I think hoping for a Voynov replacement in LaDue wasn't overrating him. If I recall, he showed promise his first go around with the Kings. What happened to cause him to become "stale" is a shame but you're right....time to move on.

I think the biggest things were that we were short on RHD, and thought his skillset was worth an extended look before dumpstering him. He was getting jerked in and out of the lineup for a while there which was stupid because he was scoring goals at a crazy good rate. I remmber a stretch when he couldn't get more than 2 games in a row for like 3 straight months, so a few of us were just clamoring for him to get stable time...but he's definitely stagnated and he ain't passing Roy and Walker anytime soon so unless one of those guys gets hurt he's probably toast.

Looks like we need to trade for Caufield!

Excited for Clague to get a look. I'm sure he'll be running on adrenaline too. I expect this to look like Martinez's first callup, and hopefully it's similarly good for his growth--sees how different the game is at this level and why it's so important for him to look after his zone. The plus is his elite skating and he's another guy with some great offensive IQ that could make things interesting, the minus is he makes Joakim Ryan look like Rod Langway.

Clague has been looking strong offensively the last month, and is 2nd in the AHL in goal scoring by a D man. So I'm happy for him that he's getting a look, but I can't help but worry that the two flaws that still consistently pop up in his game, dangerous turnovers and late reads on the transition, while show up once more. He really has a nice shot when he takes the puck to the middle of the ice from the right point on the PP.

Looks like Super Nanny Drew will get a new partner

@Ziggy Stardust what position do the kings need most from a prospect standpoint?
tyler toffoli seems like a good fit for boston. figure a 2nd and solid prospect gets it done,
although i'm sure you guys are holding out hope to get a 1st.

My guess would be a conditional 2nd that could become a 1st depending on Boston’s success or ability to re-sign Toffoli, and a prospect who may be ready to compete in the NHL like a Peter Cehlarik or Anders Bjork may be the most realistic options for the Kings with regards to a return for Toffoli. I don’t think they’ll get a prospect like Studnicka, though it would be nice to obtain someone like Trent Frederic.

I’d take a 2nd and a solid prospect in a heartbeat, if we could get a conditional 1st I’d be delighted.

man would that be amazing

While it would be amazing, it would take something like Vilardi or our first pick (and maybe something else). Too rich for my blood. I’ll be satisfied with 2/3s of the top line.
I would absolutely do Vilardi for Caufield.

Heck may even do Vilardi + Martinez for Caufield + 2nd

Neither would I. While Caufield might put up 30-40 goals, it doesn’t match the value of a potential 1a or1b center who could be dominant. We’re still talking potential here. Caufield might go off for 50G and GV could be a bust, but right now, I like Gabe’s potential.

Given where Caufiled was drafted i think the chance of him busting is lower than where LA was lucky enough to get Gabe. I think the injury history and draft pedigree lean me to Caufield.

LA has a lot of centers in the system and will still hopefully have a contributing Kopitar in 2-3 years.

Edit: not saying it is an auto home run but it would make sense to me. Also makes sense not doing it for reasons you have laid out.

Vilardi's the only one that projects as a top-six C very clearly.

I was half joking, Caufield would be a luxury, and one we already have a possibly-lite version of in Kaliyev.

I would have agreed about 10 days ago, lol... but looks like playing with Amadio(who saw that coming lol) has opened up his scoring.... If he continues scoring,:"IF", he will net us either a 1st or a top-ish prospect.. Just think of what he could/would do on a Boston, Carolina, Islanders, Buffalo or Oilers.. Maybe even the Penguins... And, he's likely to sign quickly rather than risk UFA considering his last few seasons..

I've definitely been one of the few on here that still thinks Toffoli is a good player. Doesn't mean I want the Kings to sign him long term but I've been adamant they should hold him until the TDL this year because he could definitely be on a 20 goal pace.

Well here we are. 20 goal pace and nearly a 50 point pace. Still very responsible in his own end. He's a guy that should be able to slide in to a 2nd line spot or on to a good 3rd line for a contender. If he keeps it up, a late 1st could very much be in the cards.

The guy loves it here. Would he be willing to take less to be here? He could always come back after being traded. I know most on here want to run him out of town but do you take him in the off-chance he takes a discount?

Toffoli - Amadio - Prokhorkin looked really good last game and hoping they keep that together and they get 15 minutes. I would make that the second PP unit up front too. Toffoli could be around
17-20 goals by the deadline and get a good return at the deadline. A year ago, this was not looking like a possibility.

I mean sure.

Ideal world he gets traded for a premium then signs here as a UFA for a 2 year team friendly cap hit.

Unlikely but sign me up

I wonder if Vancouver could be in on Toffoli. They have chemistry with Pearson and management has been given the mandate to push for playoffs. Now they have fallen back a bit but still.

I have always been big on Juolevi but I think his stalk has fallen, and Vancouver does not have their first. So I really do not know what to expect as a return. At the end of the day I would rather LA try and get Vancouver's first from Tampa.
