Niskanen had the highest xGF and xGFrel of our defensemen in the playoffs. Not bad for a guy having a bad post season.
Niskanen through the first 9 games — round robin and first round — was dead last in relCF% and relxGF%. He had a better series against the Islanders, but it’s also skewed by a couple +40% performances. And Provorov seemed to be the guy doing the heavy lifting, more than Niskanen reverting to regular season form. At a certain point through the first series, microstats said he didn’t have a single individual entry/exit, along with Braun. He made terrible puck decisions, looked slow with bad routes, and earned every bit of vitriol.
Just like Sanheim-Myers had a Jekyll and Hyde first series and second series, so did Niskanen albeit in reverse. You like narratives.....that’s the narrative. And small sample acknowledged, Ghost actually was the highest in relxGF%. But we can’t say that because it didn’t matter.
