So here is a weird rumor regarding us. It turns out we had a possible trade for Quick on the table at the deadline that might be revisited this summer. Rumor is that Columbus was once again interested in acquiring JQ but we couldn't come to terms over a price. JQ was on board and Blake was close but it just couldn't get done. That is a weirdo rumor but one that has been discussed a bunch lately around the scouting world. For what it is worth.

There's no compelling reason to trade Quick. His cap hit is a non-issue and Petersen should not be thrown into the #1 role prematurely.

If Quick wants it then you do it. He is still at a level where he can help a competing team rather than wasting his last remaining effective years getting peppered without any real upside other than comfort on being with a team he knows.

where did this rumor generate ?

I would be fine with Quick moving on to another team. Petersen is capable and needs to play. Sign a veteran backup and move forward.

I agree, but no need for the King’s to pay to trade Quick. I feel the same about Carter, if you can get assets great, but with the current cap. King’s have no reason to pay another team to take, either through assets or retention.

Retention I am okay with, additional assets, is a no for me.

You assume Quick wants to mentor? Guys his age probably still want to start.
I said he can mentor unless he requested a trade. If he wants to stay he knows the role.If he wants to move on, they can try to find a suitor.

Quick is the best option for both Seattle and the Kings, you keep him around until the expansion draft, he will be in the top 3 exposed G

Columbus had to get insane levels of goaltending for a few months to be where they were. Levels like Quick in the 2012 playoffs. Quick himself has never gotten back to that level.

The problem with Quick isn't the cap hit, it's the term. Even at 50%, that's having to account for an aging goalie for 3 more years. We've seen where he can take an average team. Any ready made contender likely doesn't need trade for a 34/35 year old goalie. Even if he wanted out, I'm not sure there's a huge market. Had it been a 7 or 8 year deal, it would've been a lot easier to trade him.

Term, term, term. It's only good for young guys. And even then, they might get too comfortable until their UFA year when they'll be too good to trade, and then screw whatever team ends up signing them.
