We don't have the right center for JVR. Hayes and JVR doesn't work because Hayes isn't a playmaker. Frost and JVR would be a disaster in the defensive zone. Laughton and JVR have been ok together, but that's not ideal either.

I just don't see a spot for JVR on this team. I guess his only hope is Patrick returning.
Hayes is a plus passer. There is some things I don't like about his game, but I'm not going to complain about his passing ability and vision.

Also, JvR and Hayes have some very good offensive metrics together. I'm not sure how much stock you put into those types of numbers, xGF, HDCF etc.

The only time I remember them being on the same line was at the start of the season. Voracek was also on that line.
Weren't they pretty bad together? But then again, a lot has changed since then, so maybe it's worth another try.

100% on the mark
JVR and Hayes is a really slow line.
Defensively hard pass on Frost and JVR together.

His defensive shortcomings are not imaginary. He wasn't good in the defensive zone. It's easier to be good defensively in the OHL when you're just better than most players you play against. NHL is different competition.
Frost is overrated by many. We’re talking about the 27th overall pick, who was expected to go in round 2, with strength, pace, & defensive issues. Yet some act like he’s a star. He’s a good prospect, but not some kind of stud.

Where a player was supposed to be drafted compared to where their development is +2 years is irrelevant. Frost has developed into a top prospect. Did you say the same thing about Giroux? Did you have that same ideology about ROR? Bergeron?

Was draft position the only thing I used to support my statement that Frost is a good prospect, but no stud, & overrated by many?

Strength, pace and defensive issues.... Strength is easy to develop under an NhL training regime. Frost size is the most overrated excuse of why he isn’t a top level prospect. Pace was fine in the AHL and in the NHL he was more than ok for his first cup of tea in the league. Defense always needs to be improved. Coaching can also put him into more favorable positions due to the other two centers we have on the team currently.

Never said he was a stud... he is easily a top 100 prospect in the game currently.

I don't think there's any question Frost will be a top offensive center, the questions are about adding strength, learning how to use his speed, and being more consistent - last year he had some weird stats, spectacular at home, awful on the road (10 games each) with a very high rate of offensive zones starts - AV was clearly sheltering him.

Frost did not tear up the AHL, which I found disappointing. When Criscuolo matches your performance, well . . .
Like a lot of talented skill players, the jump from the CHL to the pro game exposed warts, because he couldn't just out skate everyone.
But he'll be all of 21 this season, it's not like he flopped and is a bust.

It's up to Frost, if he has the work ethic he's supposed to have, he gets a personal trainer and spends the next 3-4 months reworking his body to be more NHL ready, then comes to TC and turns heads. That's what top prospects do when they're ready to break out.

Hayes and JvR played 244 min together....admittedly not a huge sample. Hayes, JvR and Jake only played 24 mins together, so not much time was spent together.

I think you need to keep Hayes away from TK and JvR for a few reasons, but the main one to me is NZ play. they are our best forwards at gaining the offensive zone with possession.

Have any metrics to back that up, because I didn't see it. I'm not saying he's a shutdown forward, but he wasn't hurting the team defensively at all.

Worst among Flyer top 9 forwards in xGA/60 and HDCA/60.
Despite OZ Zone starts of 76%.

Came here to post this for you, glad to see that tweet didn't pop your head like a watermelon.

When you're right, you're right. It's a sickening double standard and not based on results. Nothing to say about Niskanen, who is older and obviously hit the wall during the regular season? Might as well strip him of the 'C', right? He apparently needs to shed that weight to keep up with Taters. :shakehead

If anyone is suprised that this team is thinking of bringing Thompson back, then they haven't been a Flyers fans long enough. This team always bets on dusters, you can set your watch by it.

The only suprise here is that they aren't also talking about bringing back Grant at the same time.

I literally had to re-read each tweet twice. It's just such a stupid thing to say I assumed I must have misunderstood... but nope. He really is just that dumb and inconsistent.

It's mindblowing that he would complain about anything related to Giroux after how great he was this year, while never saying a single negative thing about guys like Niskanen, Hagg, or any other guy who sucked.

We're stuck with such a horrible staff. This could easily be even worse than the Hakstol era.
