Lacznyski is a wildcard, cause I think he really could step right in and play 12 minutes a night.

Time to start rooting for Ohio State to lose whenever possible.

I feel better about him after both Flaher and Fletcher said they're confident he'll sign. Another thing that makes me feel better...The one concern with Tanner was he could feel there's too many forward prospects to compete with for a spot. But if there's one thing Fletcher has shown this year is you're gonna get a shot as a young guy. There's been countless call ups and countless looks at the younger keys for the bottom 6. Tanner would absolutely get his shot here if he signs. Getting him would be huge though (imo) because I agree he can step right in. He's not some super young prospect, he's 22

Rumour is Byfuglien is going to be UFA this season after the jets buy him out.

would you look to bring him in on a 1 or 2 year deal.

wondering if he wants a chance at the cup. He signs for cheap.

he would be that presence we are lacking since pronger left. Could mentor kids. And we certainly wouldn’t be getting pushed around

I showed CF% because in LOTS of thos games, Myers has a WAY better result....like a 20% swing. That matters....well...except to you.

You made no comparison....except to say that Myers is not playing well and Hagg is playing the best hockey of his career.

How about this very straight forward question so no one can say you are saying one thing or another....when Ghost is healthy, who would you sit?
1. You’re still using Corsi by itself as if it proves quality of performance. You can put up a high Corsi & have a bad game. You can get the type of deployment that leads to a low Corsi but still have an effective game.

2. When Ghost is healthy I don’t know who I’d sit. There isn’t a black & white answer. It would depend on many factors, such as: Is the team winning? Is the team playing well? Is someone coming off a bad game? A good game? Is someone banged up? Is someone looking particularly good/bad in practice? I’m sure it would be a rotation of the bottom 3 based on these factors & more.

At the moment they are winning & playing well, so I’d probably keep the status quo. I feel like Myers has been an adventure lately, though, so I’d probably lean toward him being the first to sit out. That could change depending on how he & others play in the next game, though.

3. By the way, just a couple of weeks ago you forcememed Ghost’s 5 on 5 GA over a stretch as proof he was playing well.

Well Hagg has an even better 5 v 5 GA over a longer stretch.

Do you think that stat is probative of performance only when it applies to Ghost?

This guy is pretty plugged-in so I thought I’d share his thoughts on the Flyers TDL potential moves:

Not a fan of Forbort at all. Brodin intrigues me though. No idea what the Flyers would have to give up to get him.

This makes no sense to me.

Easily explained. Fletcher drafted Brodin while with the Wild and Forbort is from Duluth. :naughty:

I'm getting slow!

Brodin & Forbort seem like realistic names to inquire about.

They still could use more defensive reliability & consistency on the blueline. Niskanen & Braun were sorely needed & another steady type would be nice.

Brodin would be ideal. A deal for Brodin & Eriksson-Ek perhaps?

Forbort is a decent fallback option for depth, if he’s healthy. Cheap 900k contract that expires after the season.

Brodin, eh.

I wonder if any teams have "checked in" with us about Sanheim or Provorov.

His quotes are exactly the opposite of what you suggest... so that's positive.

...and Bergevin said he wasnt gonna trade Subban, and Poile said he wasnt going to fire Laviolette...

I'm being a touch facetious here, but I place VERY little faith in what a GM says and much more in what they do.

People were really liking his quotes before he signed Stewart too.

Fair enough. That was clearly a mistake, and to his credit, he did finally waive him. So there's that.

I really do believe he 'gets' it and is trying to build a sustainable team. Whether or not he succeeds is a different story, but I don't get the impression he's going to go out and make reckless moves.

Ohio State might be the most boring team to watch in College Hockey. Defense first, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, & 5th. Oy. I sure hope he signs because it'd make the years of watching this boring ass team worth it.

Quick trivia question (don’t cheat): Who leads the Flyers in PIM this season?

I don't expect him to trade a top prospect and a high draft pick for some old guy, but I also certainly don't trust his player evaluation skills or his ability to recognize what we actually need.

Especially after his stupid ass just went on about how he likes this PP setup so much better than the correct way.

done and done

*cough* ulterior motive *cough*

Does he look the same to you?

Because he sure doesn’t look the same to me. Particularly the last month or two.

His decline in production meets the eye test.

Fancy stats comprised of inexact, made-up formulas & inefficiently tracked data are not gospel, are not the final word, & don’t tell the whole story.

Right, we need your untrained eye test opinion as well. Only yours though. The rest of us arent capable of seeing what you can and need to refer to the professional scouts and coaches.

I understand this can be confusing to people but just remember.

If he is using it to support an argument Ghostbeers eye test is more valuable then yours and either aligns with or is more valuable then the coaches.

If you are using your eye test, stfu and listen to Alain since you dont know wtf you are talking about.

That being said please enlighten us about what exactly you are seeing in Giroux's game that is causing such a dramatic drop off?

Would anybody be surprised if the answer is "he looks slow" the ever present standard answer.

The savviest move Fletcher could make with this defense group isn't buying......it's selling high on Hagg, who is up for another RFA contract and should not be in the plans. A 2nd rounder, which I fully believe he'd net, goes a long way in either adding a quality prospect, or using it as a trade chip this offseason. We already have Friedman who is, without hesitation, better and cheaper. Bleh Bleh is on record saying he thinks Friedman deserves to be up in a vacuum. And with Ghost back in the lineup, neither would (should?) be playing. It's a totally lateral or better present move with future value win. Two birds, one stone. So, of course we can rule it out.

*****

As for Brodin, he's a strong defensive defenseman. He provides little value offensively, but he is certainly an excellent suppressor in large minutes. But he would be expensive to acquire with another year on his contract and having a big year by his standards. I'm not even sure Minnesota would want to trade him. Then we'd have to clear cap (obviously, Ghost would be a goner, though him to Minny doesn't make much sense) -- and best of all, we already have 2 LDs he shouldn't play above in Sanheim and Provorov, though Brodin has played the right side some in the past. I don't want them to re-sign Braun, and it wouldn't surprise me to see Fletcher hunt down another defense first RD this summer if he doesn't re-sign Braun, which I'm not ruling out. But while there's history with Brodin, the pieces just don't make sense. At least now.

They're really the Cleveland Browns.

At least the Browns and their fans aren't trapped in a past that glorifies Jim Brown and involves trying to build around a fullback. Meanwhile the Flyers are Meathead Mecca because of that time we were mean in the 70s and the organization strongly overvalues obsolete player traits.

If Hagg stays in I don't want to hear any white knights complaining about the coaches being called "stupid", "dumb", or "incompetent".
My theory is that anytime they look at him it triggers a mini stroke and that causes about a fifty second lapse in judgement. Going with it because nothing else makes sense.

Unless I am mistaken, no one on this board has ever posted that shot-based metrics tell the whole story.

People referring to shot-based metrics in their posts ≠ disregarding everything else

People referring to shot-based metrics in their posts = People referring to shot-based metrics in their posts
