Gostisbehere on the PK is welcome. Not giving him PP reps is stupid.

At this point, I'd like for him to flourish with another team. Just feel bad for the guy. The Flyers clearly don't want him.

:nopity:

They’ve only been a passable pairing in maybe a handful of games at the NHL level to date. They’re frequently a mess

Easy fix.

Hagg-Provorov
Sanheim-Niskanen
Myers-Braun

Hes looked like a flopping fish, and taking himself out of position for every performance I’ve seen out of him in the NHL.

Goaltending depth is important, especially with a team relying on an older backup they can’t ride too hard. I’m not sure wtf the point is of Lyon and JF Berube this year. That tandem. One guy who isn’t developing and the other a 28 year old who has been **** in his brief NHL stints.

Lyon is 27. A year younger than Berube. You can pretty much put him in the same boat as Berube as essentially AAAA guys at best. I don’t think it’s a lack of development rather than this is who he is.

Solved the Sanheim-Myers problem that you and Jojo couldn't.

Provorov-Niskanen
Sanheim-Braun
Hagg-Myers

Two very good pairings in the top 4 and one mediocre 3rd pair. This is what I’d do to fix Sanheim-Myers

Jokes aside, Sanheim-Braun seem to get torched for a lot of goals. Maybe bud luck, but....

Essentially what I mean though. You’d figure they would have one guy down there that at least has a chance at turning into something worthwhile.

I can’t speculate if Ustimenko (20) or Sandström (23) could play in the AHL but you’d like to see a bit more development there imo no?

Incompetence.

Uhhh... what happened to Farabee with Couts & Jake? They put the kid in a position to succeed, and he did just that.

Hayes doesn't make his linemates better. He elevates no one. Laughton has been a f***ing disgrace lately. Yet, here we are. 3rd line for Scoot. He should be a lot closer to a scratch than 3rd line.

The thinking I’m sure, is to put Laughton, Hates and Farabee back as they did play well together for a stretch.

Raffl has no business consistently playing up on a line bound of heavy minutes with Couturier. Healthy, or just coming off an injury.

What makes it a bit more perplexing to me is Farabee was imo playing some of his best hockey lately.

Yeah they’re probably at least a year away. I didn’t like the Berube signing & don’t like it even now though. As one of those guys should have been in the AHL full time this year.

I'd rather have Stolarz as our AAAA 3rd string goalie than Lyon. I like Lyon, but his positioning is a lot shakier and he's a lot smaller. Stolie has only been a bit better than Lyon in the AHL this season but I think he's better suited to the NHL game due to his size and relying on positioning instead of quickness.

There have been more than enough quotes from Fletcher & Flahr, plus his extraordinarily sheltered zone starts in the NHL by AV, to explain why Frost isn’t up right now.

Especially to explain why he wasn’t the callup on the road against Pittsburgh with the Pens having last change.

His play away from the puck & his pace haven’t been consistent enough in the AHL or NHL. He’s still working on paying attention to details & breaking bad habits caused by being used to dominating weaker competition.

They also don’t want to call him up just to play 7 minutes on the 4th line when he can be working on his game in important minutes in the A.

It’s not like Fletcher has shown to be reluctant to call up kids. Quite the opposite. Frost got one look. And he’ll likely get another one before the season is out.

I’ll add that with 0 goals & 2 assists in his last 5 AHL games, it’s not like he was banging the door down for a callup tomorrow.

Gotta get 4 points in 5 games in the hellscape that is Gordo hockey to bang down that door.

Edit - extra hilarious that he has 5 in his last 7. It's almost like looking at small isolated sample sizes is dumb. But also very important to do to maintain your terrible schtick.

They kinda need to see what they have in Myers as a top 4 guy. Braun is walking. Niskanen will be another year older and approaching the end of his contract.

It would have been nice to get the bumps out of the way in his D+4 season but here we are.
Any time over a year in the AHL is waste for future top 6 forwards and top 4 defensemen.

I’m hesitant to complain about it because it’s at least making a decision with some upside, but I have never liked the fit of a Sanheim-Myers pairing. Nothing I’ve seen in their ~20 Games together this year has made me reconsider this stance.

They've looked good to really damn good inside the bluline, keeping play alive. Not so much outside of that.

Perhaps AV is letting them work thru their defensive struggles cuz of the upside they bring in the ozone

Give Myers the easy Minutes with Provorov.

Provy-Myers
Sanheim-Niskanen
Gostisbehere-Braun

Yes, I know this isn't happening. I'm not even sure it would work, but it's the only way the pieces fit in my mind.

I don't think they've been good offensively as a pair either. They've flashed, but the overall effectiveness is lacking.

Myers bombs away from 55' entirely too much for my liking.

And no matter how you number them you better damn well pray the Pitlick-Laughton-NAK line don't ice the puck or say hello to the fresher of Sid or Gino. Sullivan is going to feast on the weakest line no matter who is on it if they ice the puck.

Very insightful. I would even go as far to say as having your 4th line caught out against a generational talent is a bad thing for every team in the league!

Maybe that's too bold though.
