Kovy is officially gone.

Pierre LeBrun reporting it.

Basically saying that IK is leaving the Kings. He received his big payment of the 15th and will now leave the Kings being "in breach of his contract, leading to a termination"

IK is now a FA.

LAK will not have to pay the remaining $700k this season or the $4.25 due next season.

I'm liking the setup of the lines right now....Amadio has been playing much better imo, nothing stand out, but just...solid....everyone's gonna crucify me on this one, but if they can't get a first for Toffoli, AND he's willing to sign a 1-2 year deal, re-sign him, he's playing much better with a new coach, the 1-2 year deal doesn't handcuff, and he either plays well enough to improve his trade value, OR, he's a filler until the younger guys are ready to step up....

I think a first is a fairly safe bet if he contines at this pace. If not, I don't think he'll bite on a 1-2 year contract. Toffoli would be taking a huge risk and you don't get many opportunities to sign long term contracts unless you're in that elite class of players.

If..."IF", he's resigned to a 2 year deal.. it has to be with the expectation his performance continues and we can move him for a much better package since he wouldn't be a UFA.. and would still be young-ish at 28YO

What a signing. Roenick-caliber.

I will say that it's a good move to move on now. Team is better and, good guy or not, his presence is not needed around the young guys. The young guys need to take ownership of this team and removing the opportunity to defer to a guy like Kovy is good for them.

Definitely Roenick-tier. Good comparison.

He likely just goes back to Russia, right? I don't see him reporting to any team who picks him up on the waiver wire. If he still wanted to play in the NHL, surely there was a trade to be had somewhere? Maybe I'm wrong.

IK leaving also removes his $4.25 in 2020-21. That's a nice chunk to help attract/add a decent Dman.

Moving forward I think they should consider signing Prohkorkin to a multi year. I think he's looking like an NHL player that can contribute.

Real dollars: not cap.

But yes: Bowlby is saving AEG some money. I don't see him getting to spend all of that in a new toy for next season, however.

Agreed, it's a fine line to walk....you don't want to handcuff yourself.....but I don't know if you want to take anything less than a 1st either...

Of course, at this point, he's a filler player, he's not a staple of the team ala Brown, Clifford etc, he's a filler until JAD, Kumpari, Turcotte, can stick in the league etc...but like the other poster said, him agreeing to a 1-2 year deal is gonna be a tough sell.
