Are MacLeish’s number any more impressive in an 18 team league? Playing the stacked teams in MTL, BOS, NY, BUF, TOR that many more times?

I think you can look at numbers some players put up that ring hollow (Abreau and Leberthal come to mind) but taking into consideration the number of game winning goals against top talent mitigates quite a bit of the era debate.

I didn’t read back because I have a deadline but I am not saying this at the detriment of Giroux. I think he is one the all time underrated players in this town because of the sport he plays and the team’s management.

That era... especially post expansion though... numbers actually went up because there were several teams who established teams would put 6-7 past a night on a regular basis.

MacLeish was great. I actually think he gets too little credit at times, especially when his best years and playoffs he was arguably better than Barber. But Giroux is a tier above.

Guess who have 4 Stanley Cups and Gold medal? This guy!

Yzerman never took a practice off,a game off and a shift off!
Third highest point total in a single NHL season other than #99 and #66...
Oops...threw out numbers!

Before those mid 90s Red Wings he was in fact accused of being a lazy choker and a soft player. Then better management gave him a team to work with.

A single player cannot will a team to victory. Even Gretzky couldn't do that in LA. Holding Giroux responsible for not singlehandedly fixing Homer and Hextall's errors is an absurd standard.

I know...I know...
Just stirring the pot!
I see Stevie play live about 50 times at the Joe back in the late 80’s...
In the top three players ever for me!

I’m confused what all this has to do with Ghost.

It will be four weeks and ten games missed after tonight. Hopefully he'll be raring to go against the Devils. And they could have put him on LTIR.

NHL.com Stats

Provorov only has 1 ESP in those past nine games, and for the season he's only at 12.

The 70’s were TOO violent of an era for Giroux! Different hockey!

Media and fans paintbrush player with statistics from analytics... but the stat that everyone who has ever a Stanley Cup cares about is...WINNING!
Take say:Wayne Gretzky (Winner)
:Mario Lemieux (Winner)
: Bryan Trottier (Winner)
:Henri Richard (Winner)
:Joe Nieuwendyk (Winner)
:Steve Yzerman ( Winner)
:Joe Sakic (Winner)
And... :Sidney Crosby (Winner and a Winer)
Nothing else mattered!

Phil housley, pavel buress, mike Gartner all say hi, among MULTIPLE others.

He's not pushing Clarke or MacLeish off of the center spot. He also wouldn't push Barber, Leach, Dornhoefer or Lonsberry off of a wing.
He's definitely not pushing Clarke or Macleish out of their spots, but, as much as I love Roscoe, he'd absolutely push him off the 2nd line. A line of Giroux-Macleish-Dorny would have really been something to see.

Kunitz is equally as good as Gretzky because they have the same amount of Cup wins.

All you nerds shut up with your stats and analytics.

Here's the thing with Canada Olympic teams. It's a very political thing. I wouldn't be shocked that they ask Sid, Kunitz or Giroux and Sid wanted his teammate.

Top quality players finish with top quality results. Playing behind Crosby never slowed Malkin down, for example. If MacLeish is really in that tier, it shouldn't have had too much impact on him either. After all, he was playing with lots of talent still. Per some people here, he was playing with two guys better than Claude Giroux, so one would expect him to be finishing high relative to the league.

Giroux has done better relative to the league than MacLeish did.
MacLeish & Giroux are both Flyers greats.

MacLeish happens to have two legendary playoff performances that were instrumental in two Stanley Cups, & that gives him the nod in all-time Flyers rankings in my book.

I’m not begrudging those who list Giroux ahead of him. What I disagree with is the stance that there’s no justification for choosing MacLeish.

Well, I don't think it's Giroux's fault that Homer and Hextall couldn't build teams to put Giroux in a similar position.

Truly great players lead their teams to cup wins, regardless of quality of teammates or coaching.

That's why people like Giroux and McDavid are actually a trash players/leaders. Ovi too, until recently.

If Giroux was good enough to win a Cup, he'd have done so already.

I’m confused what all this has to do with Ghost.

The only way for Giroux to become a true Flyers legend like Brayden Schenn is to trade him away so he can win a Cup. To stay on topic, I’d package him with Ghost. Probably for Benn.

When you're successful and this comes back to Ghost, I'll be the one blamed for it.

smh my head

I'm assuming you mean Jordie, because theres no way that Giroux and Ghost gets you a player like Jamie! Star players dont get moved for spare parts.

JVR has actually been getting tons of scoring opportunities, & hasn’t been loafing defensively.

He’s frustrating when he’s not converting, I get it. But I may be one of the rare few who’s not unhappy with his roster spot right now.

You aren’t going to replace him with someone better. He’s getting to the right places. I think he’s going to score some big goals.

This and death and taxes

Apparently Jets and Buff are working toward mutual contract termination. Big Buff can finally come to Philly! Especially after we trade Ghost
