

So the exclusion of some players might very well be related to that.

Guess how many shots Dutch had after your post?
After you put it that way I guessed 0 and sure enough it checked out. I mean the Netherlands were just playing to get the puck out of their zone and change from the first minute. With only 15 skaters that are well lower quality no wonder they could barely skate in the 3rd..

Also I just realized when Tilburg's season is done they are only getting 3 players, not 5. They don't have a chance to survive with that..

Still better than ours, I guess we aren't getting promoted either :(

I certainly believe this, but the Kostitsyn brothers weren't there last year, so there must be another reason for them.

It's highly improbable but I would like nothing more than for them to stay down another year haha

Do you have some new info?
I read that 5 players are joining from Tilburg: Ryan Collier, Reno de Hondt, Danny Stempher, Jordy Verkiel and Giovanni Vogelaar.

I don't think it's fair to describe Belarus not promoting as 'messing up'.

Kazakhstan has a bunch of imports this year who weren't available in 2018. Dietz is ridiculous for this level. Bochenski, Boyd, St. Pierre, that's like 3 Kostitsyns. 16 KHL players total. They are the favorites in my opinion.

Belarus only has 11 + 1 AHL guy and a pretty demotivated team without a solid goalie. They are only a little better than Slovenia and Hungary without accounting for their locker room problems.

The mighty Belarus, king of hockey, should always be in the top division.

Wouldn’t be surprised if they actually got relegated with this squad. Don’t wanna even imagine Lukashenko in that situation, read some very scathing notes from him in their press.

It's kind of hard to respect them after paying so many random foreigners to accept the Belarusian citizenship and suit up for their country. It's a bit of a joke really. Ditto for Kazakhstan.

It's like North Korea building fake skyscrapers or something.

Wouldn't it be great if Slovenia and Hungary advanced.
